Exclusive: Following the conclusion of its 2025 flagship festival in Montréal, Just For Laughs has announced the winners of its inaugural Shorts & Pilots Program, recognizing emerging comedic talent and original storytelling across short and pilot formats.

The Grand Jury Prize for Shorts was awarded to Better People, directed by Rory Kramer and written by Jessica Uhler, with the Audience Award going to This Blows, written by Molly Clark and directed by Talia Smith.

In the Pilots category, the Grand Jury Prize went to Bulldozer, written by and starring Joanna Leeds, and directed by Andrew Leeds. The Audience Award was given to The Take, written by Joanna Bradley and Glenn Boozan.

If you’ve never heard of Peacock's Twisted Metal, it’s an action series with humor similar to that of Deadpool. Yeah, there were times I laughed at something which probably shouldn’t be funny, yet it still was. Season 1 introduced us to the post-apocalyptic world and gave us the main characters’ introductions and some backstories.

John Doe (Anthony Mackie) is the protagonist who works as a type of courier called a Milk Man. He meets up with a woman he names Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), and they work their way across treacherous terrain to deliver a package. His payment for this is to be given residence inside the protected New San Francisco (Nsf). Unfortunately, when he earns passage, she’s denied entry.

Another character, though I wouldn’t particularly call him a protagonist, is a killer clown named Sweet Tooth. This character is played by Joe Seanoa, who is a professional wrestler.

Acorn TV’s fan-favorite period detective drama, Murdoch Mysteries, returns Monday, February 10 in the U.S. with new Season 18 episodes dropping weekly on Mondays.

Set in Toronto in the early 1900s during the age of invention, Detective William Murdoch uses radical forensic techniques to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders.

Fingernails is a sci-fi romance that explores the concept of using a controversial technology to prove true love between partners. A new season of the television anthology series Slasher – season 5, to be exact, which is also going by the title Slasher: Ripper – is set to premiere on the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services on April 6th. With that date now less than a month away, a trailer for the season has arrived online and you can check it out in the embed above. Poster art for Slasher: Ripper has also been unveiled, and you can take a look at that at the bottom of this article.

Slasher is a show that started out on the now-defunct network Chiller, then moved to Netflix for the second and third seasons, and then jumped over to Shudder for the fourth season (which happened to have genre icon David Cronenberg as a cast member). Due to production delays of its regular shows, CBS has decided to air the first season Star Trek: Discovery on broadcast television. Only two characters have felt completely “on” in American Gods Season 2. Laura Moon is one. The other is her frequent scene partner, Mad Sweeney. I've praised their scenes together this season as some of the better ones thus far, and that praise continues when they're separated from one another, too.

The rest of the ensemble may seem a bit groundless, but Mad Sweeney continues to be the anchor of the second season, keeping American Gods from going adrift in stormy seas. Thankfully, he gets his own episode, highlighting his journey not to America, but how a quasi-mythological king in Ireland became a giant, fist-fighting leprechaun, tracking the various versions and transmutations of the Mad Sweeney myth before settling on the version that best fits American Gods.

We’ve got a great new featurette for you to watch today for Star Trek: Discovery that focuses on what we can expect to see in the story for season two. CBS All Access has released a thrillingly awesome new trailer for Star Trek: Discovery season two in which we see Spock join the fight for the future. The trailer also teases the big threat of new deadly villain known as the Red Angel who has the power to end all life in the galaxy.

There is nothing more frustrating than getting into a really good series, only for there to be a break halfway through and you have to wait weeks before you can indulge in part 2. CBS has released a new featurette for Star Trek: Discovery that puts the focus on composer Jeff Russo and the score that he created for the opening title sequence of the series. It shows him working with a 60-piece orchestra and we get to hear the score that he came up with. It's actually really good and it wonderfully blends the original musical cue with the new theme. For “Trek” fans who have been waiting eagerly to get a sense of how “Star Trek: Discovery” will emulate the series that have come before, the below behind-the-scenes clip should make it clear that the past is very much a part of the present.

As composer Jeff Russo explains, the original theme for the series is incorporated into the new music at both the beginning and end, a tribute to Alexander Courage’s iconic work. “It’s built into the DNA of the show,” as executive producer Alex Kurtzman explains. Russo conducts a 60-piece orchestra in the below video, in an era when live performers for a soundtrack are considered a bit of a luxury.

It’s when Nielsen still resets the calendar for the new TV year; when blue chip advertisers like the automotive sector roll out their own new wares; football season returns (don’t discount that huge impact on TV schedules); and the weather gets chilly, which conceivably means more viewers watching TV indoors.

The mission of Starfleet is made crystal clear in today’s tantalizing new promo for Star Trek: Discovery, the CBS All Access series set to light up the small screen in little under a month’s time.

Released via Instagram, the all-too-brief teaser places First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) front and center, before relaying the core values of Star Trek: tolerance, freedom and justice. However, true to the old saying that if you want peace, prepare for war, much of Discovery‘s opening season will revolve around Starfleet’s war against the Klingon Empire, which will surely spill over into season 2 – providing CBS issues the green light on a renewal.

CBS All Access has released the Comic-Con trailer for Star Trek: Discovery and it's the best and most intense trailer that I've seen for the series yet! The show takes place in a time when there is a conflict between Starfleet and Klingons, who are rising up to prove their power in the galaxy. we get our best look at this story in this trailer, which also features some pretty cool looking action sequences.

The series has such a cinematic feel to it and it looks like nothing we've really seen before from the Star Trek franchise and I like that about it. It looks like CBS actually has a great Star Trek series on their hands. The big question remains... will people pay for another streaming subscription service to watch it?

As a fan of Doug Jones, one of the things I'm looking forward to most about Star Trek: Discovery is seeing him play this new alien character. Until now, we really didn't know much about who he's playing, but thanks to EW, we have some intriguing new information to share with you. What we have known is that Jones plays a character named Lt. Saru and he is the Starfleet Science Officer. He's described as being the "Spock" of the series.

We managed to get a little tease of the character in the trailer that was released and according to showrunner Aaron Harberts, he has the power of sensing death! That's got to be one of the most depressing powers ever!

As the biggest event on the industry’s calendar begins to draw near, CBS has unveiled its Comic-Con plans for Star Trek: Discovery, the long-brewing TV series that is now on course for a premiere on Sunday, September 24th. Set some 10 years before the rip-roaring adventures of Spock and Kirk, Discovery is a tale that grew in the telling, and it’s understood the Powers That Be over at CBS have decided to split their bold sci-fi series into two distinct parts, with the first stretching for eight episodes in total. The remaining seven episodes will then light up the small screen in January of 2018.

The transporter rooms in the upcoming series Star Trek: Discovery look very different from any of the transporter rooms that we've seen in the franchise in the past. This photo features one of the transporter rooms on a starship and it features Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) preparing to beam down somewhere and it looks like they are suited up for some possible action. They are sporting some kind of body armor and their phasers are at their side and ready to go. In the foreground on the left, we see the back of Lt. Saru, who is an alien character played by Doug Jones.

According to EW, "This particular transporter bay is aboard the U.S.S. Shenzhou and it’s unlike any that Trek fans have ever seen before." The Shenzhou is an older ship. I actually really dig the design because it has a very retro type feel to it. The report also says that the "U.S.S. Discovery is very different from this one" but it has yet to be officially revealed. We did get a glimpse of the bridge of the Discovery in a recent photo featuring Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca. Federation Starship Captain Gabriel Lorca oversees the Flight Deck in the latest action shot for CBS’ small-screen revival, Star Trek: Discovery.

Played by former Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs, the image below hails from Entertainment Weekly and offers an early glimpse into the bridge of the Discovery itself – remember, the space vessel shown in the show’s blistering first trailer was not, in fact, the USS Discovery, but rather a different ship that is expected to feature in Discovery‘s pilot episode. Set to span for 15 episodes in total – up from the original plan of 13 – Star Trek: Discovery is set to toy with expectations by placing the emphasis not on the ship’s captain, but his Starfleet First Officer Michael Burnham, played here by Sonequa Martin-Green of The Walking Dead fame.

Meanwhile, EW also offered up new intel on Lorca himself, describing Isaacs’ pioneer as “a steely Federation Starship Captain who’s considered a brilliant military tactician.”

He’ll be at the forefront of an adventure set some 10 years before the events of Kirk and Spock, and while series producer Alex Kurtzman (The Mummy) has been busy teasing the possibility of big-name cameos, we know Discovery‘s ensemble cast has already recruited the likes of Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, Shaza Latif, Clare McConnell, Kenneth Mitchell, Maulik Pancholy, Anthony Rapp, Damon Runyan, and Terry Serpico.

Twice delayed and subsequently split in two, Star Trek: Discovery has finally settled on a premiere date: Sunday, September 24th. The first half of CBS’ sci-fi reboot will run for eight episodes in total, before the final seven installments bring the curtain down on Discovery‘s inaugural season in January of 2018. UK viewers can expect Discovery to stream via Netflix beginning September 25th, one day after its premiere in the States.

CBS All Access has confirmed that Star Trek: Discovery will premiere on Sunday, September, 24th. They even released a motion poster making the announcement, which you can check out below. It features the U.S.S. Discovery - Ncc-1031 taking flight.

It was also revealed by Deadline that the 15-episode first season will be split into two. They say the first eight episodes will air on Sundays from September 24th through November 5th. The season then will resume with the second part of the season in January 2018.

After that first trailer was released, I got pretty excited about the series. I just hate that I have to subscribe to CBS All Access to watch it. I'll watch the first episode and if it doesn't blow me away, they aren't getting my money.

“Star Trek: Discovery” has been beset by a number of delays throughout its development and production, but at long last, we now know when the series will premiere.

CBS announced that the latest entry into the “Star Trek” franchise will debut on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 8:30 p.m. Et on CBS (time approximate after NFL football and “60 Minutes”) and its streaming service CBS All Access. The second episode will then immediately be available on-demand on CBS All Access.

The show’s 15 episodes will roll out on CBS All Access in two waves: The first eight episodes will roll out weekly on Sundays through early Nov. 5. At that point, the show will go on hiatus and then resume with the remaining seven episodes in January.

We’ve known what the Discovery will look like since last year’s Comic-Con and we even got a glimpse of filming when the show finally went into production last January. What we haven’t known until now is what the series itself might be like. CBS has released the first official photo from their upcoming new series Star Trek: Discovery. It features Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham and Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou. It looks like they are exploring a strange new world.

Without the look of the Star Trek uniforms, the image almost looks like it could be from a Star Wars movie. I'm surprised the first look didn't feature the characters in uniform on the bridge of their ship to give the first look of the series a more Star Trek vibe.

EW points out that First Officer Michael Burnham has what looks like an old-school communicator similar to those featured on the original Star Trek series on her belt. She also has a satchel that looks like it’s holding one of the classic Tricorders.

Programmers at the Park City jamboree’s upcoming 23rd edition announced on Monday the 11 narrative and eight documentary selections that will play in January.

The 2017 showcase will also feature Dig (Digital, Interactive & Gaming), a platform of eight works by emerging artists working in cutting-edge digital media, while Polytechnic is a series of free workshops exploring disruptive perspectives on filmmaking from industry insiders.

“As filmmakers themselves, the Slamdance programmers and staff share the same creative spirit as the festival artists,” said Slamdance co-founder and president, Peter Baxter. “Our stories are different but our divergent attitude is the same.

“Together, we give a voice to Diy filmmaking. Empowering emerging artists is what we do, and you are about to see a great group at Slamdance 2017.”

The feature competition roster includes 16 premieres – 12 world, 3 North American and one Us. All competition films are feature directorial debuts with budgets of under $1m and without Us distribution.
