William “Bill” Finn, the acclaimed writer and composer of the 1992 musical Falsettos and 2005’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, died Monday, April 7, following a lengthy illness. He was 73.

His death was confirmed to Deadline by his literary agent Ron Gwiazda.

Born February 28, 1952, in Natick, Massachusetts, and raised in a conservative Jewish household, Finn was a two-time Tony Award winner – Best Book and Best Original Score for the AIDS-themed Falsettos. He began crafting what would become his signature work even before the plague years began. In the late 1970s he wrote the one-act Off Off Broadway musical In Trousers, focusing on a gay man named Marvin coming to terms with his homosexuality.

Elle Mills‘ first short film has been picked up by content creator-focused studio/distribution platform Creator+.

Mills—a longtime YouTuber with 1.75 million subscribers—raised almost 24,000 on IndieGoGo to produce Reply, which she describes as “Ferris Bueller + Parent Trap + 13 Going on 30 + Wes Anderson but gay?”

The short film follows 15-year-old Sam (Anthony Rosenthal), who finds a box of tapes documenting his mother Casey’s (Ciara Riley Wilson) last summer at her childhood home—which was also the summer an intriguing new neighbor Hayden (Ava Capri) moved in next door.

“‘Reply‘ was very much a passion project—it’s a love letter to my high school self and the film I wish I had growing up,” Mills said in a statement. “Getting to work with Creator+ to finally release this into the world has been a dream come true experience.”

Most of the 38-member cast of the upcoming Broadway production of Tom Stoppard’s Olivier Award-winning Leopoldstadt was announced today, with four members of the original West End company making the move and newcomers to the show set to include Caissie Levy, Brandon Uranowitz, Seth Numrich and David Krumholtz.

Twenty-three of the cast members announced today will be making their Broadway debuts with Leopoldstadt, according to producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Roy Furman, and Lorne Michaels. Patrick Marber, who directed the West End staging, will direct for Broadway as well.

Leopoldstadt’s limited Broadway engagement will begin previews Wednesday, September 14, with an official opening on Sunday, October 2, at the Longacre Theatre.
