Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 2 Part 1 of “Wednesday.”
After defeating an evil resurrected pilgrim, a hyde and its master in Season 1 of “Wednesday,” the Addams family heroine (Jenna Ortega) finds herself at the center of an even more urgent mystery in Season 2. There’s been a new string of murders in Jericho, and according to one of Wednesday’s psychic visions, her roommate, Enid (Emma Myers), might be next.
Wednesday quickly figures out that she’s dealing with an avian, someone with the ability to control birds who is using them to kill people. She was too late to save Sheriff Galpin (Jamie McShane), who was in the middle of his own investigation when he died, but is able to recover some of his evidence: the obituaries of several outcasts who were patients at the Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. Each newspaper clipping is connected on a bulletin board to the name Lois.

The first four episodes of the second season of Wednesday are now streaming on Netflix, and the review embargo lifted early this morning.
For the most part, the critical reception has been positive, although some feel that the second season is a step down in quality from the first. The entire cast - Jenna Ortega is, once again, said to be a major standout - come in for praise, but quite a few reviews mention that an overstuffed, formulaic plot does hold the show back to some extent.
Despite a few negative verdicts, Wednesday season 2 is now "Certified Fresh" at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.
At the end of the day, if the first season was up your alley, we don't expect any major disappointments here!

Wednesday is back after a three-year hiatus, and critics say the ghoulish wait was well worth it.
The second season, to be released in two parts on Aug. 6 and Sept. 3, has received mostly glowing reviews, even surpassing the first season's Rotten Tomatoes score by double digits. As of now, the first half of Season 2 stands at 86 percent, compared to just 73 percent for Season 1, which bowed on Nov. 23, 2022. According to critics, the new episodes are "deliciously twisted" and "murderously enjoyable."
Emmy nominee Jenna Ortega returns in season 2 as Wednesday Addams, a goth girl with psychic powers, as she navigates fresh foes and a creepy mystery at Nevermore Academy. It feels bizarre that Wednesday returns at a time when Halloween is still months away. The show that became a runaway Netflix hit — while creatively reinvigorating director Tim Burton and turning Jenna Ortega into a generational star — radiates creepy, kooky and altogether ooky vibes, spinning the Addams Family character into her own Harry Potter-for-goth-kids YA detective series with hugely fun results. But Wednesday’s return at the height of summer speaks to Netflix’s blockbuster approach for the show’s second season — much bigger and starrier, a Stranger Things-like glow-up in scope, with somewhat mixed results.
The not-so-secret weapon in Season 1 was Ortega herself — knockout casting, elevating the material with deliciously deadpan delivery. She remains excellent here, relishing every cutting line. “It’s Addams with two Ds,” she declares early on. “Like ‘padded room’.” We’re reunited with Wednesday during her idea of...

Warning: contains spoilers for Season 1 of Wednesday.
A Gothic boarding school especially for outcasts. A gossip-blogging werewolf roommate with a candy-colored bob. A new friend with the power to control insects. A principal who’s a shapeshifter. The protagonist’s most trusted compatriot: a disembodied hand. Yes, she’s being stalked by a monster whose hunting grounds are the woods by her school, but that’s just part of the mystique: Wednesday has made battling for your life look and feel aspirational.
When Wednesday dropped on Netflix way back in November 2022, it arrived to huge pre-release buzz and quickly became a hit, surpassing even Stranger Things. This probably shouldn’t have been a surprise, since Wednesday is spun off from IP that is, fittingly, immortal. This article contains spoilers for "Wednesday" season 2.
To the kooky, ooky, and spooky Addams family, a grisly demise sounds like their idea of a good time. Perhaps that's why "Wednesday," the Netflix series which is this era's preeminent "Addams Family" show, isn't stingy with bumping its characters off. In the same way that anyone in the show can be a suspect, given all the horror creature abilities and bad blood between Outcasts and Normies, anyone could become a victim, too. The first season saw a number of people killed at the hands of the monstrous Hyde lurking within Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan). Although Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) eventually dropped her crush on the boy and put a stop to his rampage, Tyler is still lurking in the bowels of Willow Hill sanitarium in Jericho, Vermont during the show's second season.
Tyler does indeed get up to his old murderous tricks...

Plot: Wednesday Addams, returns to prowl the Gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where fresh foes and woes await. This season, Wednesday must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem. Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery.
Review: The first season of Wednesday became a massive hit for Netflix despite a quintessentially CW-style approach to storytelling. But, armed with the unique visual style of director Tim Burton and a supporting role from The Addams Family movie star Christina Ricci, Wednesday was anchored by Jenna Ortega’s pitch-perfect take on the macabre teenage protagonist. While the story of Wednesday attending Nevermore Academy felt like a horror-tinged take on Nancy Drew, the series had its charms and easily garnered a second season. Introduced as the timid younger brother of Wednesday, Pugsley Addams could be hiding a major secret that could have serious consequences for characters in Wednesday Season 2. The Netflix hit starring Jenna Ortega in the lead has returned with a second season, bringing back Isaac Ordonez in a much bigger role as the youngest Addams, who appears to have come out of his shell.
And this season might not be ready for the mysterious new version of the character. With his newfound powers and a seat alongside his sister at Nevermore, Pugsley could turn out to be the secret that could change everything.

This post contains spoilers from Wednesday season 2 episode 1 from this point forward.
Long time no see, Wednesday Addams! It's been nearly three years since the Emmy Award-nominated Netflix original series premiered, but Wednesday season 2 has finally arrived. The first episode, aptly titled "Here We Woe Again," kicks off with Wednesday harnessing her psychic abilities with help from Goody's book and taking on a new mystery to solve. She takes it upon herself to solve the Kansas City Scalper cold case.
Somehow still making it through airport security even though she had an arsenal of weapons on her person, Wednesday makes it to Kansas City and confronts the Scalper (Haley Joel Osment). Her psychic vision gives her black tears, and Thing helps her out when the Scalper ties her up in his basement. She returns home after catching the serial killer, but it's time to head back to school at Nevermore Academy.

Did you watch the first season of Netflix’s Wednesday and come away wishing for more mystery and less humor, more of the secondary members of the Addams family and less of Jenna Ortega’s Emmy-nominated performance, more of the supernatural world of outcasts and less of the real world for contrast?
It’s Ok not to remember exactly. Wednesday premiered nearly three years ago, a duration also known as “adolescence” for most of the underaged supporting cast.
Fortunately, and conveniently, few of the specific plot details from that well-received season are all that relevant. There are enough expositional reminders here for a general catch-up, but the truth is that the new season of Wednesday is so generic that my biggest challenge was separating my memory of the first season from nearly identical dynamics that played out in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Percy Jackson and the Olympians and...

What's to be done about those who are themselves strange and unusual? The typical answer is for culture to either assimilate or reject the outcasts; if their quirks cannot be embraced and worked into more digestible form for the masses, then they must be renounced, laughed at, and diminished. This is the artistic struggle that filmmaker Tim Burton has dealt with for the entirety of his career, and he's been around long enough to have experienced all the facets of issues with trendiness and conformity. For the first half of his career, Burton's oddball traits were resoundingly praised. Then, like his Edward Scissorhands or Oswald Cobblepot, the luster faded, either in his own work or the public's liking of it (or perhaps a mixture of both), and he endured a period of great financial success mixed with ill reception. In the last several years, Burton has appeared to reach...

Wednesday, the fan-favorite, mystery-oriented spin-off/reboot of the long-running Addams Family franchise, has finally returned for a second season on Netflix after three long years of waiting. Indeed, fans have been chomping at the bit for more of Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton’s fresh new take on the beloved Addams daughter, and you can count me amongst them as someone who’s had a soft spot for Charles Addams’ kooky creations since high school.
But with the pedigree of the first season and the long hype cycle for Season 2, can the final product actually live up to those expectations? Right now, I am happy to report that the answer is mostly yes. Season 2 is at least as good as the first season, and by the end I could easily see it being better. “Here We Woe Again” is an apt title for the Season 2, Part 1, opener of Netflix’s mega-hit “Wednesday.” Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar with Tim Burton in the director’s chair, the series follows Wednesday Addams (a perfectly cast Jenna Ortega) — a macabre, black cloaked teen with psychic abilities. Having spent her summer break honing her prophetic visions and indulging in a game of chicken with a serial killer, Wednesday returns to Nevermore Academy for the fall term. Yet, things aren’t as they once were. A shocking mystery quickly begins to occupy Wednesday’s time, leading her to uncover some haunting secrets concerning Jericho and its history with outcasts. Additionally, a lot more is revealed about the Addams family lore, including the root of Wednesday and Morticia’s (Catherine Zeta-Jones) strained relationship. Full of zing and depth, the season remains just as thrilling as the first.

A decade ago, in an era before “Stranger Things,” it would have been unthinkable for a show to return after three years off the air and expect its audience to pick up where it left off. “Wednesday,” the popular horror-mystery drama focused on the daughter of the Addams family, is one such case in our changed streaming landscape.
Thankfully, the first four episodes of the much-anticipated second season step up to the plate. It may not reach the heights of “Stranger Things,” but with Tim Burton returning to direct two of the four episodes, it’s a consistently entertaining watch. Jenna Ortega continues to be the show’s secret ingredient, embodying the iconic character with a steely deadpan and hilarious, sardonic one-liners.
What works particularly well in this new season was promised by Ortega herself many full moons ago, when she admitted that Wednesday’s love triangle in the first season made “no sense.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have been writing together ever since they met at USC’s Peter Stark producing program in the early ’90s and sold their first script to New Line Cinema.
After countless movies and TV series, this week they premiere Season 2 of their popular series “Wednesday,” executive-produced by Tim Burton, on Netflix. Having sampled the first four episodes, I can attest that Season 2 is even more delicious than Season 1.
For one thing, for budget reasons, the showrunners had to trim some Season 1 subplots, thus relying more heavily on young star Jenna Ortega, now age 22, in the title role of Addams daughter Wednesday, an amateur supernatural detective in her first year at outsider school Nevermore Academy. This time around, with Netflix loosening the purse strings, the series expands with new characters including eager-to-please Nevermore Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) and Grandmama Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), while giving more time...

Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) got up to plenty of mischief and adventure in Season 1 of the eponymous Netflix series, created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
The coming-of-age series centering the young heroine as she carves out her own path amongst her Outcast peers at Nevermore Academy had plenty of mystery and investigation, none of which daunted her. Some might even say it was the social scene at school that haunted her more than a mysterious monster lurking in the woods, students keeping secrets from her and those very obviously and vocally out to get her.
For those needing a refresher about what happened in Wednesday Season 1 ahead of the arrival of Season 2 Part 1, below lies a recap of the most salient plot points.

An Oxford-set college rom-com from the guy behind The Inbetweeners; the return of one of Netflix’s biggest ever shows; Genndy Tartakovsky’s latest adult animated project; Vanessa Kirby’s return to more intimate dramas about the human condition; a documentary that promised to shed new light on the Jussie Smollett hate crime incident; and a murder mystery film featuring several British and Irish acting icons are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in August.
Kicking off August is the rom-com My Oxford Year, which focuses on the tried and trusted formula of a young American girl heading to stuffy old Europe and finding love with some impossibly handsome and terribly charming guy, so it’s almost guaranteed to find a huge audience. In this instance, Sofia Carson plays Anna, an ambitious American student at Oxford University whose life is changed when she meets...

Season 2 of Wednesday hasn’t even dropped yet, but fans already have their eyes on Season 3. The good news? It’s officially happening, and it’ll also be made up of eight episodes. Writers are already deep into developing the next chapter. The not-so-clear part? Whether Tim Burton will return to direct.
Series co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have confirmed via Collider that Burton’s involvement depends entirely on his schedule. He directed four episodes each in Seasons 1 and 2, but as of now, nothing’s locked in for Season 3. Millar said:
It’s always great to have Tim here. And the fact that he did four episodes in the first season and four this season was amazing. You know, so, it just depends on his schedule. After Season 2 was confirmed, Netflix revealed that they are interested in a Wednesday spinoff starring Fred Armisen's Uncle Fester. Looking beyond Season 2, Percy Jackson is hoping to have more in common with Only Murders in the Building and less with Wednesday. While there are a lot of differences between the two shows, one major one is that Only Murders pumps out a new season every year, while Wednesday has taken three years to produce its second season.
In an extensive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Percy Jackson executive producer Craig Silverstein expressed hope that there would be no more two-year gaps between seasons of the Disney+ original. Before the era of streaming, fans could expect a new season of their favorite show every year, with the only hiatus being between May, when the season finale aired, and September, when the new season kicked off. However, as streaming originals exploded in popularity (and budget), the wait for a new season began to grow, with two or three gaps becoming the new normal.

Updated with the latest: Wednesday’s sophomore season has become the latest to get the two-part release treatment from Netflix.
After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for a second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered. It eventually became the most-watched original series ever on the streamer, with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She became just the third Latina ever to be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Good news would make Wednesday Addams feel like harming someone to relish the emotional whiplash, but this bit would surely be exciting. Ahead of the premiere of the much-anticipated second season of Netflix's hit series Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the show has been renewed for Season 3. Series director Tim Burton and star Jenna Ortega shared the news. The news of the early renewal, while surprising, doesn't come as a total shock, given the show's immense popularity on the streaming platform. Wednesday Season 1 stands proud as the most-watched season of a Netflix show, making it the most popular Netflix original series of all time. The show has amassed 252.1 million views so far, and this number is expected to increase when Season 2 debuts its first part on August 6.
The Hollywood Reporter also posed the question of the show's longevity, but the executive producer and actor did not have a definite answer.

The horror genre is on a hot streak on the big screen. However, where television is concerned, Wednesday looks to ignite the fuse even further when Season 2 debuts on Netflix later this summer. The arrival of the Wednesday season 2 trailer raises several questions, from Addams family secrets to the reveal that one of Wednesday's most trusted friends may not be alive for much longer, and Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) herself could be responsible.
Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzmán), and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) are all set to make a splash at Nevermore Academy as they step into larger roles in the series, but perhaps the standout moment of the trailer is the revelation that Wednesday has a vision that she will eventually be the cause of Enid's untimely death.
From the look of the trailer, season 2 may be focusing on Wednesday and Enid's relationship as the core of the series. The season 2 trailer suggests that the season may be mostly about Wednesday's quest to save Enid (Emma Myers) from a deadly fate.
But Enid's questionable destiny is not the only thing that Wednesday...

Morticia swears she won’t let history repeat itself in the official trailer for Netflix’s Wednesday season two. Apparently the titular character has a vision of Enid dying and believes it’s all her fault. Morticia’s determined that won’t happen on her watch, and Wednesday promises she’ll save her roomie or die trying.

Jenna Ortega returns as the delightfully morbid and gloomy Wednesday Addams in the new trailer for Wednesday season 2. She's joined by the rest of the Addams family, including the return of Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Fred Armisen as Lurch. and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams—who begins his own Nevermore Academy journey. The Addams family will expand this season, introducing equally kooky additions such as Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley as Grandmama Hester Frump.
Ortega herself has promised that season 2 will forgo the cheesy love triangle stuff in favor of a more horror-focused season, and the trailer does a great job of highlighting the tonal shift. It appears that the fan-favorite friendship between Wednesday and her roommate/bestie Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) will be front and center this time around. I'm sure those who ship the "Wenclair" pairing will be happy to see how...

Netflix has finally dropped the trailer for Wednesday Season 2 Part 1, and things are looking gloomier, deadlier, and far more complicated for our favorite gothic sleuth. Returning to Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) finds herself entangled in another dark mystery—one that threatens her closest relationships and even her grip on reality.
Enid’s Life Hangs in the Balance
At the heart of the new trailer lies a terrifying revelation: Wednesday envisions the death of her roommate and best friend, Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), and believes she may be the cause. “Enid dies, and it’s all my fault,” Wednesday admits, setting the stage for a high-stakes season. The bond between the werewolf and the clairvoyant will be pushed to its limits as Wednesday races against time to save Enid from her ominous fate.
“Enid and Wednesday understand each other now on a deeper level,” Myers shares, hinting at a more emotionally layered friendship.
