Omegle Shuts Down Amid Child-Grooming Allegations
Image
Omegle, the video-chatting platform favored by bored teens and perverts that randomly paired users around the world, shut down on Wednesday night after nearly 14 years in operation, according to a farewell message posted by the site’s owner.

In the lengthy message, which centers on the importance of preserving free speech on the internet, Leif K-Brooks, the owner of Omegle, attributed the shutdown to “a constant barrage of attacks on communication services, Omegle included, based on the behavior of a malicious subset of users.”

“I’ve done my best to weather the attacks,...

How Facial Recognition Technology Could Bring a Slut-Shaming Nightmare
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Knock Down the House (2019)
Facial recognition technology is everywhere these days, and people aren’t having it. Cities like San Francisco have officially instituted bans preventing police officers from using it, and none other than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued an ominous warning that the rise of facial recognition technology is “tied to the political reality that there is a global rise in authoritarianism and fascism.” Now, it’s allegedly being used to ID members of the sex industry, which could potentially be used to chilling effect.

According to a post on the Chinese social network Weibo,...

Is the Case Against Harvey Weinstein in Danger of Collapsing?
Harvey Weinstein and Ryan Kavanaugh
Five months after Harvey Weinstein was first indicted on sex crimes charges in New York, The New York Times reports that prosecutors with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office are struggling to hold together their case against the disgraced Hollywood producer. In May, Weinstein was charged with first- and third-degree rape for an incident with one woman in 2013, and first-degree criminal sex act — forced oral sex — with another in 2004; then, in July, he was indicted on three additional felony sex charges for an incident involving a third victim, who claims Weinstein...

One Charge Dismissed in Harvey Weinstein Sexual Assault Case
Harvey Weinstein and Ryan Kavanaugh
A Manhattan judge dismissed one of six criminal charges against Harvey Weinstein Thursday, The New York Times reports. The dropped charge relates to an allegation brought by Lucia Evans, who claims Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004.

Prosecutors said that they uncovered inconsistencies in statements made by one of Weinstein’s accusers, though the report did not specify what those inconsistencies were. Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, also argued that the grand jury had not been given evidence regarding Evans’ accusation before deciding to indict the disgraced Hollywood mogul.

Asia Argento Arranged Deal With Sexual Assault Accuser – Report
Harvey Weinstein and Ryan Kavanaugh
Harvey Weinstein accuser and outspoken voice of the #MeToo movement Asia Argento has handled her own sexual assault case on the down-low, making an arrangement to pay Jimmy Bennett, who accused her of sexually assaulting him in 2013.

According to the New York Times, the Italian actress has arranged a deal to pay actor/musician Bennett $380,000. The Times said that the alleged assault happened months past his 17th birthday in a California hotel room. Argento was 37 at the time. In court documents, a selfie with the two lying in bed was included. In their agreement, Bennett gave the photo and its copyright to Argento.

Argento’s lawyer, Carrie Goldberg has not made an official comment and Bennett has not released a statement. However, Bennett’s lawyer, Gordon K. Sattro told the Times: “In the coming days, Jimmy will continue doing what he has been doing over the past months and years,...

Weinstein Faces Lawsuit for Allegedly Spying on Paz de La Huerta
Paz de la Huerta
A lawyer who used to represent actress Paz de la Huerta has filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein and an attorney, alleging that they coordinated in a scheme to get the actress to drop her rape complaint against the disgraced Hollywood mogul. Attorney Aaron Filler, who formerly represented de la Huerta, filed the lawsuit late last week in Los Angeles against Weinstein, his company, and attorney Michael Rubin. Paz de la Huerta came forward along with many other women to claim that Weinstein had sexually assaulted them late last year when the scandal broke publically.

Michael Rubin, a former New York prosecutor who is now a defense attorney, is reportedly a "specialist in the criminal defense of rapists," the lawsuit claims. The suit also alleges that Rubin, posing as a "victim's rights advocate," contacted Paz de la Huerta in a diabolical attempt to gain access to and expose her medical...
