Sex Education's Season 4 Change Already Set Up The Perfect Spinoff
Image
Sex Education season 4 set up the perfect spinoff with a new setting and cast, highlighting the potential for the Cavendish College location. The move to Cavendish in the last season was a risky decision but paid off, allowing for the introduction of new characters and further growth of the Sex Education universe. For a Cavendish College spinoff to work, it would need an all-new cast to avoid undoing the series finale's attempts to wrap up the original characters' storylines.

Sex Education might have come to an end with season 4, but the change in its last season already set up the perfect spinoff. The Netflix comedy had a vast, diverse ensemble, and the fourth and final season switched things up further. The regular students at Moordale High found themselves with no school, and they enrolled in Cavendish Sixth Form College in the final chapter of the story, resulting in some new...

The True Meaning Of Sex Education Explained By Show's Creator
Image
The article contains spoilers for Sex Education season 4.

Despite its title, Sex Education is ultimately about friendship and community, rather than just sex, according to creator Laurie Nunn. The show uses sex as a means to explore human connection and intimacy, with sex stories serving as a context for deeper emotional moments. The relationships between characters, particularly Otis and his friends, form the heart of the series, creating a valuable community that extends beyond sexual issues.

Sex Education creator explains that the Netflix series has a deeper meaning than the title suggests. Released in September, season 4 marked the conclusion of the hit show starring Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, and Ncuti Gatwa. Over the course of four seasons, Butterfield's timid character Otis Milburn attempts to strike up and maintain a sex counseling clinic at his school based on knowledge gained from his mother Jean's (Gillian Anderson) profession as a sex therapist.

Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, and Emma Mackey in Sex Education (2019)
Netflix has released the final trailer for the final season of ‘Sex Education,’ inviting viewers to a sneak peek of what’s to come as the series reaches its climax.

Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier – their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students – they thought they were progressive but this new college is another level.

There’s daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being… kind?! Viv is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach, while Jackson is still struggling to get over Cal. Aimee tries something new by taking an Art A-Level and Adam grapples with...

Sex Education Season 4 Review: A Worthy End To One Of Netflix’s Best Shows
Image
Sex Education season 4 continues the show's legacy of inclusivity and tackles a wide range of social and sexual issues with its bold, in-your-face approach. The new setting at Cavendish Sixth Form College allows the show to explore the flaws and challenges of radical inclusivity while emphasizing the importance of kindness and empathy. The characters in Sex Education season 4 experience hardships and trauma, but find solace in the support and acceptance of others, showcasing the healing power of kindness and community.

Editor’s note: This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being covered here wouldn't exist.

In this period of hyper-awareness of the precarity of streaming programming, it was a relief to learn that Sex Education, which I consider among the best of Netflix's original shows, got the chance to end on its own terms.

‘Sex Education’ Season 4 Review: Netflix Dramedy Delivers Messy but Satisfying Ending
Image
We’ve come a long way since the start of “Sex Education,” when we were all rooting for (or at least commiserating with) Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), the Netflix dramedy’s awkward, anxious and slightly dysfunctional hero. Four years later, we’re saying goodbye to the show’s high school student-turned-amateur sex therapist and his brilliant sex therapist mother, Dr. Jean Milburn (played by the incomparable Gillian Anderson), along with a lengthy cast of characters we’ve all grown to love.

In this final season, we get to see each character develop into the people we’ve wanted them to become. And in a sense, it seems like some end up outshining Otis, making it feel like perhaps he was never really the hero of this story, but rather an entry point into the interwoven lives of the diverse residents of the fictional town of Moordale.

But first, some bad...

Sex Education Season 3 Recap: 10 Things To Remember Before Watching Season 4
Image
Sex Education season 4 will be the show's last, giving the writers only eight episodes to wrap up every character's storyline. Maeve and Otis finally became a couple in season 3, but Maeve left for the United States for a study program. Aimee broke up with Steve, Otis and Ruby dated briefly, and Adam forgave Eric for cheating, but they still broke up. Moordale Secondary School shut down, and Jackson and Cal broke up.

Sex Education is unfortunately ending after season 4, meaning that the writers only have eight episodes left to wrap up every character's storyline. The Netflix comedy-drama television series premiered in January 2019, and it was an immediate hit, thanks to the show's unapologetic writing, masterful performances from its stars, colorful and dynamic cinematography, and realistic depiction of what it is like to be a teenager with raging hormones. Every season that followed added to the rich storytelling of the first one,...

‘Sex Education’ Trailer: Otis Struggles to Send Nudes to Maeve in Final Season of Netflix Series
Image
Netflix has debuted the trailer for the fourth and final season of its hit coming-of-age series “Sex Education,” complete with the tagline, “Get your tissues ready, let’s finish together.”

The British comedy continues to follow the journey of teen sex therapist Otis Millburn (Asa Butterfield) and his friends as they attend a new school with an entirely different culture than they’re accustomed to, while Otis’s love interest Maeve (Emma Mackey) has moved to the United States for college. The eight-episode final season will release on Netflix on Sept. 21, with a supersized, 83-minute series finale.

The first scene of the trailer shows Otis and Maeve adjusting to the distance between them. When Maeve sends Otis a nude photo, Otis is unsure about sending one in return. Other storylines explored in the new season include Otis’ realization that he isn’t the only sex therapist at his new school,...

Sex Education season 4 trailer will do anything for love
Image
It’s coming. It’s coming. It’s about to climax. The fourth and final season of the hit Netflix raunchy comedy Sex Education is set to premiere later this month. And as part of the foreplay, Netflix has released a new trailer for the British show that stars Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey and Gillian Anderson. Set to the tune of Meatloaf’s popular (and meme-able) hit “I Would Do Anything For Love,” the season 4 trailer is light on plot elements and heavy on emotion. The series celebrates its curtain call by cheekily telling fans to “break out the tissues.”

The trailer has been released by Netflix and the official season 4 synopsis reads,

Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier – their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again.

‘Sex Education’ Trailer Teases Tissue-Filled Final Season Journey
Image
Netflix wants fans of its British teen comedy Sex Education to “finish together” in the trailer for the show’s final season.

The two-and-a-half minute first look at the fourth season teases a busy farewell to the series, which helped catapult or bolster the careers of current and former stars, including Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Simone Ashley and Asa Butterfield. Set to the Meat Loaf classic “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” the trailer sees Butterfield’s Otis and Mackey’s Maeve grappling with the intricacies — including well-shot nudes — of a long distance relationship as she attends the prestigious U.S. school, Wallace University.

Gatwa’s Eric can also be seen realizing his anxieties over how he and Otis not being losers again may be overblown as he further embraces himself, and encourages other Moordale Secondary classmates to as well. And at home, Gillian Anderson...

Image
Netflix released first-look images for “Sex Education” Season 4 on Wednesday, as the final episodes of the acclaimed series are set to debut on Sept. 21.

Academic overachiever Viv (Chinenye) finds the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach bewildering. Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling) still holds heartbreak over Cal (Dua Saleh), and Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) takes...

Sex Education Ending With Season 4 Avoids 3 Major Problems That Would Have Ruined The Netflix Series
Image
Sex Education ending with season 4 is great news given how the show will now be able to avoid 3 issues that could have ruined it. As Sex Education season 4's details confirm, the show will ensue a few months after the events of season 3's ending. Maeve will be in America, while the rest of the primary characters from The Moordale Secondary will start at a new school called Cavendish College. Unlike Moordale, this new school will be progressive, welcoming them and their quirkiness with open arms. However, the environment of their new school will bring a new set of challenges as they will find themselves feeling invisible in its woke crowd.

As the story details suggest, Sex Education season 4 will mark the return of several characters, including Otis (Asa Butterfield), Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), Maeve (Emma Mackey), Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood), Cal (Dua Saleh), Ruby (Mimi Keene), Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling), and Viv (Chinenye Ezeudu). ‘Sex Education’ Season 4 Preview: Teaser, Photos, Cast and Plot Details

Netflix’s first teaser trailer for the upcoming fourth season of Sex Education was accompanied by bad news for the show’s fans. Season four will be the show’s final season.

‘Sex Education’ To End With Season 4 On Netflix — Watch The Teaser
Image
Class won’t be in session for much longer on Netflix’s Sex Education.

The series will end with Season 4, which is set for September 21, the streamer announced on Wednesday.

In a teaser for the new season, which was also released on Wednesday, Asa Butterfield’s Otis Milburn doesn’t appear to be any more eloquent with his words than he was when he began his journey as a sex therapist at Moordale Secondary.

“Thinking about sex comes very naturally, because I learned everything I know about sex from my mom,” he tells a crowd of college students, much to their horror.

Watch the full teaser above.

Back for Season 4 alongside Butterfield are Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood, Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Mimi Keene, George Robinson, Chinenye Ezeudu, Dua Saleh, Alistair Petrie, Samantha Spiro, Jim Howick, Rakhee Thakrar and Daniel Ings.

This year’s scaled-down, “special one-year iteration” of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff) will open on August 18 with the world premiere of Silent Roar, the debut feature from Scottish writer and director Johnny Barrington.

Caught up in grief, he is brought to his senses by his rebellious crush Sas, a high achiever who dreams of escaping the island. When an oddly-behaved new minister arrives on the island, Dondo begins to have cosmic visions.

Pic was shot in the surroundings of Uig, on the Isle of Lewis, and draws inspiration from Barrington’s teenage years on the Isle of Skye. Chris Young (The Inbetweeners Movie) produced the film, with Screen Scotland,...

Sex Education S4 Has An Opportunity To Revisit Its Most Powerful Storyline
Image
This article contains discussion of self-harm.

Sex Education deals with some difficult topics, and season 4 has the chance to revisit one of its most powerful storylines. Sex Education mainly focuses on awkward high-schooler-slash-sex-therapist Otis (Asa Butterfield) and the many sexual problems his school peers face. Alongside Maeve (Emma Mackey), Otis runs an underground sex clinic that provides funny and heartfelt moments as the other students deal with their personal issues. Sex Education has managed to expand this to deal with more serious issues such as gender, race, mental health, and wealth divides. Season 2 in particular expanded on these issues and showed popular jock, Jackson (Kedar Williams-Sterling) struggling with mental health and self-harm.

Season 3 of Sex Education put more focus on Otis and Maeve’s relationship and has ended with Maeve leaving for America. With numerous Sex Education cast members leaving due to their expanding careers, it is uncertain how long the Netflix show will continue.

Sex Education Star Emma Mackey Says Season 4 Will Be Her Last
Image
Netflix's "Sex Education" is what you might call an incubator for young talent. The zany, inventive high school dramedy boasts one of the most talented casts on television today, and watching their stars rise these past four years has been immeasurably heart-warming. One of the most exciting "Sex Education" breakouts has to be Emma Mackey, who's been making a steady transition from streaming to film with roles in "Death on the Nile" and Greta Gerwig's "Barbie." She's also the latest actor to take home the Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs, so it's safe to say she's got a bright future ahead of her. Sadly though, it seems like "Sex Education" won't be a part of that future for Mackey.

The actor fielded questions about "Sex Education" — and whether she'd be returning for a fifth season — during the BAFTAs. "Season 5? I've just finished the fourth one last week!

Sex Education has lost another cast member.

The hit Netflix series lost many stars ahead of production on the fourth season.

But, with production completed, more cast members are announcing they won't be back for a potential fifth season.

Emma Mackey revealed to RadioTimes Sunday after winning the BAFTA Award for Rising Star that her time on the series was over.

"Season 5? I've just finished the fourth one last week!" Mackey explained, adding the following:

"No, I don't think I'll be in season 5. I've said goodbye to Maeve."

The actress previously teased that she wouldn't be as prominent in the fourth season.

"It feels very familiar! And it's a bit more sporadic because we have more characters. So there's… I'm not in it as consistently," Mackey said.

"But we're in the middle of filming now, and I'm excited to be back," she added at the time.

"And yeah, I'm intrigued...
