Like everyone else, when I first saw the trailer for Netflix’s “Hot Frosty” — about a snowman who comes to life to charm a single woman in a small town — I groaned and giggled at the same time. It felt like a parody of the cheesy Christmas TV movie genre, the kind of simplistic, home-for-the-holidays fun that Hallmark has long championed and Netflix has successfully showcased to a younger audience over the last handful of years. I figured I’d half-watch at some point while also imbibing in some holiday cheer when doom-scrolling got a little too bleak.

Well.

I finally viewed the 90-minute smash starring Dustin Milligan as the titular Frosty and Lacey Chabert, and while it’s not winning any Emmys, it’s a sweet, surprisingly charming outing that should be able to hold its own entertaining both your parents and any teens in your life this holiday season.

Inherent in any Christmas movie is an element of silliness; it’s just the way of things. More often than not, magic is involved, and highly improbable love stories result in moving halfway across the country and giving up massive paychecks. But this year, Netflix really leaned in on absurdity for their Christmas offerings, and in the end, it helped the stars and creators of the films find the heart of it all.

The streamer has five new original Christmas movies this year, and rolled out one new film every Wednesday beginning in early November. In one, a sexy snowman comes to life and struggles not to melt while also trying to woo the woman who unwittingly brought him to life. In another, a small-town bar needs saving, so the owners’ daughter creates a Christmas-themed all male revue, because what better way to rake in cash?

Lacey Chabert is starring in another Christmas film, this time for Netflix. The actor, best known for her roles in “Mean Girls,” “Party of Five” and over 30 Hallmark films, will lead “Hot Frosty” for the streamer.

The film will also star Dustin Milligan, Joe Lo Truglio (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Craig Robinson (“The Office”), Katy Mixon (“American Housewife”), Lauren Holly (“Dumb and Dumber”) and Chrishell Stause (“Selling Sunset”).

The film’s official logline reads, “Two years after losing her husband, Cathy magically brings a handsome snowman to life! Through his naïveté, the snowman helps Cathy to laugh, feel and love again, as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays…and before he melts.”

Jerry Ciccoritti will direct from a script by Russell Hainline.

Producers include Joel S. Rice and Michael Barbuto for Muse Entertainment, while Aren Prupas and Jonas Prupas will executive produce.

On Thursday, Andrew Walker, and Tyler Hynes went to Instagram to share a post. Tyler wrote, “You asked..so we’re back. Welcome home 3 Wiser Men And A Boy + Coming this holiday season #3WiserMenAndABoy.”

It was merely two years ago that Hallmark fans everywhere discovered the true magic of Christmas when three Hallmark Hunks tapped into their brotherhood for Three Wise Men and a Baby.

A play on Three Men and a Baby, Paul Campbell & Kimberley Sustad created a fun, family Christmas movie starring Campell, Tyler Hynes, and Andrew Walker and brought the theatrical film’s Margaret Colin along for the ride.

The result was pure joy, with a story packed with holiday sentiment, family frustrations, and great love.

Campbell & Sustad and Russell Hainline write the script for the sequel, Three Wiser Men and a Boy, and all four cast members mentioned above are on board, as well.

It’s an early Christmas gift for us all!

What does it mean to be a Hallmark hunk, anyway?

It’s not about looks, although it sure helps that this talented trio is easy on the eyes.

It’s only the beginning of November, but Hallmark Channel has been airing new Christmas movies for weeks and some fans have already chosen a favorite!

The Santa Summit, starring Hunter King and Benjamin Hollingsworth, premiered over the weekend and the film already has a legion of fans… many of whom want a sequel.

The movie follows three teachers at a Santa themed holiday event who are looking to get their groove back and strengthen their friendship, but unexpectedly find love along the way.

The film aired on Hallmark Channel on Sunday night (November 5) and is now streaming on Peacock. There also will be reairings on Hallmark throughout the week.
