Warner Bros. Discovery announced this week that one of Adult Swim's riskiest anime projects to date is about to land on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time.
Rick and Morty: The Anime will have its first home media release on April 29, 2025, according to Anime News Network, giving physical media access to one of Adult Swim's most ambitious yet divisive adaptations. The anime series premiered on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block and streaming service Max last August, starting with its English dub, followed by the English-subtitled Japanese version shortly after airing on the network's Toonami block. However, the show's fan reception was incredibly mixed, with a current critics' score of 50% and an audience score of just 17%.

With the sheer amount of anime available to be watched, it's hard to commit to a huge series like One Piece, Naruto, or even something like Dragon Ball. While those three series have a ton of strengths and plenty of reasons to watch them, they also come with hundreds of episodes and several movies to watch. Some anime series are able to tell their entire stories in just a single season, allowing the casual viewer to enjoy the whole story without committing huge chunks of their time.
A single anime season can vary in length, but they're never more than around 30 episodes. Some single-season animes can tell their tales in as little as 10 episodes, while some need closer to 25. No matter how many episodes there are in a season, it's never more than one chunk of a series, which makes them easier to watch and binge than some of their long-running counterparts.

Isekai is one of the biggest genres in modern anime, and reincarnation has become one of its most recurring themes. Despite having such a simple premise, reincarnation isekai are often surprisingly creative, offering fans a glimpse into some of the most imaginative fictional worlds.
Though the reincarnation subgenre has grown rather oversaturated throughout the years, many titles still top charts as some of the most popular anime series around. With fun and exciting storylines, unique worldbuilding, and lovable casts, it's not hard to see why--many of these shows are legitimately fantastic. From comedy classics like KonoSuba to recent hits such as Mushoku Tensei, reincarnation isekai are hotter than ever, and fans can't get enough of them.

Dwarves are a rare race in anime. When they do show up, they're sure to make a difference. Dwarves are usually the greatest blacksmiths in whatever world they live in. They supply the main character with the god-tier weapons they need to fully realize their power as the protagonists. There are a couple of key characteristics that define all dwarves: they're short, they're great blacksmiths, and they usually prefer to settle things with their fists rather than spells.
If a main character has a dwarven blacksmith, their gear will be better than the rest. Dwarves like Kaijin from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Beren from Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy are able to give their friends armor that gives them jaw-dropping new abilities. When a dwarf isn't making weapons, they're probably using them on the front lines.

The following review contains spoilers for Rick and Morty: The Anime Episodes 1 and 2.
Rick and Morty: The Anime was always going to be a gamble, but Episode 2, "Fighting Mother," shows that the wild fusion of the source material's interdimensional chaos and director/writer Takashi Sano's hyper-stylized vision has more potential than even the most optimistic fans mightve hoped after debut doubts. Where the premiere felt like a skeptical handshake between two worlds, "Fighting Mother" dives headfirst into the madness with a bit more confidence and a helping of satisfying sci-fi schlock.
Excitingly, Episode 2 offers a clearer picture of what both Sano and the Rick and Morty IP at large might be able to do in this new sandbox. Though Rick and Morty: The Anime certainly still has plenty to prove as a long-term experiment, the highest highs of "Fighting Mother" offer a tantalizing glimpse of what could...

Over the course of seven seasons of Rick and Morty, the titular duo has visited myriad parallel universes and met numerous alternate versions of themselves. Each jaunt through spacetime has, in turn, rendered the unfathomable cosmos ever vaster—and their own place in it more insignificant. In a multiverse swimming with innumerable Ricks and Mortys, their existence is but one of untold possibilities, the inevitable product of choices made with and without their consideration.
Rick and Morty’s headier themes are familiar territory for writer and director Sano Takashi, who contributed two entries to the anthology of anime shorts based on the series that Adult Swim aired between 2020 and 2021. The blistering “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil),” for one, is dotted with snappy scenes in which the Smith family philosophizes over meals. “I do what I want and never what I don’t,” Rick says as he forks a leaf of lettuce.

The silly scientist Rick Sanchez and timid grandson Morty Smith have been on outrageous adventures through time and space for over a decade now. Their madcap exploits on Adult Swim’s long-running show Rick and Morty have amassed quite a dedicated following over the years. Fans were thrilled when it was announced the zany duo would be branching out into anime.
Rick and Morty: The Anime tells a new story set in the crazy multiverse we know and love. Just like the Og series, it’s full of wild sci-fi hijinks and biting humor. But this adaptation gives the material a refreshing twist by translating it to anime style. Now Rick, Morty, and the whole gang are brought to vibrant life in a hand-drawn animated world.
The anime sticks closely to canon in some ways, yet also takes the characters down unexpected paths. In the first few episodes, Rick...
