Christian Bale at an event for The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
‘The Pale Blue Eye': Christian Bale Investigates a Series of Cult-Related Murders in Chilling New Trailer (Video)
Christian Bale at an event for The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Christian Bale plays an 1830s detective tasked with solving a series of grisly, possibly cult-related murders in Netflix’s ice-cold thriller, “The Pale Blue Eye.” Watch the first trailer above.

Scott Cooper’s film, which the streamer acquired last year in a 55 million deal, takes place at West Point Academy, a military training school. When a cadet turns up dead, its leadership turns to Augustus Landor (Bale) for help – a local detective who, if rumors are true, “once elicited a confession with nothing more than a piercing look”.

The trailer opens on a wintry landscape, where Landor contemplates the crime at hand – a soldier has been hanged, with his heart expertly cut out from his chest.

‘The Pale Blue Eye’ Trailer: Christian Bale Teams With Edgar Allan Poe to Investigate a Grisly Murder in Netflix Thriller
Image
In the trailer for upcoming film “Pale Blue Eye,” Christian Bale is investigating a murder in 1830s upstate New York.

Netflix has released the first look at the American Gothic mystery film, in which Bale plays veteran detective Augustus Landor. Based on Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel of the same name, the film follows Landor as he is called to investigate a killing at the United States Military Academy in West Point. With a serial killer on the prowl, Augustus enlists Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) to help him solve the case. Poe, the renowned writer and poet known for “The Raven,” “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “A Dream Within a Dream,” is introduced as young cadet at the military academy.

“Down, down, down came the hot thrashing flurry,” Melling’s Poe says in a teaser released on Oct. 27. “Darkest night, black with hell-charneled fury, leaving only that deathly pale blue eye.

Netflix has released its first look at the upcoming Christian Bale-starrer The Pale Blue Eye.

Based on Louis Bayard’s book of the same name, the 1830-set movie sees Bale portray Augustus Landor, a former police detective who’s been called upon to unravel the murder of a cadet at West Point. Things take a darker turn when, after the body is moved to the morgue, it’s uncovered that his heart has been removed.

Up against a seemingly unbreakable code of silence among the cadets and the pressures of a fledging academy desperate to protect its reputation, the world-weary detective turns to one of their own to help him solve the case. That man, with his disdain for the military’s rigors and a penchant for poetry, will become known as Edgar Allan Poe.

In the less-than-a-minute look at the film,...

The Pale Blue Eye Trailer: Christian Bale Meets Edgar Allan Poe
Image
Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Christian Bale's latest, "The Pale Blue Eye," which also represents another collaboration for him with director Scott Cooper. Bale, who is coming off of this summer's "Thor: Love and Thunder," previously worked with Cooper on movies like "Out of the Furnace" and "Hostiles." This time? They're headed back to the 1800s for a mystery that ties into the king of old-time gothic spookiness, Edgar Allan Poe.

In this case, the legendary author behind "The Raven" and "The Masque of the Red Death" is played by Harry Melling, of "The Queen's Gambit" fame. So, how is it that Poe crosses paths with a man trying to solve a murder? Let's have a look-see.

Bale Meets Poe In The Pale Blue Eye Trailer

This is very much just a teaser in the true sense of the word. We get very little sense of the story at hand,...
