'Mandharam' review: This romcom has a fun first half, but falters midway
MollywoodWhile the male characters are believable, the women are poorly written.CrisIn a really distant, broad and squinting view, Mandharam might remind you a tad bit of Premam and an even lesser bit of the Hindi film Rockstar. Which essentially means the hero is going through different stages of life, and romances. Sometimes, the simplicity of everyday lines and getting right the senseless conversations between friends can make a script quite enjoyable. That’s what Mandharam does for most of the first half. MollywoodAsif Ali has a slew of films in his kitty right now in different stages of production.Digital NativeDigital NativeActor Asif Ali is fast turning out to be a successful actor in the Malayalam film industry. He has several hit films to his credit including Apoorvaragam, Traffic, Salt N' Pepper, Ordinary, Ozhimuri, Honey Bee, Sapthamashree Thaskaraha, Nirnayakam, Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, and Sunday Holiday. Having proved his mettle as an actor, he made his debut as a producer with Kohinoor which was produced by his home banner Adam's World of Imaagination. He has also won several awards in his long career. In a recent interview to the Times of India, the actor is reported to have expressed his desire to act in Rs 200 crore budget film. He has made it clear that he wants to be a part of a high budget film but there were none offered to him right now. In the interview, he has been quoted as saying, “It might sound clichéd but more than a star I want to grow as an actor. Fortunately, I have had this luck to be able to select films. While I have that option, I decided to choose versatile characters and personally I get a kick out of doing these roles.” Asif Ali went on to add, “I want to do a Rs 200 crore movie too, but as of now I am not part of any.” Will the actor’s wish come true?
