Shooting: Saurabh Chaudhary, Manu Bhaker win 10m air pistol trials
Image
New Delhi, June 29 (Ians) Former world number one Saurabh Chaudhary’s return to the winner’s circle was the highlight of the penultimate day while Manu Bhaker also registered back-to-back wins at the national selection trials (5 and 6) for Group A rifle and pistol shooters, here on Thursday.

Saurabh and Manu won the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol T5 trials respectively. On the other hand, Paris 2024 quota winner Swapnil Kusale, notched up the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) T6 winner’s title at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range, here.

It was a tight 49-man qualification round which Saurabh ended up topping with a score of 582, but only by virtue of more inner 10s than the Navy’s Ujjwal Malik and his good friend and Tokyo Olympics mate Abhishek Verma, as the top three finished on the same score.

It was also certainly not the best final...

Priyanka Karunakaran looks to firm up her position with 'Radhan'
Image
Priyanka Karunakaran, a Malayali actor who made her debut in Netflix’s ‘Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga’ with Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal, is all set to star in ‘Radhan’, a short film that is scheduled to release on a popular Ott platform this month.

Starring Bhupendra Jadawat and Priyanka as leads, ‘Radhan’ is a Kissaghar production directed by Mayank Pushpam Singh.

Priyanka even won the best actress in a lead role in the short film category at the Indo French International Film Festival for ‘Radhan’. The short film also won an award at the recently held Dadasaheb Phalke Awards.

The film is about finding love in difficult circumstances. In a chawl in Mumbai, where not much is around to encourage or drive ambitions, a jobless not-so-young man is challenged to re-look at life and love by a GenZ girl, quite contrary to all his convictions. Through the characters of Ujjwal and Madhu,...

Is Trial by Fire Based on a True Story?
Image
In the first episode of Netflix India’s newest show, Trial by Fire, Neelam Krishnamoorthy (Rajshri Deshpande) has a heart-to-heart with her now deceased children’s young friend Arjun, who is visibly shaken after having survived a terrible fire at a movie theater. Neelam’s goal is precisely to understand how her beloved Ujjwal (Abhishek Sharrma) and Unnati (Poorti Jai Agarwal) perished in the fire, and how Arjun managed to come out alive. The answers she gets from the boy, however, aren’t exactly what she expected. According to Arjun, the only reason he didn’t succumb to the smoke was because he wasn’t inside the theater at all. He arrived late to find the doors to the auditorium bolted shut. Neelam is, of course, shocked by this information. But little does she know that this is just one of the many horrible details that make up the tragedy...

Searing ‘Trial by Fire’ Marks Delayed Justice – And One of Netflix India’s Best Yet: TV Review
Image
On the afternoon of June 13, 1997, a fire caused by an improperly maintained transformer broke out in Delhi’s Uphaar Cinema, quietly fumigating an auditorium packed for a first-day screening of flagwaving blockbuster “Border” with carbon monoxide before plunging the room into darkness.

Those scrambling for the exits found multiple code violations standing between them and survival; the balcony doors had been padlocked from the outside to prevent late entry. 59 cinemagoers never saw the light again; over 100 were injured.

“It wasn’t a cinema hall, it was a crematorium,” notes one official in “Trial by Fire,” a necessarily sorrowful but forcefully compelling seven-part dramatization of the blaze and its aftermath, which represents one of Netflix India’s strongest miniseries to date.

At its centre are Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy (Rajshri Deshpande and Abhay Deol), a representative middle-class couple who are introduced as they wave their son Ujjwal (Abhishek Sharrma) and daughter...
