For the last four years, Danielle Pinnock has been a ghost — and she couldn't be happier. As one of the large, spirited cast of CBS's Ghosts, Pinnock plays former Prohibition-era jazz singer Alberta, who died on New Year's Eve 1928 after accidentally drinking poisoned moonshine. But in Pinnock's hands, Alberta's living her very best afterlife as the show wraps up its fourth season and looks forward to the now-guaranteed two seasons more ahead.

Ghosts was one of many shows pushed back due to this summer’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, with its third season now premiering on February 15, 2024. But the good news? Production is almost back up and running. Danielle Pinnock, who plays 1920s Prohibition-era jazz singer Alberta on the hit CBS sitcom, revealed the news at the red carpet premiere for her new Amazon MGM holiday film, Candy Cane Lane. “We start shooting on Saturday. I fly down to Montreal. We’re going back, baby!” Pinnock told Deadline. “We did a table read — those scripts are good!” She also shared that Season 3 is expected to shoot “only ten episodes this season,” as opposed to the lengthier first two seasons (18 episodes for Season 1 and 22 episodes for Season 2). Shucked, a best musical nominee at last season’s Tony Awards, will end its run at the Nederlander Theatre on Jan. 13.

However, the show’s producing team, led by Mike Bosner, is looking to move to another Broadway theater, if one becomes available after that date. That may be a tough proposition, given the many spring shows that have already been announced or are waiting in the wings.

The musical already has a North American tour in Fall 2024, as well as a planned London production at a Cameron Mackintosh theater in Winter 2024 and in Sydney in Spring 2026.

Shucked opened at the Nederlander Theatre on April 4, and was met with largely positive reviews. The show was nominated for nine Tony Awards and won one, for Alex Newell as best featured actor in a musical, Newell, along with J. Harrison Ghee in Some Like It Hot, became the first openly nonbinary actors to win Tony Awards.

“This season was really important for me as an actor,” reflects Danielle Pinnock about working on Season 2 of “Ghosts” in our recent webchat. She continues, “I had a lot of imposter syndrome for season 1. This was my first time being a series regular, and I was a replacement. I was wondering whether I’m good enough to do this. Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally offer a succinct exploration of the agonies and joys of the heart in “Maybe Love,” the first taste of their upcoming Broadway musical, Shucked. The show begins previews on March 8 at the Nederlander Theatre in New York.

“Maybe Love” bears some hallmarks of Clark and McAnally’s award-winning country songwriting pedigrees in its arrangement, consisting of a wistful piano part and two voices that play off each other. Clark sings of love’s frustrations and endurance and how it has to be nurtured to survive.

Producers Mike Bosner and Jason Owen announced today that Shucked, a new original musical comedy with a book by Tony winner Robert Horn (Tootsie) and music by Nashville’s hit songwriting team Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally will open on Broadway this spring.

Shucked will begin previews at the Nederlander Theatre on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 for a Tuesday, April 4 opening night.

The musical comedy will star John Behlmann (Tootsie), Kevin Cahoon (The Who’s Tommy), Andrew Durand (Head Over Heels), Caroline Innerbichler (Frozen North American Tour), Ashley D. Kelley (Bella: An American Tall Tale), and Alex Newell (Once On This Island). Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

The production is directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien with choreography by Sarah O’Gleby, and music supervision, music direction, orchestrations, and arrangements by Tony Award nominee Jason Howland.

Clark and McAnally collectively have earned three Grammy Awards and 18 Grammy nominations.

NBC has opted not to move forward with its comedy pilot “Hungry,” which originally starred Demi Lovato who pulled out of the project and was replaced by “Modern Family” star Ariel Winter, Variety has learned.

Updated, 8:58 Am: Chavez Ravine is getting Fluffier. After becoming the first comic to sell out Dodger Stadium in its 60-year history, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias has added a second show at the yard. The newly set “Fluffy on the Field” show is set for Friday, May 6, but this one only will have seating on the field for a more intimate experience.

As with May 7 show that was announced last week, this one also is part of Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival and will be recorded for the Mr. Iglesias alum’s third Netflix special, which will premiere this year.

Valerie Bertinelli is set as a lead opposite Demi Lovato in NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot Hungry, starring and executive produced by Lovato. The casting marks Bertinelli’s first series regular role since her six-season run on TV Land’s hit sitcom Hot In Cleveland. Hungry comes from Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s Hazy Mills, Sb Projects and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Written and executive produced by Suzanne Martin, Hungry follows a group of friends who belong to a food-issues group helping one another as they look for love, success and the perfect thing in the fridge that’s going to make it all better.

Valerie Bertinelli is eyeing a return to sitcoms as a series regular in NBC’s Hungry, the Demi Lovato-fronted comedy pilot about a group of friends with food issues, TVLine has learned.

Described as a “warm, loving, self-critical and emotional mess of a woman who has lost and gained the same 30 pounds for 30 years,” Lisa (Bertinelli) considers her daughter Teddy (Lovato) to be her best friend. And as a restaurant owner, “she is constantly thinking about and serving people food.”

Kevin James’ new Netflix comedy “Home Team,” inspired by the life of NFL head coach Sean Payton, has drafted the rest of its cast.

Taylor Lautner and Tait Blum (“For All Mankind”) are among the actors rounding out the lineup of the new family comedy, which is loosely inspired by the longtime New Orleans Saints’ coach’s experience coaching his son’s amateur youth football team during his year-long suspension from the league. Blum will play Payton’s son Connor in the project, which is currently in production.

Rounding out the film’s cast are Rob Schneider, Jackie Sandler, Gary Valentine, Maxwell Simkins, Jacob Perez, Bryant Tardy, Manny Magnus, Liam Kyle, Christopher Farrar, Merek Mastrov, Isaiah Mustafa, Christopher Titone, Ashley D. Netflix has unveiled the cast roaster for Home Team, a family comedy loosely inspired by New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton’s experiences during his year-long suspension from the league. It was previously reported that Kevin James would play Payton in the film, which hails from Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison and James’ Hey Eddie Productions banner.

“Home Team,” a Netflix film that stars Kevin James as New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, has announced its full cast, including new additions Taylor Lautner and Rob Schneider.

Payton revealed that Netflix was making a movie about his life last month, and the film centers on Payton in 2012 when the coach was suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goddell for the entire 2012 season related to the team’s role in the “Bountygate” scandal, in which the team was accused of paying out bounties or bonuses to players who successfully injured opposing team players. The film shows how Payton began to reassess his life and took a job as the offensive coach for his son Connor’s sixth-grade football team in the Dallas area.
