Jake Gyllenhaal’s a Nice Guy With a Mean Uppercut in Trailer for Doug Liman’s ‘Road House’
Image
Jake Gyllenhaal is the Mr. Rogers of bar brawls in the first look at Doug Liman’s updated take on the Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott 1989 classic, Road House.

In the trailer, which is nearly two and a half minutes of nonstop knockouts, Gyllenhaal leads as Elwood Dalton, an ex-UFC middleweight fighter who takes one too many hits, and it’s not clear he can — or wants to — get back up. He’s living out of his beat-up car and participating in underground fighting rings when he’s found by Jessica Williams’ bar owner, who invites him to come work for her.

“A friend of mine suggested I come talk to you. I own a roadhouse out in the Florida Keys. Lately it’s been attracting the wrong clientele,” she tells him. “I can pay you good money. Judging by your car, you need that shit.”

Gyllenhaal’s fighter...

Conor McGregor Attempts Unlikely UFC Comeback in Netflix’s ‘McGregor Forever’ Trailer
Image
Mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor attempts to prove the skeptics wrong as he gears up for a comeback in the first full trailer for the forthcoming Netflix docuseries McGregor Forever.

The spot released Tuesday focuses on the Ultimate Fighting Championship standout’s attempt to return to fighting after suffering a broken leg during his UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. Netflix’s McGregor Forever will consist of four hour-long episodes.

“I’ve been fighting my entire life,” the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion says in the footage. “It’s what I was put here to do.”

The trailer shows McGregor recovering in a hospital bed from the fateful bout, along with pundits speculating on whether he is still capable of competing at an elite level. The video also includes happier scenes, both in the ring and in his personal life, such as the 34-year-old Dublin-born athlete celebrating...

Fox Orders Lifeguard Drama Series ‘Rescue: Hi-Surf’ from Producer John Wells (TV News Roundup)
Image
Fox Entertainment has greenlit “Rescue: Hi-Surf,” a Hawaiian lifeguard drama from “Shameless” producer John Wells and “Outsiders” writer Matt Kester. The series will be co-produced by Warner Bros. Television and is set to debut sometime in the 2023-2024 season.

According to the official synopsis from Fox, “‘Rescue: Hi Surf’ is an action-packed drama that follows the personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O’ahu—the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world.”

“Each episode will feature these dedicated, heroic, and adrenaline-seeking first-responders saving lives in the difficult and often life-threatening conditions of Hawaii’s Seven Mile Miracle.” Kester will write the first episode with Wells directing the first two episodes.

“I’ve lived on the North Shore of O‘ahu for most of my life, and these are our heroes, the most extraordinary extreme athletes anywhere,” said Kester.

Conor McGregor Doubles Down on Comeback Plan in First Footage for Netflix’s ‘McGregor Forever’
Image
Ultimate Fighting Championship standout Conor McGregor refuses to be down for the count in the first look at Netflix’s upcoming docuseries McGregor Forever.

The streamer announced Tuesday that the four-part unscripted series focusing on the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion’s comeback efforts will launch May 17. Preview footage for the project that hails from producer Religion of Sports shows McGregor recovering in a hospital bed after sustaining injuries including a broken leg during his UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

“I thought it was over as well — that’s why I flipped into a different mode,” McGregor says about concerns that the match could end his career. “Now, it was the adrenaline as well, and I know I would have calmed down, and part of me is thinking, ‘Jesus, imagine it was just taken from me like that.’ I would be a different person, and it was a bit scary,...

Bruce Lee, Ahna Capri, Jim Kelly, John Saxon, Shih Kien, and Robert Wall in Enter the Dragon (1973)
Mma Alters Faces of Asian Sports Broadcasting
Bruce Lee, Ahna Capri, Jim Kelly, John Saxon, Shih Kien, and Robert Wall in Enter the Dragon (1973)
Bruce Lee was ahead of the curve by about four decades when he predicted back in the early 1970s that combat sports would one day take the world by storm.

Hong Kong’s favorite son had encouraged his own students to mix up the styles of martial arts they were being trained in — to combine kung fu with judo and just about everything else available — just as he did on screen in such international box office hits as “Enter the Dragon” (1973).

Now, “mixed martial arts” is the fastest growing sport in the world and as well as giving its millions of fans a new style of competition to watch, Mma has altered the broadcasting landscape in terms of how its content is produced and distributed.

Along with traditional live event broadcasts, Mma promotions were among the first to offer content partners — and the public — behind-the-scenes documentaries, training videos, highlight packages...

Conor McGregor's Manager Audie Attar Says Maybe After Khabib it's Mayweather 2!
Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor's manager, Audie Attar, is going to make millions of bucks Saturday night ... as a 10 percenter! We got Audie at a bar at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas, and he scoffed at reports stating Conor is only raking in $3 mil from Saturday's Khabib fight. There are other reports that Conor's pulling in closer to $100 mil. Our intel is that it's somewhere in the middle. Audie teases our photog with a Mayweather/McGregor 2 fight possibly in the future.
