Kim Petras crowns Awe Inspired’s “Queen of the Fairies” collection: jewellery that empowers and reclaims queer femininity
Image
Kim Petras stars in Awe Inspired’s latest collection, redefining queerness with mystical, powerful jewellery that carries a social message.

In a world where labels still try to confine, Kim Petras once again breaks the mould. This time, she does so as the radiant queen of Awe Inspired’s new Pride collection, titled ‘Queen of the Fairies’. But it’s not just about glitter and wings: the collection was born with a clear mission — to reclaim what was once an insult and transform it into a symbol of strength.

Since Jill Johnson founded the brand in 2018, after surviving cancer for the third time, Awe Inspired has had one goal: to empower those who have truly known what it means to resist. And in Kim, they found the perfect muse. A pop icon, a trans woman, and a powerful example of unapologetic self-affirmation, the artist embodies that blend of vulnerability and...

The Voice Recap: Which Singers’ Blind Ambition Got Them Deemed Battle-Ready?
Image
Pitches were made. Blocks were played. Canadian Mounties were brought on stage. But did any of the talent trotted out by Night 3 of The Voice’s Season 27 Blind Auditions live up to the hype? Read on, and we’ll discuss.

Divighn (Team Michael), “I Got You (I Feel Good)” — Grade: B+ | Maybe this grade should be an all-the-way A. Divighn showed us range and flair (those yips!), and his voice never faltered even while putting on a heckuva stage show. But the overall impression the two-chair turn left was “fun” rather than “fantastic.” Maybe, as John Legend was, I was listening for some more “stank.

Inside the ‘SNL50’ Homecoming Concert: 7 Moments Cameras Missed From the 3-Hour Celebration
Image
Heading into “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert,” it was clear that the event was going to be a celebration of all things “Saturday Night Live.” After all, it’s right there in the concert’s name. What’s more surprising is how Peacock’s Friday night concert morphed into a joyous love letter to live TV itself.

Between the scope of its performances, the truly remarkable camerawork and the confidence of an endless roster of comedians who professionally perform live, the concert captured the edge-of-a-knife feeling “SNL” has always elicited while also blowing that feeling up to its most extreme and lavish form.

The performance itself belonged to Lorne Michaels and The Roots, both of whom received so many shoutouts and thank yous, it feels silly to even keep count. But inside the room, the insider audience fought between wanting to go all out and trying to keep its cool...

Is Nicole Kidman’s Kinky Erotic Thriller ‘Babygirl’ a Christmas Movie? ‘Let’s Hope So,’ She Says
Image
Nicole Kidman’s new erotic thriller “Babygirl” not only features holiday scenes, but A24 is releasing the movie on Dec. 25. So does this make the R-rated film a Christmas movie?

“Let’s hope so,” Kidman, who plays a tech company CEO having a kink-filled affair with an intern (Harris Dickinson), told me with a laugh at the film’s premiere Wednesday in Los Angeles. “Somebody thinks it is… A24 is very subversive. They seem to go against the grain always, so maybe [Christmas] is the right time.”

Dickinson weighed in, “It’s absolutely a Christmas movie. I didn’t know it was going to be, but it turned out to be so I’m going with it.”

Halina Reijn, who wrote and directed the movie, said “definitely, as far as I’m concerned.”

“It has Christmas trees, it has Christmas songs. Of course, you can’t take everybody to this movie,...

‘Dancing With the Stars’ Semi-Finals: Here’s Who’s Competing in the Finale
Image
This story contains spoilers for the Nov. 19 episode of “Dancing With the Stars”

In Tuesday night’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars,” each of the five remaining couples performed one ballroom dance and one Latin dance but only four earned enough points and votes to go on to next week’s finale… at least that’s how the show usually works.

Sophie ‘Sophie’ Review: An Uneven Approximation of a Pop Auteur’s Vision
Image
Listening to Sophie’s posthumous self-titled album, which was supposedly nearly complete when she died due to a fall in January 2021, one can’t help but think that the British electronic producer and popsmith could have made most of these songs in her sleep. From the beats that sound like they’re alive, mutating and reformulating in real time, to the metallic or leather-whip percussion, to the sparkly bubblegum-pop—we’ve heard all of this from her before, only better. That’s because what’s glaringly missing from Sophie is the artist who wasn’t afraid to be almost antagonistic, with songs that stopped in the thick of things or piled on a bunch of noises on top of one another in an ear-splitting cacophony.

Sophie offers a watered-down iteration of this approach. It’s Sophie as middling, vaguely futuristic pop producer, not pioneering soundscape architect whose songs just happened to be catchy.

As she reminded people in the initial run-up to her comeback single “Woman’s World,” where she dusted off her six RIAA-bestowed Diamond awards, she’s one of the biggest-selling pop stars of the millennium, with fizzy, playful tracks like “California Gurls” and strident empowerment anthems like “Firework” racking up millions of sales. She’s judged wannabes on American Idol; she’s headlined the Super Bowl halftime show; she’s celebrated a king’s coronation. She’s done it all, backwards and in heels.

Who Katy Perry might be in 2024, though,...

Katy Perry ‘143’ Review: A Mostly Joyless, By-the-Numbers Comeback
Image
Katy Perry seemed poised for a comeback. The singer’s early output has undergone a favorable critical reevaluation of late, and her Video Vanguard performance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards was a reminder that, just a decade ago, she was capable of churning out a seemingly endless stream of radio hits. Perry’s style of maximalist pop, no longer in vogue by the late 2010s, has been experiencing a revival, as evidenced by the breakout success of artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

But such hopes were quickly dashed when Perry dropped “Woman’s World,” a platitude-filled exercise in feminist sloganeering that found her reuniting with longtime collaborator Dr. Luke (she temporarily ceased working with the producer until after his legal dispute with fellow pop singer Kesha was resolved). It didn’t help that TikTokers noticed similarities between Perry’s declarations of “sexy, confident, so intelligent” and...

Jennifer Lopez & Brett Goldstein To Star in Netflix's Office Romance
Image
While Jennifer Lopez's Netflix films might not be well received critically, her latest release, Atlas, has an abysmal score on Rotten Tomatoes, there's no denying she's been a powerful draw on the streaming platform. 2023's The Mother was better received, and it was also another Lopez-led hit for Netflix. Due to the success of those two movies, Netflix appears to be going all in on the actress after securing the rights to the romantic comedy Office Romance starring Lopez and Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein.

According to Deadline, Netflix won the rights to the film in a bidding war with other studios. The movie's script was co-written by Goldstein and Joe Kelly. The bet on Lopez has been a lucrative one for Netflix, as her films are among the most watched on the entire platform. Even if they don't hold good audience or critic scores, it hasn't stopped people from watching them.

Image
Exclusive: Alex Cooper, creator, host, and executive producer of the hit podcast Call Her Daddy, on Tuesday announced dates for the second leg of her “Unwell Tour,” which sold out a run on the East Coast last year.

Produced by Live Nation and Aeg, the tour is set to kick off at the Bellco Theatre in Denver, Co on September 25, with additional stops in Austin, TX; Dallas, TX; Phoenix, Az; San Diego, CA; Oakland, CA; and Los Angeles, where this leg wraps on October 10.

At Cooper’s live variety shows, fans will be treated to interviews and musical performances from surprise celebrity guests. Notables who made appearances over the course of the show’s East Coast run included Kelsea Ballerini, Andy Cohen, Chelsea Handler and Hannah Berner, as well as talent associated with her Unwell Network, including Alix Earle and Harry Jowsey.

Tickets will be available for registered presale starting Thursday, September 5 at 10 a.m. Pst, with general on-sale beginning Friday, September 6 at 10 Am Pst. Tickets can be purchased at the link. View the full list of West Coast tour dates below.

Stated Cooper, “I can’t wait to be back on the road! We had way too much fun on the East Coast, so you know I had to bring the Unwell Tour to the West Coast Daddy Gang. Come with friends or make new ones at the show and get ready for an unforgettable night with even more surprises.”

Recognized as the most listened-to female podcaster in the world, Cooper’s Call Her Daddy amasses millions of listeners per episode as the number one podcast for women on Spotify globally. Closely followed by devoted Gen-z and millennial listeners known as “The Daddy Gang,” the pod also consistently ranked as one of the most popular podcasts on Spotify Wrapped over the course of the last few years. Cooper just recently announced, however, that her podcast deal will move from Spotify to SiriusXM as of next year, with the latter picking up advertising and distribution rights, even as the show remains available across all podcast platforms.

Cooper began to blaze a path through the podcasting medium in 2018 that had never existed before: a space where women were encouraged, empowered, and emboldened to share their unapologetic stories and truths. Conversations on her show are designed to explore a range of topics including life experiences, culture, health, and relationships, all through her lens of comedy and extreme candor. Recent Call Her Daddy guests include Jane Fonda, Post Malone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hailey Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Zayn, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Kim Petras, Shay Mitchell, Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, Brazilian pop superstar Anitta, Madison Beer, Lil Dicky, John Legend, Rebel Wilson, Adam Devine, and Chelsea Handler, among others.

Most recently, Cooper launched media company Trending and its subsidiary, The Unwell Network, a media venture elevating the voices and stories of Gen Z, alongside her partner Kaplan of Ace Entertainment. The Unwell Network’s initial talent signings included top creators and influencers Earle, Madeline Argy, and Jowsey, who are working with Cooper and the Unwell team to develop a variety of multiplatform concepts and projects.

Cooper and Unwell are represented by UTA. Legal representation is handled by Shaun Gordon at Weintraub Tobin and Matt Thompson at Sidley Austin Llp.

Image
A new single from electronic pioneer Sophie’s upcoming posthumous album is here. Titled “Berlin Nightmare,” the track features fellow dance and electronic artist Evita Manji. Stream it below.

The production on “Berlin Nightmare” embraces thick, heavy bass, swampy water sounds, and a drop into an upbeat chorus. As with the rest of Sophie, it was co-produced by Benny Long.

Slated to be the first and only project of its kind, Sophie is due for release on September 27th and was announced in June alongside lead single “Reason Why” featuring Kim Petras and BC Kingdom.

In a statement from Sophie’s family, the forthcoming album was described as one that “moves at an emotional level, encouraging the listener to intuitively embrace the ever-evolving landscape of light and dark, soft and hard, to the end of self-love and joyful self-acceptance.”

“I didn’t wanted to leave you, I didn’t want to fight. Started to cry then remembered — I’m the face of Gucci,” Miley Cyrus cheekily sang during a performance of her hit song “Flowers” at the Gucci Summer Celebration on Thursday.

The star, who is the face of Gucci Flora perfumes, hosted a poolside party with the brand at the Chateau Marmont, making one of her first public appearances since winning two Grammys for “Flowers” in February.

Cyrus danced her way onto the pool deck midway through the event, stopping for photos while jokingly asking her team for suggestions on poses — before grabbing a bottle of the new Gucci Flora Gorgeous Orchid Eau de Parfum as a prop. Sam Smith Lets Go of the Past on ‘Stay With Me’ Tenth Anniversary Re-Recording
Image
While Sam Smith was writing their debut album, In the Lonely Hour, they allowed the identity of each song’s subject to remain mostly ambiguous. The record is essentially gender neutral, barring a moment on the hit single “Stay With Me” where the musician — who now identifies as non-binary — sings: “Guess it’s true, I’m not good at a one-night stand/But I still need love ’cause I’m just a man.” As the record celebrates its 10-year anniversary, Smith is leaving that identifying outlier in the past.
