Updated with statement from Devin Strader — ABC and Warner Bros. find themselves in a bit of hot water with The Bachelorette after news surfaced Monday that Season 21 contestant Devin Strader was arrested for burglarizing an ex-girlfriend’s Louisiana home in 2017. The revelation calls into question the franchise’s vetting process once again.
It comes just two weeks after the season finale, during which audiences learned that Strader was the last man standing, accepting a proposal from Jenn Tran, but he broke up with her shortly after.
In addition to his arrest, documents from the Baton Rouge Police Department state that Strader’s ex had a restraining order at the time. In response to these reports, Strader issued a statement saying that the situation reflected a “low point” in his life that has been “severely misconstrued.”
“We take the safety of our contestants very seriously and make every effort to conduct thorough diligence.

The newest “Bachelorette” winner Devin Strader was arrested seven years before the show’s most recent season, in which he won and briefly got engaged to lead Jenn Tran.
RealitySteve, who reports on Bachelor Nation news, published an affidavit reportedly from Strader’s arrest warrant on one felony count of “simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.” In the legal docs filed by an unnamed ex-girlfriend on March 19, 2017 and attached to the published arrest warrant, she alleged that while she was out of town, her house was broken into and a diamond necklace he had gifted her was stolen. Variety has separately verified the affidavit.
She also alleged that Strader previously came to her house multiple times, banging on the door and screaming at her. According to the affidavit, on March 22, 2017, she filed a restraining order. “[Strader] made a fire out in the street with what appeared to be the actual restraining order.

Now that “The Bachelorette” is over, winner Garrett Yrigoyen is coming clean about the social media controversy that he found himself engulfed in, long before he won over Becca Kufrin’s heart and became engaged on national TV.
Yrigoyen, who beat out runner-up Blake Horstmann on Monday night’s “Bachelorette” finale, made headlines early-on during the season when his past Instagram activity came to light, revealing a history of liking controversial Instagram posts, including images and memes that mocked liberal women, trans people, undocumented immigrants, and Parkland high school students.
Speaking exclusively with Variety, alongside his fiancé, Kufrin, the day after “The Bachelorette” finale, Yrigoyen says he does not carry the beliefs expressed in the controversial Instagram posts.
“Initially, when I followed those accounts, it’s because I am a patriotic guy. I do support our troops and I love my country, so when I saw those posts in the beginning,...

Becca Kufrin is a bachelorette no more.
The former “Bachelor” contestant handed out her final rose on Monday’s three-hour finale, complete with a proposal from Garrett Yrigoyen.
That made Blake Horstmann the heartbroken runner-up. “I think that we could be right and we could be partners — but I think that there’s just a better fit for us out there,” Becca told her suitor when breaking the bad news to him.

You may have noticed that not every man Becca Kufrin sent home on The Bachelorette was on the infamous "The Men Tell All" episode. Among them was Lincoln Adim, and you can probably guess why.
The Nigerian-born account executive was the first man to meet Becca before the official season even started. His good looks and accent made him a catch from the start, but things quickly turned for Lincoln about halfway through the season . . . both on the show and in real life.
News broke on June 13 that Lincoln was convicted of indecent assault and battery in May for a 2016 incident. According to reports, he was found guilty of assaulting and groping a woman on a cruise ship. It's expected that he will have to register as a sex offender.

Former Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick will not be charged in three separate sexual assault cases. According to legal docs obtained by Radar Online, three alleged victims accused the actor of misconduct in 2014 but only two provided witnesses. Prosecutors also said these witnesses could not provide sufficient evidence. Back in March, a fourth accuser had stepped forward. Haley Freedman filed a police report against the actor, who continued to deny the rape allegations against him. "I can confirm Haley filed a police report on Wednesday, regarding allegations that Ed Westwick raped her,” her rep told Us Weekly at the time. Haley was the latest to accuse Ed, 31, of sexual assault, joining Kristina Cohen, Aurélie Wynn, and Rachel Eck. Rachel told BuzzFeed on Nov. 14 that the incident took place the night before the Academy Awards in 2014. Rachel claims she met up with Ed and her ex-boyfriend, film producer Kaine Harling, at...

ABC was easily Monday night’s Nielsen ratings sweetheart thanks to its pair of reality dating shows,”The Bachelorette” and “The Proposal,” taking the lead in both the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and total viewers, according to early numbers. That win comes despite the fact both of those series are currently facing criticism for accusations of sexual misconduct posed against its contestants.
The Disney-owned broadcaster’s planned installment for week two of “The Proposal” was swapped out for a different fresh episode last night after a contestant featured in the original was accused of being “directly responsible” for “date rape” last week. The show held steady with its premiere’s numbers in both the key 18-49 age range and overall eyeballs. And “The Bachelorette” ruled the entire night, as per usual, as it faces criticism for casting contestant Lincoln Adim, who was convicted of indecent assault and battery in May...

Every season of The Bachelorette, there is the highly anticipated two-on-one date that brings two feuding contestants to face off for one rose. On Becca Kufrin's season, it was Jordan Kimball and David "Chicken Guy" Ravitz. The nemeses headed to a bed in the middle of the desert — if you're having Ashley I. and Kelsey flashbacks, you are not alone — and it didn't take long for David to call out Jordan for his (un)model behavior. Along with accusing him of bragging about his 4,000 Tinder matches, David also claimed that the 26-year-old Florida native said he was "settling" for Becca, which unsurprisingly reminded Becca of her ex-fiancé Arie Luyendyk Jr., who dumped her on national television. Jordan denied the claims, and Becca compared the situation to the sixth-grade fight and called it "petty." So, did Becca send Jordan home? Silence? We’re soaking it it. #TheBachelorette pic.twitter.com/D...

The Proposal creator Mike Fleiss, after first seeming to take a not-really-our-fault stance after accusations of sexual misconduct surfaced about one of the male contestants on the ABC show, tweeted a pledge to “find ways to do better,” apparently a reference to weeding out what he called “abusive assholes” from his shows.

How in the world did Lincoln Adim's criminal history slip past The Bachelorette producers? That's a tricky question. Lincoln, who caught Becca Kufrin's eye during the second week of filming after he won a wedding-themed challenge, was charged with indecent assault and battery on May 21 in Boston. The charge came from a case in 2016 where a woman reported that Lincoln had groped and grinded on her, despite the fact that she tried to push him off. The Bachelor franchise has consistently claimed that their background checks are incredibly strict, but letting Lincoln on the show seems to contradict that. In hopes to do some damage control, Warner Bros. released this statement: "No one on The Bachelorette production had any knowledge about the incident or charges when Lincoln Aidm was cast. He himself denied ever having engaged in or having been charged with any sexual misconduct." (Photo Credit: Getty Images...

Another day, another contestant on The Bachelorette who makes us wonder what the background checks at ABC are like, or if they even exist at all.
