Toby Romero is a bi-continental Cinematographer based in Los Angeles, New York, and Prague.
Toby's calling to filmmaking took center stage after acceptance into a Ghetto Film School (GFS) Fellowship at age 15. He graduated NYU with honors while earning a BFA in Film & Television Production. He spent his college summers at Warner Bros. as a REACH Honorship Scholar in a four-year internship working with New Line Cinema and Netflix's "Fuller House."
His 2021 short film "The Ladder," where he served as Director of Photography, received coverage by Associated Press and U.S. News & World Report. In 2022, Toby won The Volker Bahnemann Award for outstanding cinematography presented by ARRI and NYU. In 2023, he wrapped John Carpenter's "Suburban Screams" operating camera for the acclaimed horror director, which is streaming on Peacock.
Toby has worked on narrative films, commercials, documentaries, and music video shoots from his favorite local spots to Ketchikan, Alaska to Tel Aviv, Israel. His Norwegian and Latino backgrounds influence a unique visual style. He's most excited to shape light with new directors and deliver a psychological lens into underrepresented stories.
When not on set, Toby can be found in the ocean surfing or on the mountain snowboarding.
