Baby Don't Cry Trailer Introduces Lonely Protagonist Who Finds Tortured Love

Two years after its festival premiere, Baby Don't Cry is finally releasing digitally on October 17. Directed by Jesse Dvorak, it follows Baby, a Chinese immigrant, as she navigates a troubled home and finds an unexpected adventure with a delinquent named Fox. The movie explores themes of cultural displacement and the isolation that comes with coming of age. It delves into Baby's dreams of becoming a filmmaker, her complex relationship with her mother, and the memories of her late father.

Two years after first premiering at Fantasia International Film Festival, Baby Don't Cry is finally coming to digital release. Directed by Jesse Dvorak (Lost Angeles), it stars Zita Bai, who also wrote the screenplay. Bal plays the titular Baby, a withdrawn 17-year-old Chinese immigrant who comes from a troubled home that only grows more difficult after the passing of her father.

If a movie’s description has ‘coming-of-age’ written in it, I will nearly always be giving it a watch. And as you’ve probably guessed, that was exactly what I read about Baby, Don’t Cry. The Fantasia website also mentioned John Hughes so I couldn’t not watch it.

But Baby, Don’t Cry is a very different kind of coming-of-age story. It’s both strange and fantastical, and gritty and harsh. Blending all kinds of emotions and styles into one twisted story. Written by its lead actor Zita Bai who plays Baby, a seventeen year old girl living on the outskirts of Seattle.
