José de la Torre, who played Iván in the Spanish-language Netflix drama “Toy Boy,” has died. He was 37.
Spanish publication Montilla Digital was the first to report that the actor died on Dec. 5 after a long battle with an unknown illness. A funeral service was held in Spain the day after his death.
In June, de la Torre revealed he was diagnosed with what he described as a “serious illness” and had stepped away from acting to receive treatment the same month.
De la Torre was part of Netflix’s “Toy Boy” since its debut in 2019. The show ran for 21 episodes across three seasons until 2021. Nothing is simple in Toy Boy, a show about a male stripper wrongly convicted of murder who, along with the help of a young lawyer, attempts to find the real culprit. The problem? There are actually multiple crimes — and multiple murderers — in the first season alone.
As the series unfolds, we discover that twentysomething “toy boy” Hugo Beltrán (Jesús Mosquera) is found on his houseboat with the charred body of Philip Norman (Virgil Mathet), the husband of Hugo’s lover, Macarena Medina (Cristina Castaño). The pair uncovers a conspiracy that involves crooked cops, billionaire business rivals, the Irish mafia, an orgy and an innocent teenager. And the question...
