My Adventures with Superman Creators Confirm Sneaky Way They Got Lex Luthor in the Show
Image
My Adventures of Superman creators discuss bringing Lex Luthor into the series. They also admit that he wasn't always a part of the plan.

Speaking to CinemaBlend, creators and producers Josei Campbell, Jake Wyatt, and Brendan Clogher opened up about the direction that the series' villains have taken, specifically Lex Luthor, as well as how the classic Superman villain ended up in the show in the first place. As Wyatt explained, "Brendan sneakily backdoored Lex in. We were given a no Lex Luthor mandate for the show for Seasons 1 and 2, and Brendan said, 'Ok,' and then he's like, 'Ivo's gonna have an assistant and his name is gonna be Alex.'"

Is Lois Lane in My Adventures With Superman Asian?
Image
The following contains spoilers for My Adventures with Superman Episodes 1 and 2, "Adventures of a Normal Man," now streaming on HBO Max.

My Adventures with Superman focuses more on the relationship between the Man of Steel and his allies than recent adaptations, namely Clark Kent's romance with Lois Lane. Lois' characterization is the highlight of the series thus far, with many fans loving how it reinterprets the devoted reporter. Likewise, some have noted a specific change seemingly made to the iconic DC character.

From her appearance alone, Lois Lane in My Adventures with Superman is Asian. This is backed up by different aspects of her character that reflect an Asian heritage -- more specifically a Korean one. As surprising as this may seem, it's not the first time that Lois has been Asian, with a similar series in the comics doing the same thing with her.

My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Already in the Works
Image
It's only been a couple of days since Adult Swim and Max premiered My Adventures With Superman, but there seems to be a lot of trust being placed on the animated series that centers on the adventures of Jack Quaid's Clark Kent.

Using a similar animation style to the Japanese anime, My Adventures With Superman centers on Clark trying to establish himself as the hero of Metropolis while ultimately uncovering the mysteries behind his origins, while working as a reporter at The Daily Planet. Lois Lane, for her part, seeks to become the number one journalist with the help of photographer Jimmy Olsen, covering the stories she thinks matter the most.

As the romance between Lois and Clark blossoms, the cunning reporter gets closer to uncovering the truth behind the man she loves and thinks she knows so well, who’s in fact the symbol of hope for the town.

‘Fast Car’ and the Roadblocks Black Female Songwriters Face in Country Music
Image
Last week, Tracy Chapman made country music history by becoming the first Black woman to be the sole songwriter of a Number One country hit when Luke Combs’ cover of her 1988 song “Fast Car” topped the charts.

While celebratory — “I never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I’m honored to be there,” Chapman said — the milestone was also a stark reminder of the historical precarity and lack of opportunities for Black women as songwriters in Nashville: Chapman is just one of a small group of Black...

My Adventures With Superman Review: Adult Swim’s New DC Series Flies
Image
Long-time Superman fans may find the first minutes of My Adventures With Superman a bit off-putting. The soft, watercolor backgrounds, the sharp angles on the character designs, and the stuttered animation reveal the series’ debt to anime. As a young Clark Kent tries in vain to free his kite from a tree in his front yard, viewers will notice more similarities to My Hero Academia or Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba than to the Fleischer Bros. cartoons of the 1940s.

Suddenly, Clark notices a car spinning out of control, its driver distracted by the fussy child in the back seat. Without a second thought, Clark rushes to the car, stopping the vehicle before it slams into a tree. Clark stares at his hands in confusion, wondering how he suddenly gained such speed and strength. But we viewers know the answer: this is Superman, the Man of Steel we know and love.

New Podcasts On The Decline With ‘80 Drop Over Two Years’ – New Data Reveals
Image
New podcasts are on the decline, according to numbers published by data provider Chartr.

Analysts of international production figures have revealed that 2022 saw 219,00 podcasts making their debut – a sharp decline on the year before, when 729,000 new titles were released. This was already down on 2020 – peak pandemic lockdown – which saw the launch of 1,109,000 new podcasts.

Kate Taylor, the founder of Feast Collective network supporting freelance podcasters, told the UK’’s Guardian:

“It feels like we’re in that ‘difficult second album’ moment now, and of course there’s a lot to worry about. I would say sponsorship is harder to find now and that getting investors to understand the amount needed to do something properly is also harder.”

To put things in perspective, the Guardian notes that an estimated three million podcasts are currently available across the world, mostly created in America and Brazil.

Established titles are meanwhile continuing to create new content,...
