‘And then somebody throws a piece of sh-t at you’: ‘The Diplomat’ star Ato Essandoh on Stuart getting honeytrapped
Image
One of the elements of Netflix's The Diplomat that lends itself to being an addictive drama is how the show juggles huge political turmoil alongside relationship drama and often comedic complications for the core characters. Case in point, Stuart Heyford (Ato Essandoh), the deputy chief of mission of the U.S. embassy in London. Besides his duties being the right hand for U.S. ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), Stuart had a tumultuous second season.

After surviving the Season 1 finale explosion, he recovered enough to return to work and randomly met a woman (Adrienne Warren) with whom he hooked up, only to find out there was nothing random about it all. His ex-girlfriend Eidra (Ali Ahn), the CIA station chief, set it all up to ensure he was ready to come back to his job.

Here, Essandoh tells us whether he likes to know what's coming on the hit drama,...

Fear Street: Prom Queen gets a batch of character posters
Image
Fear Street: Prom Queen, the continuation of the Fear Street film franchise that began with the release of the trilogy of Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666 on the Netflix streaming service back in the summer of 2021, made its way through production last year, and recently it was announced that the new film will be available to watch on Netflix as of May 23rd. With that date just a couple weeks away, a batch of character posters have been released online, and you can check them out at the bottom of this article.

Author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. While the initial trilogy of films wasn’t directly based on any specific Fear Street book, the new movie will be telling a version of the story Stine crafted for his 1992 book The Prom Queen.

R.L. Stine says there are three more Fear Street movies in the works
Leigh Janiak
Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. While we won’t be getting another trilogy event this year, we do know that a new addition to the franchise, Fear Street: Prom Queen, will be reaching Netflix sometime in 2025 – and Stine has told The Hollywood Reporter that there actually are three new Fear Street movies in the works!

After telling the interviewer there are three Fear Streets in development,...

Maika Monroe reteams with Watcher director Chloe Okuno for vampire movie Brides
Image
At one time, Watcher director Chloe Okuno was attached to direct the fourth entry in Netflix’s R.L. Stine-inspired Fear Street franchise – but while Fear Street: Prom Queen has made its way through production without her involvement (the movie ended up being directed by Matthew Palmer), Okuno has been busy getting another genre project set up. One that will reunite her with Watcher star Maika Monroe. This one is called Brides, and Deadline reports that it’s currently in pre-production, aiming to start filming in the Spring of 2025.

Scripted by Okuno, Brides draws inspiration from Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. Set in 1960s Italy, it will show us what happens when Sally Bishop (Monroe) and her husband travel to a remote villa in the wake of Sally’s nervous breakdown. The villa’s owner, a mysterious count, takes a peculiar interest in Sally. But he gets far more than...

Celebrating the Innovation and Growth of Conero Film + Adv 2024
Image
Last week Directors Notes had the privilege of being invited back to sit on the jury of the second edition of Conero Film + Adv – taking place from the 6th – 8th of September, organised by Local Bizarro and MontanariPR. This year’s edition welcomed and hosted agencies, production companies, brands and directors into the heart of the Conero Natural Park in Italy, harnessing a unique and refreshing blend of forward thinking film festival curation and the spirit and collaboration of a creative retreat. Conero Film + Adv saw an impressive second year growth with 800 films submitted from 34 countries, screening 60 projects and featuring a host of engaging and educational industry panels, along with a filmmaker Q&a hosted by Dn’s own MarBelle.

Amongst the winners and attendees, Dn was delighted to re-connect with Cfa’s Nico Montanari and Mattia Fiumani – who we spoke to last year about the festival’s unique sustainability ethos across its curation and operations,...

Paul Walter Hauser's Emmy Acceptance Speech Was Also A Wrestling Promo
Image
We here at /Film love actor Paul Walter Hauser. The "I, Tonya," "Cobra Kai," and "Black Bird" star is one of the most exciting performers currently working today, and also one of the most unpredictable. Just before it was announced that he had won the statue for Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie for "Black Bird," he had just taken a bite of something, meaning he started his acceptance speech still chewing. When he finally made it to the stage, he pulled out his phone and began reciting a rhyming speech from his phone.

His hands were shaking, likely from a combination of nerves and excitement, but it was certainly an odd choice to write a poetic acceptance speech that had a tinge of silliness. And then ... he got to the end. Following thank-yous to his wife, co-star Ray Liotta, and many others who helped him get to where he is now,...
