Robert Zemeckis has one of the most eclectic filmographies in history under his belt. From the ever-prevalent and mainstream Back to the Future series to his infamous motion capture version of A Christmas Carol, Zemeckis' body of work has always been concerned with emerging technology. The director seemingly has a fascination with integrating or establishing cutting-edge developments in filmmaking.
Zemeckis' latest venture into this territory is Here, which employs the use of a de-aging artificial intelligence technology on actors called Metaphysic Live that works in real-time as opposed to post-production. However, this is not Here's only technological gimmick. The movie also takes place entirely within one room and from one camera angle. Despite these cinematic innovations, Here has not been very well-received by critics or audiences. One major reason being cited for the backlash is the film's ending. So, how does Here end, and is it as bad as everyone says?...

Before production had begun on the anticipated film adaptation of Enid Blyton‘s The Magic Faraway Tree, director Ben Gregor worried that he’d put one of his stars, Andrew Garfield, off a little bit.
“We wrote a song for the film and we sent it to Andrew early on,” Gregor explains to The Hollywood Reporter. “And I hadn’t worked with him yet and you don’t know… With actors sometimes, you can put them off.”
But Garfield loved it. The gesture ended up being instrumental in the atmosphere that Gregor later cultivated on set — one of true-heartedness, trust, and that crucial Blyton ingredient: magic. “Everybody was putting themselves out there,” Gregor says.
The project has grabbed headlines in recent months for releasing back-to-back smash hit casting announcements: first came Garfield and Claire Foy (The Crown), then came Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls) and Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), and...

Quick Links Here's Less-Than-Ideal Box Office Numbers Why Did Here Stumble at the Box Office? Hanks and Zemeckis' Box Office History
Tom Hanks is one of the most reliable A-listers in the industry today. The Forrest Gump star's films have grossed nearly $10 billion at the worldwide box office. There was a time when hooking Tom Hanks' name to a project could almost guarantee success. But as times and viewing habits have changed, so have the box office returns for tentpole flicks.
Of course, Hanks is still a recognizable and iconic star. But these days, simply having a figure like him in a movie is no guarantee of success. That's the issue with his latest project, the drama Here. On paper, this movie seems like a sure thing. It stars Hanks and Robin Wright alongside director Robert Zemeckis in a Forrest Gump reunion. So, does it work? Not exactly, as Here...

Hotels are strange, contradictory, but often wonderful places. They are permanent structures primarily designed for temporary lodging. They can offer more luxurious furniture and amenities than you get at home, yet you’ll rarely sleep as well as you do in your own bed. Dreams in hotels tend to be weirder and more vivid — there’s a reason so many of Tony Soprano’s more memorable nightmares either occurred while he was at a hotel, or depicted his unconscious self staying in one — and the setting is evocative enough to...

Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are husband and wife, and despite being married since 2022, the couple still used an intimacy coordinator on the set of the series A Gentleman in Moscow.
McGregor revealed in a recent interview why having an intimacy coordinator on the set was important while filming sex scenes for the series.
“It’s still necessary, because it’s also about the crew, and it’s odd to be naked in front of people, it’s odd to be intimate in front of the camera,” McGregor told Radio Times. “If you were doing a dance scene, you’d have a choreographer. It’s an important part of the work now, because it’s somebody that the director and actors meet in the middle.”
The actor also noted the importance of intimacy coordinators, especially now that his daughters Esther and Clara are also actors.

Glen Close and Emma Stone both bring a unique energy to the character of Cruella de Vil, with Stone showcasing the emotional journey of a young woman finding her identity and Close portraying a seasoned fashion designer who has already established herself. The film Cruella delves into the anti-hero's origin story, exploring her history and allowing for a deeper understanding of her character. The age of the actresses playing Cruella at different points in her life adds to the range and depth of the story. Glen Close's iconic portrayal of Cruella in the 1996 version of 101 Dalmatians contributed greatly to the character's popularity. Emma Stone skillfully builds upon this legacy, embodying a younger version of Cruella with precision and complexity, focusing more on her personal journey than on fur poaching.

Children fashion designer Christine (Eva Green) fights complicated mental health issues after a deadly accident she was responsible for, but never got convicted of, because it happened somewhere else – in a sweatshop in the Philippines. This is of course a wild guess during the first 30 minutes of the film’s runtime, because Christine has no recollection of that particular event, and we build the bigger puzzle along the road that finally does answer all questions except the one about the legal ramifications. She is just presented as someone suffering from a number of symptoms beginning with a (selective) memory loss, quivering and hallucinations to something that makes her wear a Cpap mask at night. With her career on hold, and not much she can analyse without the material to talk about, Christine is a wreck and there is no way denying it. Between different manifestations of the malaise, she...

There are two ways domestic service can go in horror movies: Either the innocent worker is walking into a diabolical trap, or she (it’s almost always a woman) is in fact the smiling angel of death, bringing doom to privileged employers who are oblivious of peril until it’s too late. In Nikyatu Jusu’s “Nanny,” which reaches theaters later this month, we get Scenario No. 1. In Lorcan Finnegan’s new “Nocebo,” about another immigrant laborer hired into a wealthy household, it is No. 2.
Similarly offering somewhat upscale genre fare, this first-ever co-production between Ireland and the Philippines is a diverting if not entirely successful mix of sociopolitical commentary with psychological and supernatural suspense elements, stronger in the realms of directorial style and performance than writing. Rlje Films opens the feature on 115 U.S. screens this Friday, with release to digital and VOD platforms Nov. 22, then niche streamer Shudder’s various territories later on.

Christine’s (Eva Green) perfect life comes crashing down with a phone call on what should be the best day of her professional career. A children’s clothing fashion designer, her latest catwalk is proving an immense success once the buzzing pushes her into the next room to learn horrible news for which we can only hypothesize from the word “bodies.” As shock and horror wipe the smile from her face, she hangs up with a quietly distraught attempt to pretend none of it happened. That’s when Christine spies the blind dog standing in the corner of the room. She watches as it approaches, the masses of ticks covering its flesh made visible in the light. It shakes. A mite burrows into her neck. And everything turns upside-down.
Despite nobody else seeing the dog, a mark is present on the back of Christine’s neck. Are the debilitating shakes,...
