Silver Lining Entertainment Dissolving: Jeff Golenberg & Jason Shapiro Launch Strand Entertainment, Sam Maydew Starts 734 Media
Image
Exclusive: After more than a decade, Silver Lining Entertainment, the management and production company founded by veterans Jeff Golenberg and Sam Maydew, is dissolving.

Golenberg and fellow Silver Lining partner Jason Shapiro have launched Strand Entertainment, a management and production company based in Los Angeles, bringing most of Silver Lining’s managers with them. Maydew has formed his own management/production company, 734 Media. The split we hear was amicable, with the former partners’ paths diverging, a process accelerated by the pandemic.

Joining Golenberg and Shapiro in their new venture are longtime colleagues Tarik Kanafani, Emily Rifanburg, Kaelyn Hutchins, and Aileen Lewis. Jeff’s brother, manager/producer Rob Golenberg, who was a partner at Silver Lining, has formed GoGi Entertainment, a new production company focused on international productions, with his former assistant Paulina Giron Velasquez. He also plans to continue to work alongside the Strand principals and their joint production entity,...

Bosch & Rockit review – a sentimental and cheesy Byron Bay drama
Luke Hemsworth
Luke Hemsworth and Rasmus King aren’t to blame for the problems in this film, about a surfing drug dealer and his son who are forced to move after a bushfire

Having amassed bad debts and upset the wrong people, a protagonist with a habit of making poor decisions goes on the run and relocates to a small town, hoping to start afresh – until the past inevitably catches up. This evergreen story trajectory is once again rehashed, in Tyler Atkins’ cloying and sometimes flat-out cheesy film Bosch & Rockit. Opening with the words “inspired by true events”, Atkins goes on to demonstrate why these words tend to mean very little: a well-crafted, entirely fictitious feature can feel much more plausible than a goofily executed one – like Bosch & Rockit – claiming some connection to reality.

Early in the runtime the titular father (Bosch) and son (Rockit), played by Luke Hemsworth and Rasmus King,...

Paramount+ Music Movie ‘6 Festivals’ Heads for Theatrical Release
Image
“6 Festivals,” a music drama film that marks the first Australian feature movie to be commissioned by Paramount+, is to get a local theatrical release.

The picture will have a limited theatrical release in Australia through Bonsai Films from Aug. 11, 2022. Global accessibility on Paramount+ will follow at an unspecified date later in the year.

Parent company, ViacomCBS also owns Australian linear network Channel 10. Together they gave the Paramount+ platform a local launch last August by including 10’s pre-existing streaming offering, 10 All Access.

“6 Festivals” was written by Sean Nash, Macario De Souza and Lou Sanz and directed by de Souza (“Bra Boys”), who also works as recording artist Kid Mac.

Daniel Johns of Silverchair to release 'honest and fantastical' autobiographical film – trailer
Rasmus King
Rasmus King plays teenage rockstar Daniel in What If the Future Never Happened, an upcoming 30-minute film based on the life of Daniel Johns, co-written and co-produced by Daniel's brother Heath. Soundtracked by Daniel Johns's latest album FutureNever, and interspersed with orchestral reinterpretations of his Silverchair classics, the musician says it is 'inspired by the pop culture I was immersed in before a curious case of child stardom. It’s at once the most honest and most fantastical thing I’ve ever done.'

The genre-bending film is set in regional Australia in 1994, 'mere months before a teenage rockstar called Daniel (Rasmus King) would conquer the global music world'. While escaping bullies, Daniel meets a mysterious figure from the future who 'will change Daniel’s Tomorrow forever'. With a release date to be announced, a feature-length sequel is already in pre-production. Daniel Johns is due in court on 22 June, after...

Savannah La Rain set to make waves in ‘Bosch and Rockit’, ‘Surviving Summer’
Image
When it comes to filming back-to-back projects, one could do worse than swapping out Byron Bay for the Great Ocean Road.

Such was the scenario for young actress Savannah La Rain, who went from shooting Tyler Atkins’ debut feature Bosch and Rockit with Luke Hemsworth in the second half of 2020 to riding waves in regional Victoria earlier this year for upcoming Netflix young adult series Surviving Summer.

The 16-year-old told If the transition was a case of art imitating life.

“I loved how could just tell the vibe [with Surviving Summer] was so Australian with the surfing and the lingo,” she said.

“Having just come from Byron, where I had been experiencing the surf culture, it was very cool to see it in a television show and it felt very relatable.

“I could just tell it was something so special that I wanted to be a part of.”

The roles signal...
