Toronto Film Festival gala presentation “Thank You for Coming” is that rarity – a Bollywood sex comedy that also serves as a patriarch-bashing women empowerment tale.

Bhumi Pednekar stars as Kanika Kapoor, a Delhi food blogger and serial monogamist, who has spent her adult life seeking a satisfying love match, both emotionally and physically, but has never had an orgasm. The morning after her engagement to a dull suitor, she wakes up satisfied, but can’t remember who’s responsible.

The upcoming film ‘Thank You For Coming’, which stars Bhumi Pednekar, has been selected for its world premiere at the soon-to-be-held edition of the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is a coming of age comedy directed by Karan Boolani and written by Radhika Anand and Prashasti Singh.

There were a total of 40 projects touted during today’s showcase, some of which were previously announced, such as the Alfonso Cuaron-exec produced feature The Disciple, which as Deadline revealed Netflix took world rights on following the movie’s premiere at Venice last year.

Also on the slate are: the series Bombay Begins from Endemol Shine India, Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment; the relationship drama Ajeeb Daastaans, from directors Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan and Kayoze Irani; the feature Pagglait from Umesh Bist; and Reliance Entertainment’s Bulbul Tarang.

Get ready to laugh, Los Angeles: Netflix’s comedy brand, Netflix Is a Joke, will host a week-long comedy festival starting in April.

Entitled “Netflix Is a Joke Fest,” the festival will take place across over 20 venues in Los Angeles, including the Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theatre, Hollywood Palladium and The Largo, between April 27 and May 3. Produced by Netflix in association with Live Nation, it will feature some of the best in today’s standup performing, as well as paying homage to comedy legends.
