Executive produced and narrated by Mark Harmon, Origins begins in 1991, years before the events of NCIS, and chronicles Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ younger years. In the prequel, Gibbs (Austin Stowell) starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling Nis Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).

Two big stars from the NCIS universe will be appearing on the Monday, April 15 episode of NCIS for the franchise’s 1,000th episode.

The two stars will not appear “in person” alongside the NCIS team, but the appearances will “nonetheless be quite fun,” TVLine reports.

Director Leon Vance’s son Jared, to be played by Spence Moore II, will also appear, TVLine also reports.

NCIS co-showrunner David North told the outlet: “One of our own beloved characters is going to end up in grave danger, and you’re go to see all of the different franchises brought into this in a little bit of a different way.”

Deadline reported that the Scottish actor died Monday morning of natural causes surrounded by family at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

"For over 20 years, David McCallum endeared himself to audiences around the world playing the wise, quirky, and sometimes enigmatic Dr. Donald 'Ducky' Mallard," said current NCIS exec producers Seven D. Binder and David North in a statement.

"But as much as his fans may have loved him, those who worked side by side with David loved him that much more."

Sad news to report as it was announced that David McCallum died this morning at New York Presbyterian Hospital at the age of 90. The actor was best known for playing Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS, as well as Ilya Kuryakin on The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

He was the kindest, coolest, most patient and loving father. He always put family before self. He looked forward to any chance to connect with his grandchildren, and had a unique bond with each of them. He and his youngest grandson, Whit, 9, could often be found in the corner of a room at family parties having deep philosophical conversations.

The actor passed away peacefully Monday morning of natural causes surrounded by family at New York Presbyterian Hospital, CBS said in a statement.

Son Peter McCallum remembered him as “the kindest, coolest, most patient and loving father” and as a true renaissance man.” Added Peter, “He was fascinated by science and culture and would turn those passions into knowledge. For example, he was capable of conducting a symphony orchestra and (if needed) could actually perform an autopsy, based on his decades-long studies for his role on ‘NCIS.'”

David McCallum, the Scottish actor who portrayed the enigmatic Russian-born U.S. secret agent Illya Kuryakin on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and the chief medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS, died Monday. He was 90.

McCallum died of natural causes surrounded by family at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, a spokesperson for CBS announced.

McCallum also starred opposite Joanna Lumley for four seasons on the 1979-82 British sci-fi series Sapphire & Steel (she was Sapphire, he was Steel) — a show many see as a precursor to The X-Files — and played a British prisoner of war on the acclaimed 1972-74 BBC drama Colditz.

McCallum was married to British actress Jill Ireland from May 1957 until she left him for brawny actor Charles Bronson a decade later. McCallum rebounded quite nicely, though, quickly marrying model Katherine Carpenter in 1967, and his wife of 56 years survives him.

CBS will celebrate the 20th anniversary of “NCIS” this month, the network announced Thursday.

“NCIS Day,” which will be observed on Monday, Sept. 25, will pay homage to the fan-favorite procedural that has aired 459 episodes to date two days after the anniversary of its Sept. 23, 2003 launch. With the upcoming 21st installment of season, the “NCIS” franchise will hit 1,000 episodes.

During the celebration, a mini marathon of “NCIS” will run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. featuring the first “NCIS” episode and its original cast, the Season 2 finale and a notable Season 19 episode featuring the series’ current cast. CBS will also air a sneak peek of upcoming spinoff “NCIS: Sydney,” which will premiere Nov. 13 on CBS as the franchise’s first international iteration.

Additionally, the network will debut several social media features surrounding the series, including the show’s Bandium app, which was introduced in Season 19 by Gary Cole’s Special Agent Alden Parker.

Teri Polo has been cast in “NCIS” as the ex-wife of Gary Cole’s character Alden Parker. She’ll play Vivian Kolchak, a former FBI agent who now works as a paranormal investigator for the Defense Department, in the Season 19 finale, a rep for CBS confirmed to TheWrap on Thursday.

She will also appear in the first episode of Season 20.

Cole joined the long-running procedural in the sixth episode of the current season following the surprise exit of original cast member Mark Harmon.

“NCIS” currently stars Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law and Rocky Carroll. David McCallum, who plays fan-favorite Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, is now recurring.

It also has picked up its top freshman drama NCIS: Hawai’i for a second season and, as it approaches its 300th episode, NCIS: Los Angeles for a 14th season.

The three dramas join CBS’ previously announced renewals of The Amazing Race, Bob ♥ Abishola, CSI: Vegas, Ghosts, The Neighborhood, Secret Celebrity Renovation, Survivor, Tough As Nails and Young Sheldon. CBS’ venerable drama series NCIS is adding two new series regular cast members for the upcoming 19th season, Gary Cole and Katrina Law.

Cole will play a new character, FBI Special Agent Alden Park. Law plays Special Agent Jessica Knight. She was introduced in the last two episodes of Season 18 as a recurring guest star with an option to become a series regular if the show got renewed, which it did. Knight is a formidable React (Regional Enforcement Action Capabilities Training Team) agent who specializes in hostage negotiations and handles daily high-risk operations with skill and precision. Sharp, athletic and tough, she is fiercely tenacious and with a wry sense of humor.

Details about Cole’s character, Special Agent Park, are not being released. He is not replacing Mark Harmon’s Special Agent Gibbs though Cole is expected to help fill the void left by Harmon’s reduced on-screen presence next season.

Exclusive: CBS has put in development The Trail, a one-hour drama from writer David Harrington Miller (Rosewood); Wilmer Valderrama and his Wv Entertainment; and CBS Television Studios, where Wv is under a deal.

Written by Miller, The Trail revolves around an elite unit of investigators within the U.S. National Park Service who work to solve the highest-profile cases in Yosemite National Park, a location known for its rare beauty and extraordinary danger.

Valderrama executive produces via Wv Entertainment with David North (NCIS). Miller is Supervising Producer. Jonathan Tucker is Co-Executive Producer. Kaitlin Saltzman, Wv Entertainment’s VP, Head of Scripted, also is attached as Co-Executive Producer. CBS Television Studios produces in association with Wv Entertainment.

Miller was a writer on Fox’s Rosewood. Before that 2015-17 series, he was a writers’ assistant on Netflix’s House of Cards.
