Exclusive: HBO Max has acquired streaming rights to the family film Brie‘s Bake Off Challenge, from writer-director Emily Aguilar, for release today.

The story follows Brie Hayes (Devyn Leah), an aspiring 12-year-old baker who does everything she can to win first place in her school’s annual Spring Bake Off Challenge. Brie and her Bffl Millie (Mallory Vertman) must practice and motivate each other in order to win. On top of the actual baking challenges, Brie faces her “archnemesis” and bully, Vanessa Weiler (Delaney Disque), who also wants to win first place. Pressures and tensions rise as the stakes get higher and Vanessa’s crush, Jody (Camden Zapf), is also competing to win. The winner of the Spring Bake Off Challenge will win a whopping 5,000 and tickets to Cosmo Land.

Netflix has canceled its musical drama series “Soundtrack” after one season, a rep for the streaming service confirmed to TheWrap.

The show, which hailed from “Quantico” creator Joshua Safran, only just premiered on Dec. 18.

The series was described as a romantic musical drama that “looks at the love stories connecting a diverse, disparate group of people in contemporary Los Angeles through the music that lives inside their hearts and minds.”

“Every song is a love song,” star Paul James proclaimed in the trailer, which you can watch here. “Each one of us has a soundtrack, and it tells the story of all we have loved.”

The series had originally been set up as a pilot at Fox before moving to the streamer with a series order. It was described as a romantic musical drama that looked at the love stories connecting a diverse, disparate group of people in contemporary Los Angeles through the music that lives inside their hearts and minds. The first and only season debuted on Dec. 18.

It starred Paul James, Callie Hernandez, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Jenna Dewan, Jahmil French, Megan Ferguson, Isaiah Givens, Madeleine Stowe, and Campbell Scott. It was created by Joshua Safran, who also executive produced along with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, and Ali Krug. Annapurna Pictures produced in association with 20th Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios.

Veteran television writer and producer Joshua Safran says music is actually his “No. 1 passion.” Having grown up playing music well before he studied film and television, Safran has had a longtime love of musicals. He was able to combine the mediums in 2013 when he joined then-NBC musical drama “Smash” as showrunner, but now has taken it to another level by creating “Soundtrack” for Netflix.

“‘Smash’ taught me a lot. It taught me how to shoot a musical sequence. That show was the top of the line creative team. One thing I did not know when I started was how to ensure that you are always telling a story through song that was not already being told through the script,” Safran tells Variety.
