Min Kyu-dong’s South Korean action-drama “The Old Woman with the Knife” adapts Gu Byeong-mo’s novel of the same name with results at once languid and overstuffed. While it features an enticing premise, slotting a 65-year-old woman into the underground assassin genre (a position usually reserved for grizzled men and young vixens), its story remains rooted in an inordinate amount of detail, which the film metes out in awkward ways.
Of course, as with any film of this nature, it’s worth first asking whether its fireworks are worthwhile. The answer is yes and no: Initial visual speed bumps render combat frenetic to the point of incomprehensible. This lack of distinct geography initially robs the film of cohesion, and while it does eventually find its groove, its major illusion — surrounding its elderly assassin character — is never quite convincing.

Adapted from the fantasy comic book from 2019, Netflixs Hellbound includes some of the most talented actors from South Korea. The King of Pigs, Peninsula, Train to Busan, and Hellbound director Yeon Sang-ho first explored the series supernatural world in : or The Hell (Two Kinds of Life), an 11-minute rotoscope-animated short film that was finished in 2006. Hellbound season 1 received critical acclaim, and became one of the best horror K-dramas on Netflix.
In 2020, Netflix approved the production of the first season of the series, which was released in 2021. While Hellbound season 1 was a resounding success, Netflix didn't immediately renew the show for a sophomore season. Hellbound season 2 took three years to return to Netflix, initially premiering at the 29th Busan International Film Festival before being added to the streaming platform on 25th October. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Hellbound season 2.
Hellbound season 2 answered a few questions but introduced many other mysteries about the angels, the decrees, and the future of the world. After three years of waiting, Hellbound finally returned with a second season. While the show included yet another time skip, it continued to follow the storylines set up in Hellbound season 1. This includes the return of Jeong-ja, whose resurrection was shown at the end of the first season.
Jeong Jin-su returned for Hellbound season 2 as well, although the character was recast. Jin-sus resurrection was one of many problems Sodo had to deal with amidst the war between the New Truth and Arrowhead followers. The government was also a major player in season 2 in the form of Secretary Lee. The Netflix K-drama focused on the social and political aspects of what was happening in the world, meaning that a lot of questions...

This dark thriller takes us into a society teetering on collapse as inexplicable prophecies of one’s hellish fate sow chaos. Hellbound’s vision is unflinching as supernatural elements intensify power struggles between cults vying to control the panic. Season 2 shows humanity at its extremes yet finds glimmers of moral purpose amid the ruins.
We rejoin this bleak world still reeling from “demonstrations,” gruesome spectacles where angels decree a soul’s end only for monstrous executors to drag them to hell moments later. As fear turns city streets to battlegrounds, two groups rise from the panic: the New Truth, a quasi-religious movement led by Jung Jinsu, and Arrowhead, violent gangs dealing their brand of vigilante justice.
When Jinsu and another victim, Park Jungja, impossible resurrect, the unease morphs to hysteria. Resurrection shakes the existing order, but what meaning can be divined from beyond the grave? As powerbrokers manipulate faith for control,...

Hellbound Season 2 introduces Kim Sung-cheol as the new actor who plays Jeong Ji-su, replacing Yoo Ah-in after he was dropped from the sophomore season due to a drug use scandal in 2023.
The hit Netflix supernatural K-drama brings back a lot of characters from Season 1 as it continues its unusual premise of divine deaths happening in front of the public eye.
Aside from the storyline centered around divine interventions, Season 2 showcases more of the political drama as the Arrowheads have taken over a dystopian future set in South Korea.

Every time a dystopian Korean drama gets a new season, I take a moment to step back and bury my expectations underground because, more often than not, the shows end up going down a predictable path of political drama that doesn’t do justice to the rich and deepworld-building of the previous season. Sweet Home is the perfect example of this concept and how a show can crumble under its own weight trying to be so many things at once. What I appreciate about Hellbound is that it doesn’t get bogged by too many ideas, but does it have any ideas at all? Hellbound season 2 takes place 8 years after Jin-Su seemingly disappeared from the sight of the world. After the resurrection of two main characters, Jung-Ja and Jung Jin-Su, the apparent messiah, there’s political warfare in the country. The Arrowheads have taken over, and there’s anarchy on the streets.

Warning: Spoilers for Hellbound season 2, episode 1.
Jeong Ji-su has been recast for Hellbound season 2, which sees the returns of a lot of characters from season 1. Given that Jeong Ji-su was sentenced to Hell and died in Hellbound season 1, it may be surprising that the character is back in the new season of the Netflix original K-drama. That said, Ji-sus resurrection is part of a larger storyline in Hellbound that was teased at the end of season 1 the return of people who had been sentenced and burned alive. However, Ji-su is no longer played by Yoo Ah-in.
Hellbound had quite a large cast in season 1, particularly because the show introduced a new set of characters after the five-year time jump in episode 4. Several of those characters make a comeback in season 2, including people we saw die on the show. While the wait for Hellbound season 2 was long, the show was also...

With All of Us Are Dead season 2 still far away and potentially only arriving in 2026, those who enjoy horror K-dramas should check out Hellbound, whose second season is finally here after three years. Netflix’s Hellbound had mixed reviews when it first aired. The series, adapted from a popular webtoon of the same name, tells the story of a dystopian world where “God’s Will” is demonstrated through hellish creatures appearing on earth and brutally murdering sinners in daylight and then sending them to hell. The core idea of the series is fantastic, and it starts off on the right foot, giving us a solid story about why some people believe that these creatures are here to show us a righteous path as humans; however, as it keeps going, some rules start to change, and things start to fall apart, specifically with a time jump. There’s a character on the show who falls off the face of the earth, but I imagine this was done on purpose to pull people in for a second season. Still, it’s a bit random. The...

Hellbound, one of Netflix's best horror TV shows will be returning to the small screen three years after its first season premiered. The six-episode series, based on Yeong Sang-hos webtoon of the same name was greenlighted for a second season by Netflix but faced some delays in production. Given Hellbound's season 1 ending which featured an unexpected twist, the second season of the show has a lot of questions to answer and new storylines to explore.
Although the Hellbound season 1 finale set up the series for a second season, Netflix didn't immediately renew it for a sophomore season. The trailer for Hellbound season 2 confirms an October release date, while also revealing a major resurrection. Lee Jin-wook's character Sang-wook died in season 1 but returns in season 2 as a different character using Sang-wook's body. Ui-myeong, who now inhabits Sang-wook's body, reveals his plan to Hyun-su at the beginning of season 2, confirming that Lee Jin-wook is playing a new character. Season 2's finale reveals a major twist that connects Sang-wook, Ui-myeong, and Yi-kyung's husband.
Lee Jin-wook, who played Sang-wook in Sweet Home season 1, returns for season 2, yet he is playing a different character. One of the main antagonists of the first season was Jung Ui-myeong, played by Kim Sung-cheol. While the actor did not return for the new season, Sweet Home found a way to bring Ui-myeong back. The amount of new Sweet Home season 2 characters, combined with the previously introduced liquid monster abilities that allow someone to go from one body to another, made it difficult to keep track of who was who in this part of the story.

Myths and ancient legends have continuously served as a solid backbone to many historical dramas coming from Korea over the past few years. Similar to the brand of Hong Kong or Chinese features, the blend of a known historical backdrop, drama, martial arts and/ a murder mystery has fueled many stories, many of which have been commercially very successful in Korea, but not so much outside, where the majority has been released either digitally or physically. The directorial debut of Ahn Tae-jin falls into this particular category, with “The Night Owl” having won numerous awards in its home country, while it is now being released for home cinema in many countries. The foundation for the features is the mystery surrounding Crown Prince Sohyeon, who attempted to reform his home country but died before doing so.

Yoo Ah-in, last seen in the Netflix series ‘Hellbound’, as well as in ‘Burning’ and ‘The Throne’, was attacked by a disgruntled fan with a bottle of coffee after a court on Wednesday late night dismissed police requests for the formal arrest of the prominent Korean actor on drug use charges, reports ‘Variety’.
Yoo appeared at the Seoul Central District Court on charges that he used five different drugs, says ‘Variety’. Local media photos showed Yoo’s hands were tied with what appeared to be a blue cloth or cord before and during his 90-minute daytime court appearance.
Footage also showed that he was hit by a bottle of coffee thrown by a disgruntled fan, before being led away, unhurt, by bodyguards. Recreational drug use is illegal in South Korea and is heavily stigmatised.

"Those kids don't know they're on a suicide mission, do they?"
We’ve got an intense trailer here for you to watch for an upcoming movie set during the Korean War. It’s called Battle of Jangsari, and it’s based on the true story of a small, inexperienced battalion of student soldiers who are given a mission to liberate the strategic location of Incheon.
This was a critical point in the Korean War and these young men entered battle on the frontlines of Jangsari beach with “little ammunition, low food supplies and second-hand weapons.” The film tells the stories of these forgotten heroes of the Korean War.
The film comes from director Kyung-taek Kwak, and the cast includes Kim Myung-Min, Minho Choi, Sung-Cheol Kim, In-kwon Kim, Si-Yang Kwak, George Eads, and Megan Fox.
