In an interview, Mau said trans people require safe spaces where “we don’t have to contend with prying questions, judgment, hate, and bigotry that often becomes the focus of our existence.”
The transgender star was speaking to Deadline about her short film All the Words But the One, a 20-minute tale about a trans woman, Maya (Mau), who encounters an ex-lover when her partner, Jio (Shaan Dasani), invites his boss over for dinner.

The 85th Annual Peabody Awards offered a night where truth was the headliner, courage was the theme, and storytelling wasn’t just celebrated—it was revered.
Roy Wood Jr., host of the American adaptation of Have I Got News for You on CNN, emceed this year's award show, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on June 1. "This is a little different from [hosting] the White House Correspondents' Dinner or the Writers Guild Awards,” Wood told Gold Derby before the show. “These people here tonight have told very serious stories about very serious things. I have a degree in journalism, so a night like this is just special to me on a lot of levels."

After announcing its full list of winners last month, the Peabody Awards celebrated those honorees in person Sunday night with a ceremony hosted by Roy Wood Jr. in Los Angeles.
The comedian kicked things off inside the Beverly Wilshire by joking, “Last year’s host was Kumail Nanjiani, so that is back-to-back years with a minority host. The Peabodys standing up for diversity, how about that? Which means in a few months, the White House will cut their funding and so they’ll have John Mulaney, that’s on y’all.”
The event honored 34 winners across entertainment, documentary, news, podcast/radio, arts, children’s
and youth, public service, and interactive and immersive programming, with a focus on storytelling that reflects the social issues and emerging voices of today. Baby Reindeer, Ripley, Shogun and Will & Harper were among the recognized Hollywood projects.

Just over a year ago, Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer landed on Netflix and almost immediately became a cultural phenomenon. The limited series quickly began charting in the top 10 on the streamer, ultimately claiming the #1 slot a week after its debut. Millions streamed the program, including a couple of high-profile customers. Among the series’ most notable supporters is one Stephen King. That’s correct, dear reader, King was such a fan of the show that he penned an op-ed piece for British outlet The Times praising the program’s efficacy.
“So, like 13.3 million other Netflix subscribers, I tried it and found myself sucked in, unable to look away,” King says in his essay. “My first thought was to thank God my novel came first, or people would assume I’d stolen it from Richard Gadd, who wrote and produced the seven-episode series and also stars in it. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented its 2025 TV Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with a wide spectrum of talent recognized across drama, comedy, factual, and children’s programming. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the event was broadcast on BBC One domestically and streamed on BritBox in the United States, continuing the Academy’s emphasis on broad accessibility for international audiences.
This year’s selections showcased both returning series and first-time contenders. Several winners have already seen cultural ripple effects across the UK media landscape. ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office stood out not only for winning Limited Drama but also for earning the Special Award, recognizing ITV’s role in commissioning a project that helped catalyze national discussion. Based on a real-life miscarriage of justice, the series dramatized the experiences of sub-postmasters wrongly accused of theft and fraud, spurring public and political attention.

The British actress has completed what is likely to be a historic TV awards sweep by adding a BAFTA to her collection of prizes for her portrayal of Martha Scott in hit Netflix series Baby Reindeer.
Gunning won Best Supporting Actress at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday, beating competition from five other nominees, including Baby Reindeer co-star Nava Mau.

Mr Bates vs. the Post Office pulled off a victory over Netflix's Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday. The ITV drama that dominated U.K. ratings last year tells the story of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud, and false accounting due to a defective It system.
However, it wasn't all bad news for Baby Reindeer. Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Jessica Gunning continued her impressive awards streak, scoring Best Supporting Actress, and bringing the limited series’ total to three wins, including writing and directing victories from the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 27.
Lennie James beat out the likes of Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer) and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) to win Best Actor for Mr Loverman, in which he plays an exuberant, closeted family man who wants to end his marriage and live with his best friend.

Exclusive: Netflix’s bitter legal fight over Baby Reindeer is expected to gather pace next month as the Richard Gadd series continues to win awards.
Fiona Harvey, a lawyer from Scotland, slapped the world’s biggest streamer with a $170M defamation lawsuit last year after Baby Reindeer became a global sensation and she was identified as the show’s alleged stalker, played by Jessica Gunning.
Harvey claimed that the darkly comic series, which was billed as a “true story,” portrayed her via the Martha character as “a twice-convicted stalker who was sentenced to five years in prison.” Harvey has never been convicted of stalking Gadd and she argued the series was “the biggest lie in television history.”
The case was widely expected to go to trial next week, but a little-reported appeal by Netflix put a halt to proceedings at the Central District of California court.

The last trailer leading up to the fifth and final season of You teases that Joe may actually get what he’s got coming. The two-minute trailer shows his past is definitely catching up with him. And when Joe declares, “At heart, I’m a normal guy,” while inside his cage, fans can only hope he remains in that cage for the remainder of his life.
The final trailer was accompanied by a new batch of season five photos.
Series star Penn Badgley believes the show’s return to New York City, where it all began, is only fitting. “My first memory of stepping into Mooney’s [in Season 1], the space felt big and new, and obviously now it just doesn’t feel that way to me. It’s very familiar, and it feels smaller, and maybe that’s just a metaphor for the whole thing,” said Badgley in an interview with Tudum.

Richard Gadd, the actor and creator of the Netflix dark comedy hit Baby Reindeer, has revealed some details about his upcoming project. The project, in which he co-stars with Jamie Bell, is a "departure" from everything he's done before, but the comedian says that fans should rest assured, as it's "still dark" and totally what you'd expect from him.
Gadd spoke to Collider in the aftermath of the Independent Spirit Awards, where Baby Reindeer managed to win major awards like Best Lead Performance (Gadd), Best Supporting Performance (Nava Mau) and Best Breakthrough Performance (Jessica Gunning) in a New Scripted Series. Amid the excitement, the actor offered some details about Half Man, the new series he's creating for the BBC and HBO:
"Gonna do a musical. [Laughs] No, I'm actually working on the next thing. It's a BBC HBO show called Half Man. I'm doing it right now and yeah, it's a...

Netflix’s second teaser for the fifth and final season of You finds Joe reminiscing about his past. He claims love has tested him more than most and that his is a true rags-to-riches story. Everything’s changed, and now he’s the luckiest guy in New York. But given his past, any happiness won’t last long.
“In the epic fifth and final season, Joe Goldberg returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after… until his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires,” reads Netflix’s synopsis.
And the streamer’s Tudum added this teaser of the final season: “The new season picks up three years after Joe (Penn Badgley) and Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) left London for New York City. Kate is now CEO of the Lockwood Corporation, Joe is her loyal husband who has been dubbed Prince Charming by the adoring public,...

‘You’ Declares Joe the ‘Luckiest Guy in New York’ in Ominous Season 5 Teaser
“You” may be coming to an end, but it’s ending with Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) on top. That’s what the first teaser for Season 5 shows: a sneak peek that ends with Joe calling himself the “luckiest guy in New York.”
True to form for this unsettling drama, not much actually happens in this first look. Joe buttons his shirt and helps his latest victim — er, girlfriend — Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) into her dress. But his internal monologue tells a very different story than the mundane machinations of getting ready.
“Love tests us. I’ve been tested more than most. This is the last time,” Joe says via monologue. “I’ve been through it all —unlucky in life and in love until I met you, Kate. You opened doors for me I never could have imagined. We share a life I would have been quick to judge in the past.

Welcome to the 40th Film Independent Spirit Awards – an experience like no other. In a homecoming of sorts, filmmakers didn’t just arrive to celebrate; they came to quench their thirst for collaboration, community and seriously good cappuccinos, refilling their creative cups and paying homage to a year of indie cinema that soared despite global chaos.
Aidy Sets The Tone
The day kicked off with our host, SNL alum Aidy Bryant, who greeted the crowd and remarked, “40 is the new 20!” Though the show has officially entered middle age, it has no plans of slowing anytime soon. “I saw a lot of your old asses get sad when TikTok got banned,...

Richard Gadd may be earning quite a few awards for his breakout Netflix series “Baby Reindeer,” but he’s not holding onto many.
“I tend to give most of them out to people, if you can believe that,” he told me Saturday at the Independent Spirit Awards, where he took home the prize for best lead in a new scripted series.
“I never want to reveal where they are in case people break into the house because some of them are obviously very valuable now, but [mom has] got a few, I’ll put it that way,” he said. “I think I’ve got about two awards in my house. I think I’ve got one of the three Emmys and I think I’ve got an Olivier.”
When gifting the awards, he tells the lucky recipients, “Thanks for everything you’ve done for me. I’m here and I’m alive because of you.
