DC just redesigned two classic Batman villains in truly horrifying fashion
Image
So far, Scott Snyder’s Absolute Batman has provided readers with multiple villains from Earth-Prime. Some of them, Harvey Dent (Two-Face), Ozzie (Penguin), Eddie (Riddler), Waylon Jones (Killer Croc), and Selina Kyle (Catwoman), are Bruce Wayne’s friends and not exactly like their Prime-Earth counterparts. Others, Mr. Freeze (who’s the child of Victor Fries), Bane, Black Mask, and The Joker, have all been given upgrades in either wealth, power, skills, or all of the above. Knowing that there’s more of this universe to come, it’s easy to guess more changes will be made and new antagonists to be introduced.

In Absolute Batman No. 8, Waylon was captured by the workers of Ark-m. Previews of issue No. 12 have shown that Waylon has been turned into Killer Croc. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Because, while Bruce is trying to find his friend and escape from Ark-m (Bruce is captured in issue No.

13 comic book characters who would totally run a Squid Game competition
Image
What if comic book characters held their own Squid Game? Would they give out prizes at the end, or would it conclude with disappointment and (worse) death? For example, the Viltrumites' contest would be a challenge of strength, with the prize being the ability to continue living. With that in mind, here are ten comic book characters who would (for better or worse) run a Squid Game competition.

Aaron Taylor Johnson in Columbia Pictures and Marvel Kraven The Hunter Kraven the Hunter

Kraven would make this a tournament to see who’s worthy to fight him, but mask this as something for money. This would probably infuriate the winner. Depending on who won determines if this works in Kraven's or his opponent's favor.

28 Years Later, This Portrayal of a Classic Batman Villain is Still the Best Thing About 1 of DC's Worst Films
Image
Quick LinksPoison Ivy Is One of the Few Bright Spots of Batman & RobinWhy Uma Thurman Was the Perfect Choice to Play Poison IvyUma Thurman Has No Regrets About Starring in Batman & Robin

Batman & Robin is often considered to be one of DC’s worst films, but years later, some fans have warmed up to it, seeing it as an attempt to try and recapture the campiness of the '60s Adam West era in a more modern setting. Many of the actors, including George Clooney, have since apologized for participating in the film, and it was obvious that many of them didn’t know how to handle Joel Schumacher's more lighthearted take on the material. When it comes to Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, on the other hand, it’s a much different story. Watching it now, it's clear just how much fun she’s having in the role,...

Every Arrowverse Pilot Episode, Ranked
Image
The Arrowverse made a huge mark on the superhero landscape. Everything started with Arrow in 2012, The CW and Greg Berlanti took a risk by introducing a different kind of hero, whose dark actions were questionable but the instant fan connection wasn't. They capitalized on Arrow's popularity by making shows like The Flash and Supergirl.

At its height, the Arrowverse had six live-action television shows running on The CW. Each year they would run huge crossover events that garnered massive amounts of interest, even from superhero fans who didn't consistently watch all the shows. However, the Arrowverse shows had to start from somewhere, which is why pilot episodes are extremely important to get right.

Will Poison Ivy Ever Get Her Live-Action Justice in the Dceu?
Image
The Dceu has seen success as recently as 2022 with Matt Reeves' The Batman, considered one of the greatest DC projects to date, with many fans and critics comparing it to the ultimate DC film - The Dark Knight. The DC Comics extended world seems to have hit a rough patch with Black Adam and The Flash bombing. Add in the complete scrapping of The Batwoman movie, and one might think that the live-action DC cinematic universe may not have much room to grow.

However, DC still has plenty of characters they can help bring to the screen, and considering the one property that always seems to deliver and attract fans consistently is Batman, there is one particular DC anti-heroine to 'The Bat' that deserves her red rose on the big screen; Poison Ivy. There have been some spectacular performances by DC villains in the past decade. Yet, Poison Ivy's character...

Karen Gillan Becomes Poison Ivy in Dcu Fan Art
Image
There are many Karen Gillan fans who want to see the Guardians of the Galaxy star taking on the role of Poison Ivy in the Dcu, and fan art imagines what she might look like in the part.

On Instagram, the digital artist bfhdesign shared an image of Gillan transformed into Poison Ivy, complete with the greenish eyes and tint to her skin. The artist noted how the image was made partly in response to Gillan publicly expressing her interest in playing the plant-loving supervillain. As of now, it's unclear if and when Poison Ivy will be showing up in the Dcu, but with such convincing fan art, Gillan's name needs to be a part of that casting conversation.

Which Characters Could Gal Gadot Play in the New Dcu?
Image
It's fair to say that Gal Gadot's work as Wonder Woman was a cornerstone of the Dceu from the moment she made her first appearance as the superhero in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since then, a further three outings in Zack Snyder's Justice League and in Patty Jenkins' excellent Wonder Woman and the sequel Wonder Woman 1984 confirmed Gadot's status as one of the Dceu's biggest hitters.

Update July 7, 2023: This article has been updated by Valerie Parker with even more roles Gal Gadot could fill in the upcoming Dcu.

However, a third Wonder Woman film has been confirmed to be dead in the water after the 2022 leadership changes at DC Studios, which saw James Gunn and Peter Safran take over the Dcu and develop a ten-year plan that would include a massive reboot of the franchise. While Gadot did appear as Wonder Woman in cameo roles for both Shazam!

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's Relationship, Explained
Image
Recognized as two of the most popular female Batman villains, the fiendish pair of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy is more than just Gotham City Sirens. Their friendship has transpired into something more through both the canon of the comics and an extension of other DC-owned media. Fans were eager to "ship" them — or imagine Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy in a relationship — and DC Comics quickly caught on. The duo of evil-doers was never intended to end up as romantic partners at all, but ultimately their shared disdain for the patriarchal rule of society fed into a relationship on the outskirts of the mainstream. Their affinity for one another is complex, which makes the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy an unlikely but oddly fulfilling one.

Findley Davidson Exits As Warner Bros. TV New York Head Of Casting, Launches Her Own Company
Image
Veteran Warner Bros. Television casting executive Findley Davidson has departed the studio after 15 years, most recently as head of New York casting. She has launched her own, New York-based independent casting office, Findley Davidson Casting, which will offer casting services for film, television, and theatre.

Davidson, who joined Wbtv in 2008, was made VP and head of the studio’s New York casting office in 2019, following the retirement of VP Meg Simon after a 40-year career. I hear Wbtv will maintain some casting presence in New York though it is not expected to be at the level of the past. The studio’s parent Warner Bros. Discovery has been in a cost-cutting mode post-merger, and casting is one of the areas where the company has scaled back, including the elimination of the HBO Max casting department in favor of adopting HBO’s model that involves using casting directors on individual shows.

The “Riverdale” star, 28, seemingly confirmed her romance with “Música” co-star Rudy Mancuso, 30, in a “life update” Instagram post, as per Mendes’ caption.

Mancuso seems to appear in two images of the actress’ seven-photo carousel — one in which the fellow Brazilian actor is seen sitting on the floor playing with Mendes’ dog Truffle, and the other, a selfie of the supposed couple taken in the reflection of a glass door. Review: Batwoman: The Complete Third Season
Image
From the outset, the CW’s Batwoman series was one of the better offerings, thanks to a strong visual sensibility and a winning performance from Rachel Skarsten as the damaged Alice. And like every other Arrowverse show, it threatened to suffer from character bloat by the end of its second season. Thankfully, supernumerary characters and plot points were jettisoned and Javicia Leslie, as Ryan Wilder, made Batwoman her own character after Ruby Rose’s departure.

Season three, therefore, offered a lot of promise and across thirteen episodes we saw the show flirt with good, solid storytelling, too often succumbing to mind-numbing plot holes and illogic. It suffered from being hampered by the idiotic notion that Circe could waltz into the Batcave and make off with Batman’s greatest rogue weapons, all neatly fitting into a duffel bag.

We open with Renee Montoya (Victoria Cartagena) blackmailing Batwoman and Alice into tracking...

Batwoman Canceled After Three Seasons at The CW
Javicia Leslie in Batwoman (2019)
The CW is parting ways with one of its superhero dramas.

The network has officially canceled Batwoman after three seasons.

Showrunner Caroline Dries took to social media to reveal the news.

"Just got the sad news that #Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes," Dries wrote.

"So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew."

"Thank you, fans! We love you."

Batwoman Season 3 averaged 458,000 viewers and a 0.09 rating in live + same day results, with the number swelling to 760,000 viewers with a week of DVR factored in.

In live + same day ratings, the series ranks #9 out of the 16 scripted series the network aired this season.

‘Batwoman’ Canceled After Three Seasons at CW
Image
“Batwoman” has been canceled at The CW after three seasons.

What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”

“Batwoman” began airing on The CW in 2019, albeit with a different lead actress. Ruby Rose originally starred in the series, but exited after the first season. She later claimed that unsafe working conditions led to her exit, as well as issues with co-star Dougray Scott.

Javicia Leslie was then brought in as a new character to take over the mantle of Batwoman. The show also starred Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Victoria Cartagena, Robin Givens, and Nick Creegan.

‘Batwoman 3×13: We Having Fun Yet?’ Review
Image
Stars: Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott | Created by Caroline Dries

The season 3 finale of Batwoman is finally here and if you think it arrived quicker this season than in prior seasons, you are correct! The series only had 13 episodes this season and while I enjoy Batwoman, the less episodes allowed the writers to focus on a stronger and more concise storyline. Let’s see if the finale can end the season on a high note!

What Happened This Week? It’s the Joker’s fault, right?

The season finale starts with a montage we have seen several times already, the Joker taking over the school bus and using the joy buzzer on a young Marquis, supposedly setting him down the path to darkness. What is new in this montage is the Joker revealing his master plan to Marquis on how he will destroy Gotham with nuclear waste,...

‘Batwoman 3×12: We’re All Mad Here’ Review
Image
Stars: Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott | Created by Caroline Dries

This week’s episode is the setup for next week’s season finale, yes, it’s already season finale time! The first half of the season was extremely strong while the second half has struggled recently to remain focus, especially since they shipped Renee and Poison Ivy off to an island, as they have not gone “all in” with Marquis as the main villain. Last episode helped that situation, but can this episode fix the problem with the new Joker?

What Happened This Week? Alice is Normal Again… Right?

Alice, after using the Joker’s joy buzzer, declares herself “normal” again and the psychiatric hearing for Alice/Beth agrees, so just like that, she is a free woman. So those prior crimes are forgiven? I am not sure the justice system works like...

‘Batwoman’ Boss Breaks Down That Finale & Possible ‘World Change’ to Come
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Batwoman Season 3 Finale, “We Having Fun Yet?”.] While the Dark Knight may be rising back in the box office this week, it was Batwoman who saved the day in March 2’s fantastically designed Season 3 finale, “We Having Fun Yet?” The hour brought the slow-burn, Joker-inspired arc to an explosive close as Ryan (Javicia Leslie) battled her own brother Marquis Jet (Nick Creegan) before he could acid-wash the entire city. The CW Before that blimp-set showdown, the Bat Team worked together like never before and we loved it. Sophie (Meagan Tandy) and Mary (Nicole Kang) regained access to the Batcave to snag a certain umbrella that could help their cause, Luke (Camrus Johnson) sacrificed the last link to his father for the greater good and Alice (Rachel Skarsten), of all people, came through with a suitably unhinged plan to slip Ryan the Joker’s joy buzzer in order to zap her...

The city of Gotham is again in the “hate” stage of their love/hate relationship with Batwoman as they blame her for the recent upswing in crime. ‘Batwoman’ Star Camrus Johnson Previews His Directorial Debut: ‘This Is the Perfect Script For Me’ (Exclusive Video)
Camrus Johnson
Camrus Johnson may have officially suited up as Batwing on “Batwoman” last year, but this week, he’s wearing both his super suit and his director’s cap. And he’s pretty sure he couldn’t have gotten a better episode to start with.

The 11th episode of Season 3, titled “Broken Toys,” sees the return of Marquis Jet (Nick Creegan), back to full health thanks to Poison Ivy’s antics last week — and he’s ready to destroy Batwoman and her crew. You can watch an exclusive sneak peek of his return in the video above.

Between directing Gotham’s new age Joker, Batwoman herself (and all her family drama), and Mary Hamilton (Nicole Kang) — who is back to her normal self and grappling with what she’s done — we had to ask: is there anything Johnson didn’t get to do in his directorial debut?

“Juggle. That’s about it,...

‘Batwoman 3×10: Toxic’ Review
Image
Stars: Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott | Created by Caroline Dries

This season Batwoman has harvested Batman’s Rogue Gallery to increase the threat to Gotham by having copycats of famous villains running amok in the city. With Renee following her heart more than her head, we now have two versions of Poison Ivy in Gotham, but can the original and new and improved version co-exist? Let’s find out.

What Happened This Week? Two is Not Better Than One

Batwoman usually has several storylines in each episode, but this week’s episode revolved only around Pamela’s thirst for revenge and how Team Batwoman must stop her from opening a dam to unleash a tidal wave on Gotham. Before we get to that, let’s talk about Mary and how her allegiance changes based on who is paying attention to her that week.

‘Batwoman 3×09: Meet Your Maker’ Review
Image
Stars: Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott | Created by Caroline Dries

Batwoman delivers a more focused episode this week and while a hike in the creepy woods is not usually a good idea for a cast of characters, it did make for an enjoyable episode. Let’s get to it!

What Happened This Week? Back to Her Roots

Even though Renee Montoya brought Pamela Isley, aka the original Poison Ivy, back to life last episode, Pamela has no desire to become a “good guy” and walk off into the sunset with Renee. Pamela is back to murdering citizens of Gotham that she feels are harming the environment including murdering workers on an oil tanker as well as two fishermen that did not properly “catch and release” fish at a lake. Renee tries to talk Pamela back (again!) from the edge of being a murderer,...

The titular character on The CW’s new DC comic-book adaptation Naomi doesn’t need superpowers to be popular or cool. As viewers saw in Tuesday’s premiere, all Naomi has to do is bop into parties and do a skateboard trick or two before school, and she’s greeted with cheers and dap.

In fact, her newfound abilities actually seemed to cramp her style, make her dizzy and open up a whole new world of questions she wasn’t ready to ask or answer. The revelation began shortly after the high schooler abruptly left debate club to chase a...

After last week’s horror-themed episode with Professor Pyg, this week’s Batwoman episode dives into the transformation of Mary Hamilton into supervillain Poison Ivy and we see the return of Batwing by Batwoman’s side. Plus, we finally have Renee Montoya play an integral part in an episode as well as the most underused character in Batwoman, Sophie!

What Happened This Week? The Rise of Poison Ivy

Detective Montoya is called to Robinson Park in Gotham where a man, Chris, is entombed in a swarm of bees, honeycombs, and vines. Renee thinks the victim may be related to Poison Ivy and tells the ambulance to take him to see Mary. Is Mary on the police payroll now? I feel like this is not protocol and the victim should probably be going to...

If the 2001 Disney Channel original movie Motocrossed means anything to you (and it should!), you’re going to appreciate Friday’s episode of Nancy Drew on a whole other level.

“The Gambit of the Tangled Souls” (The CW, 9/8c) turns Nancy’s world upside down when her dads essentially revert to their teenage selves, resulting in one of Riley Smith‘s favorite episodes of television he’s ever done in his career.
