The annual awards show – which recognizes major athletic achievements, relive unforgettable moments, honor leading athletes, and more – took place on Wednesday night (July 16) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with host Shane Gillis.

Following the event, Simone Biles, the Philadelphia Eagles, and Saquon Barkley were among the big winners.

Also during the event, Sloane Stephens was honored with the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award while Penn State University women’s volleyball head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance.

As Disney gears up for its annual upfront presentation, global advertising president Rita Ferro told TheWrap there’s been a lot of scenario planning in response to the economic disruption created by President Trump’s tariff policy.

“There’s still a lot of uncertainty in terms of what actually will be the impact of tariffs across certain industries or categories,” Ferro said. “It’s very much business as usual right now while we plan for a future of uncertainty.”

One model under consideration from a retail-sector client involves splitting the impact of tariffs up into thirds among them, consumers and whoever sources their product, Ferro said. Disney+ is offering up plenty of great things to watch on Christmas Day!

The streamer just announced the full lineup of programming on December 25 for subscribers, including live programs, new Originals and holiday favorites.

The day will bring five live NBA games and an animated Dunk the Halls alt-cast, available to all Disney+ subscribers, marking the first time NBA games have been available to stream on service.

There will also be a Doctor Who Christmas Special, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Episode 5, and Episode 4 of the new season of Marvel Animation’s What If…?.

Disney+ will also stream the annual Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade, plus beloved holiday favorites like Home Alone and The Santa Clause.

The NBA has a problem. When the playoffs expanded to include a play-in game, making it so 20 of 30 teams make the postseason, the league had further de-emphasized the importance of its 82-game regular season. While the two months of NBA playoffs are some of the most dramatic must-watch TV of the year, it’s the six months of regular season live-event programming that is the league’s bread-and-butter when it comes to ticket sales and TV revenue.

Last season, in an effort to create some in-season excitement, the league created an in-season tournament, the second edition of which was rebranded the Emirates NBA Cup and tipped off last week with group play before eight teams advance to the knockout round on December 10-17. The in-season tourney is, objectively, a meaningless competition. Each game still just counts as a regular season win or loss, and winning the Cup carries no competitive advantage to the winning team.

Production is underway on Celtics City, a multipart documentary series on the 18-time NBA champion Boston Celtics from HBO Sports Documentaries and 30 for 30 co-creators Bill Simmons and Connor Schell. Directed by Emmy winner Lauren Stowell, the series will premiere on HBO and will stream on Max in 2025.

Celtics City chronicles the history, cultural impact and extraordinary tale of the NBA’s winningest and most storied franchise, the Boston Celtics, the reigning NBA champions. The series contains extensive, never-before-seen archives and more than 80 interviews of past and present Boston Celtics legends – from Bob Cousy and Larry Bird to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Produced by HBO Sports Documentaries, Ringer Films and Words + Pictures, the series will reunite exec producers Simmons and Schell for the first time since they created the iconic 30 for 30 series.

Amid a pullback in TV spending, unscripted production companies Fulwell 73, behind Hulu reality hit “The Kardashians,” and SpringHill Co., founded by NBA superstar LeBron James and Maverick Carter, are in talks to combine forces.

The companies have been discussing a potential merger for several months, two sources confirmed to Variety. Execs at both companies see the tie-up as a merger of equals, not one party acquiring the other. The teams at SpringHill and Fulwell 73, whose partners include James Corden, are looking at what’s happening in the media and entertainment sector and believe that consolidation would create a stronger entity rather than leaving each separately, one source said.
