The spawn of Satan raises hell at a Scottish nunnery in this retro-styled British fright fest
This cheap-as-chips British horror concerning demented nuns is risible in the extreme, but there’s something about its willingness to commit to the bit that’s sort of admirable. Plus, there’s a faintly amusing retro vibe that harks back not just to low-budget 1970s horror of yore, but also to the so-called “quota quickies” from the 1930s onwards, British film fare made by the yard.
Set during the second world war on an island off the coast of Scotland, the film takes place almost entirely within the confines of a nunnery called St Augustine’s. That said, there’s an opening sequence where a nun is pursued by a wolf outside, a beast so happy to be playing with the actor his tail is up and wagging the whole time – he looks about as menacing as a cockapoo.

From the team behind Flickering Myth comes the gothic horror film The Baby In The Basket. First look and more details below.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: 2024 has been a proper rollercoaster ride for horror fans. After a slow start, we’ve since been treated to the excellent Immaculate and The First Omen and the riotously fun Abigail and we’re not too far off from the release of Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1.
We’ve now got word of another horror film heading our way, hopefully sooner rather than later. The Baby In The Basket is directed by Nathan Shepka and Andy Crane from a script by Tom Jolliffe.

Burnt Flowers, the new film from writer/director Michael Fausti, begins with a series of scenes swiftly moving back and forth between London’s Rose Bar in 1968, Islington in 1983 and the Islington Police Station in 1992.
The last location is where Detective Franc Alban has a visitor, Alice Kyteller. She’s there to report a missing person, her husband Austin whom she last saw eight years ago in a brothel. Why has she waited so long to report him missing? “I thought he might come back”. She can’t offer any information and hasn’t so much as asked his friends about him, but she is sure that she and Detective Alban have met before.
If all of this sounds strange, you haven’t seen anything yet. The director...

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey dominated the Razzie Awards, winning Worst Picture, Director, and Screenplay for Rhys Frake-Waterfield. The sequel's trailer promises more low-budget gore, banking on the popularity of the horror retelling of the classic children's tale. Other notable “winners” included Stallone and Fox in The Expend4bles, with Fran Drescher receiving the Razzie Redeemer Award.
It literally was a Pooh year at the 44th Razzie Awards, with slasher movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey taking home five of the dubious honors on offer. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey defies expectations with its slasher take on the beloved bear, and the lack of legal action from Disney is surprising. The film's ability to avoid legal repercussions is a testament to its position in the film landscape and the careful navigation of copyright laws by the crew. The existence of the film opens doors for future filmmakers to explore unconventional retellings of iconic characters as they inch closer to the public domain.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey delivered a strong gross against its micro-budget in 2023, but its review score was nothing short of dismal. However, filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield is not particularly phased by the slamming his horror take on the honey-loving bear took on Rotten Tomatoes. Speaking in the new edition of SFX Magazine, the director addressed terrible reviews of the movie and how he believes many of them came from critics unfairly comparing his film to big blockbusters.

UK indie horror icon Ayvianna Snow returns to the screen with three new films for the first quarter 2024.
Cult director Michael Fausti’s much anticipated second feature film, Burnt Flowers (premieres January 2024), sees Ayvianna Snow join fellow horror luminaries Dani Thompson and Laurence R. Harvey in this haunting and surreal Horror-Noir from one of the UK’s most original horror directors.
Burnt Flowers focuses upon a mysterious femme fatale, Alice Kyteller (Ayvianna Snow), who approaches Detective Francis Alban (Amber Doig-Thorne) to search for her missing husband. The detective’s search leads her to a 1960s serial killer, who was never caught, a violent gangster and ultimately… herself.
The film stars Ayvianna Snow in a commanding central performance in a role that recalls the shape-shifting femme fatales of classic film noir. Snow’s portrayal of Alice Kyteller leads the audience into the dark past of the 1960s criminal underworld and an obsessive,...

The state of horror in 2023 is strong. Familiar names such as Brandon Cronenberg and Eli Roth returned with "Infinity Pool" and "Thanksgiving" and so did "Re-Animator" screenwriter Dennis Paoli, writer of "Suitable Flesh," his first realized feature script in over 20 years. Old franchises returned, too, with "Evil Dead Rise" and even "Saw X" doing well critically and commercially. Less established filmmakers have also made an impression, namely Nahnatchka Khan, director of "Totally Killer," and Danish debut filmmaker Gabriel Bier Gislason, who helmed "Attachment."
But away from "M3GAN," "When Evil Lurks" and the numerous other highlights, there were still some disappointments that were lackluster, recycled, underplayed, overplayed, or in one or two cases, just underwhelming in almost every aspect of production. There is little pleasure to be had in chronicling such disappointment, but it is a service any critic must provide at one time or another. So let's dig into some...

What’s that? Sarah T. Cohen, Amber Doig-Thorne And May Kelly all starring together in another Scott Jeffrey production? Ok, Ok, so it’s a film written by Craig McLearie, who hasn’t exactly captured the magic of 2021’s Jagged Edge/Proportion Productions era with his scripts, but one can but hope right?
Let’s get this out of the way first, Alien Invasion is Such an on-the-nose title. Like seriously, you couldn’t have come up with something a little more subtle? But then when your production company has made films with titles like Snake Hotel...

In the blissful infancy of YouTube back in 2006, one of the medium's earliest viral sensations was a video called "Scary Mary." YouTube creator Christopher Rule edited his own trailer for "Mary Poppins," Disney's 1964 musical classic. Instead of depicting the movie's family-friendly fantasy, though, Rule cut "Scary Mary" as a horror film. The result was surprisingly convincing, and posited an intriguing, funny, and somewhat disturbing thesis: With a change in perspective, beloved fictional characters can instantly switch from kind to creepy.
The team behind "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey" — a real movie in the Year of Our Lord, 2023 — embraced this spirit to imagine the universally adored Pooh Bear of literature and film as a serial killer. The film's violent conclusion leaves its story open-ended, and its filmmakers are just getting started building a children's-character-turned-slasher cinematic universe straight out of a fever dream.

This taut and tense thriller starts with a shocking, bloody prologue and doesn’t let up for ninety minutes. In fact, Blood and Honey 2 has already scored several international sales deals, including in Mexico, Germany, Italy, France, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and India.

Yes folks you read that title right…Nerdly has joined British Gothic Horror The Baby in the Basket, which stars Amber Doig-Thorne (Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey), teaming with Shepka Productions and Flickering Myth on the production.
Some years back our Managing Editor Phil put together a project called Nerdly Presents. This was with the intention of getting more involved with our industry in a production and distribution capacity. The brand got off to an “interesting” start with Nerdly Presents’ first release, director James Cullen Bressack’s Hate Crime, getting banned by the BBFC! That was swiftly followed up with the VOD release of To Jennifer, another Bressack film, via the now-defunct UK-based TheHorrorShow.TV streaming service.

Amber Doing-Thorne leads the pack in Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey
Amber Doig-Thorne is a hard working actor with a lot to say. There’s an energy about her which comes across as much in conversation as it does on the silver screen. She’s interested in everything and keen to get stuck in, the sort of person who is a gift to a busy production unit but at perpetual risk of taking on so much that she never has a moment to herself, something which, in the course of our conversation, she admits to having done for six months of last year. We’re meeting to talk about her latest horror film, Glasgow Frightfest selection Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey, so I begin by asking her if she was a fan of the denizens of Hundred Acre Wood as a child.
