Crystal Lake could be coming to TV screens in 2025. Friday the 13th director Sean S. Cunningham recently shared what he had heard about when the A24 prequel series might be released on Peacock.
While attending Silver Scream Con (via Bloody Disgusting), Cunningham revealed that he had last heard that A24 was "talking about shooting [Crystal Lake] in Australia at the end of this year and releasing on Halloween 2025." However, Cunningham warned those in attendance that he had "heard versions of that story for so long" that he no longer puts "a lot of credibility into it," noting that there are "just so many things that can go sideways."

A24's Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, is back on track. Brad Caleb Kane has assumed the reins of the hotly-anticipated horror series following Bryan Fuller's exit in May 2024.
Per Deadline, Kane will serve as the creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer of Crystal Lake. "From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guys eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask," said Kane in a statement. "Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothings defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldnt be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24."

Whatever's happening with the Friday the 13th prequel series, Bryan Fuller will no longer be a part of the project moving forward. Following conflicting reports about whether the project had been canceled, Fuller has confirmed that he's now off the project due to A24 wanting to go in a different direction.
"Adapting classic horror is something I have some experience with," Fuller said in a post on X, including a Gif of the Friday the 13th logo. "These shows require a vision that elevates and transforms, as well as delivers what audiences have come to expect, which is an ambitious and risky endeavor. It requires people to take the leap with me."
