The cinematic release of A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) back in 2016 quickly earned critical acclaim for its beautiful animation and emotional depth. The movie was focused on various topics like bullying, trauma, and redemption. Directed by Naoko Yamada and produced by Kyoto Animation, the movie adaptation of Yoshitoki Ōima’s manga had a lasting impression, but for many fans of the manga, the story had something missing.

While the movie was visually stunning and emotionally resonant, its limited runtime ultimately worked against it, adding a limitation to a rich, layered narrative, making it feel completely rushed and uneven. Had A Silent Voice received an anime adaptation instead of a two-hour film, it may have preserved more of its core themes, character development, and nuanced storytelling.

Turning 21 this week is Shyam Benegal’s biopic Netajji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero. Sachin Khedekar, who turns 60 today, talks with Subhas K Jha on playing the lead character Subhas Chandra Bose.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has always been a controversial figure. Filmmakers have shied away from delving too deep into Netaji’s life.

Not Shyam Benegal. In 2014 he made a brave if flawed bio-pic on Netaji entitled Netajji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero. The story goes that media baron Subrato Roy commissioned Shyam Benegal to make the best-possible bio-pic on Netaji, budget unlimited.

“So how much do you think you will need to do full justice to Netaji?” the millionaire wondered aloud.

“10 crores?” Benegal whose budgets had never gone beyond 5 crores, ventured boldly.

“Take 60. But give me a bio-pic on Netaji that will never be forgotten,” Subrato offered.

The 2025 Coachella Music Festival is here and weekend one is about to begin, so let’s fill you in on all of the set times.

Lady Gaga, Post Malone, and Green Day are headlining the festival this year with Travis Scott set to give a special late-night performance on Saturday. The festival takes place across two weekends and there are different set times for each weekend, so make sure to check accordingly!

Starting next Friday, livestreams of six Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival stages will be made available as the festival kicks off. The event runs Friday-Sunday on two consecutive weekends, April 12-14 & April 19-21.

Headliners this year include No Doubt, Lana Del Rey, Tyler the Creator and Doja Cat. Other artists confirmed include Peso Pluma, Blur, J Balvin, Bizarrap, Sabrina Carpenter, Deftones, Ice Spice, Sublime, Grimes, Bleachers, Carín León, DJ Snake, Suki Waterhouse, Lovevoy, Tinashe, Jon Batiste, Jhené Aiko, Lil Yachty, Bebe Rexha, and Mean Girls star Reneé Rapp, among many others. Subrata Roy, chair of Sahara India Pariwar, a former major player in the Indian media space, died on Nov. 14 in Mumbai. He was 75. Roy was known within the group by the honorific Saharasri.
