We didn't even know we needed this, but as soon as it was announced, we started counting down the days for Spartacus: House of Ashur. The new series will bring back all the elements that made the original 2010 Spartacus series a hit, albeit in a slightly alternate universe in which famous traitor Ashur (Nick Tarabay) survived his execution. The series premieres this fall, and today at Sdcc, attendees finally had the chance to check out the full trailer for the upcoming series.
The trailer for Spartacus: House of Ashurfeatures all we expect to see when the series premieres. Tensions rising in the heat of Rome, blood getting spattered here and there, alliances getting formed and dismantled, gladiators with rocking bodies and, of course, a bit of sex for good measure. In this segment of the franchise, Ashur not only was not killed in the middle of the slave rebellion, but...

During its original run on Starz, Spartacus was known (among other things) for its highly stylized action sequences and copious spillage of blood. With the franchise set return more than a decade after it last aired, those things don’t appear to have changed much.
Starz unveiled a trailer for its forthcoming series Spartacus: House of Ashur Saturday at Comic-Con in San Diego, and both hallmarks are present in the clip. The trailer greatly expands on a brief teaser released in January, delving more into Ashur’s (Nick E. Tarabay) place in society now that he runs a gladiator school and spending more time with its fighters, including a rare woman among the ranks, Achillia (Tenika Davis). Watch it below.
Ashur died in the finale of 2012’s Spartacus: Vengeance, so the new series presents an alternate history in which he didn’t. Here’s how Starz describes the show: “What if he lived,...

The dream of every gladiator when he or she steps onto the sands of an arena is victory, and an opportunity to rise to the very top as champion. Over a decade since it aired, but Starz's epic series, Spartacus, is still dominating the streaming charts, much like the gladiators within did. The original series ran from 2010 to 2013, returning audiences to the gladiator world and Ancient Rome. Thankfully, the long-awaited sequel series, Spartacus: House of Ashur, will premiere this fall, and is we near its premiere, interest in the original series continues to grow. According to data sourced from FlixPatrol, the blood-soaked Spartacus series is the number one television series streaming on Starz right now. While Power and its spin-offs occupy positions in the lower half of the Top 10, the Top 5 is completed by Three Women, Sweetpea, Outlander, and Bmf. The gladiatorial series' performance is even more impressive when...

The new Spartacus series, House of Ashur, is coming to Starz this fall, and creator Steven S. DeKnight is ready to tell a different story. DeKnight told Entertainment Weekly that the original Spartacus show was a big challenge for him.
He said, “I think I needed a decade to recuperate from the original experience, which was wonderful, but just grueling and emotionally gut wrenching.” The death of Andy Whitfield, the first actor to play Spartacus, made it even harder.
For years, Starz asked DeKnight to come back and make more Spartacus, but he wasn’t ready. When he finally felt up to it, he thought about new ideas. He considered famous Roman stories like Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra but found them expensive and overdone. Instead, he chose to focus on a less-known character from the original show — Ashur.

The new Spartacus series, House of Ashur, is finally coming to Starz this fall, and creator Steven S. DeKnight is ready to tell a fresh story. DeKnight shared with Entertainment Weekly that the original Spartacus show left a big mark on him.
After the tough experience of making the first series, and the heartbreaking loss of Andy Whitfield, who played Spartacus and died from cancer, DeKnight needed time to recover. He explained, “I think I needed a decade to recuperate from the original experience, which was wonderful, but just grueling and emotionally gut wrenching.”
For years, Starz kept asking DeKnight if he wanted to return to the Spartacus world, but he kept saying no because it was too hard. Then, finally, he felt ready. He began thinking about new ideas but realized many famous Roman stories had been told many times and were very expensive to make.

When it was announced that Spartacus was returning with a new sequel series, fans were surprised by some things about the announcement. The biggest one was that the new series would follow Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay), a character who met a pretty much irreversible end in Spartacus: Vengeance. However, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight explained that Spartacus: House of Ashur takes place in an alternate reality. During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series creator revealed what other characters are going to return for the new series.
During the interview, DeKnight revealed that Starz wanted to do a Spartacus follow-up for years, but a number of events got in the way. He mentioned the premature death of Andy Whitfield, who was the title character in the debut season — he was replaced by Liam McIntyre (Bring Him To Me). The showrunner revealed that Whitfield's death "took the wind out of everybody's sails,...

It's been twelve years since the rebellion led by Spartacus (Andy Whitfield/Liam McIntyre) came to a crushing end in Spartacus: War of the Damned. Now, we are finally returning to the gladiator world with an unexpected figure in the lead. Spartacus: House of Ashur is finally nearing its premiere, and in order to tease the upcoming epic series, EW unveiled a slate of first-look images that showcase the new warrior, the very first female gladiator, and the return of Ashur (Nick Tarabay) as lead. The series is set to premiere on Starz this fall.
The images reveal Ashur like we've never seen him. While on Spartacus, he was a sly figure who relied on tricks and manipulation to get his way; now he is the commander of the Ludus and has a slate of gladiators training under him. The story is set in an alternate reality in which Ashur wasn't brutally killed,...

Actress Lucy Lawless, memorable as the decadent “Lucretia’ in the original “Spartacus” TV series, returns to guest star in the upcoming “Spartacus: House of Ashur" TV series, currently shooting in New Zealand, starring Nick Tarabay, reprising his “Spartacus: Vengeance” role as the conniving gladiator 'Ashur’, with Tenika Davis as ‘Achillia’, Jamaica Vaughan as ‘Hilara’, Ivana Baquero as ‘Messia’, Leigh Gill as ‘Satyrus’, Jordi Webber as Tarchon’, India Shaw-Smith as ‘Viridia’ and Claudia Black as ‘Cossutia’, airing in 2025 on Starz:
"...'Spartacus: House of Ashur' will be a history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience…
‘…that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit.
"The series poses the question: what if 'Ashur', played by fan favorite Nick Tarabay, hadn't died on 'Mount Vesuvius' at the end of 'Spartacus: Vengeance'?
“This will be accomplished by a recreation of his original death scene. But this time he won’t die.
