Enid Strict, better known as The Church Lady, practically had to return to Saturday Night Live in the December 7 episode. After all, 2024 was, in her appraisal, “the most satanic year in history.” The cold open marked the first time Dana Carvey has reprised the role of Enid since 2016, though the SNL alum has been a regular presence in Season 50, serving as the NBC show’s President Joe Biden. “Instead of Mother Mary, little girls are looking up to the Hawk Tuah Girl,” Enid began. “Everywhere you look, you’ve got 11-year-olds dressing up like that vixen Sabrina Carpenter. Do you know who was the best carpenter? Jesus. [Singing to the tune of ‘Espresso’] He’s working late ’cause he’s a savior.” Enid then took aim at multiple political figures who were brought on as guests. As she kicked off her “Church Chat” talk show on Saturday, Enid welcomed former U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz, played by Sarah Sherman,...

Netflix is always on the search for their next mega-hit like Stranger Things or Squid Game. While nobody thought that Wednesday was going to take over the world, the series managed to be a cultural touchstone. Jenna Ortega became the idol of a new generation of Goths.
The second season of the show is expected to come out soon, and the series just started production with a look at Wednesday herself and her colorful “best friend” Enid.
Wednesday Season 2 Starts Production
Netflix posted this on their socials:

We’ve got our first peek at Wednesday Season 2 that hints at the fun to expect when the dark comedy returns!
One of the biggest hits of 2022, Wednesday was a dream combination: Director Tim Burton taking on The Addams Family. Jenna Ortega played the title role of Wednesday Addams, the budding sociopath who, after a wild “prank” at her school, is sent to Westmoreland Academy, home to various supernatural beings.
As she navigates the school and a love triangle she could care less about, Wednesday starts investigating a series of murders leading to a dark conspiracy. The show was a huge critical hit with Ortega breaking out into stardom with moments like the now iconic dance number. Obviously, a second season was ordered, although it was delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes and Ortega’s now busier schedule. Thankfully, it’s coming at last with Netflix offering a sneak peek...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” now streaming on Netflix in the U.S. and BBC iPlayer in the U.K.
Emma Myers is best known for playing sidekick Enid in “Wednesday” but in “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” the actor is front and center as teenage super sleuth Pip Fitz-Amobi. She also sports a British accent for the first time, which, Myers tells Variety, she managed to master in just two short weeks.
Ahead of the show debuting on Netflix, Myers sat down to talk about on-set injuries, differences between the book and the show and how Pip is more like her than any character Myers has previously played.
How worried were you about doing a British accent?
Yeah, honestly, I was very hesitant to take the role because the time from signing on to starting to film was only two weeks.

My standard complaint about the Black Hammer comics is that they’re mostly static, locked into an initial premise that wasn’t all that exciting to begin with. I suppose that’s in distinction to “real” superhero comics, which rely on the façade of change – someone is always dying, someone’s costume is always changing, someone is always making a heel-face turn, and worlds are inevitably always living and dying so that nothing will ever be the same – but it’s not self-reflective enough to count as irony.
But some kinds of stories aren’t supposed to change anything – the whole point is that they don’t, and can’t, change the things we already know. Jam comics by entirely different creators tend to fall into that bucket: they’re sometimes “real” and sometimes not, but even if they’re canonical, they don’t push the canon in any direction.

“Wednesday’s child is full of woe.”
When Charles Addams was helping turn his amusing gothic New Yorker cartoons into a television series, the little girl needed a name, and he used a line from an old-time children’s poem. He’d been at the drawing board with these characters since 1938, although Gomez and Morticia’s daughter didn’t arrive until 1944. At different times, she was older or younger than her sibling, Pugsley.
Ever since her arrival, Wednesday has been a fixture, her pale skin, pig-tailed black hair, and solemn expression imprinted on future generations of Goth girls. From Lisa Loring to Christina Ricci, the live-action look has endured as the character has aged from her purported six years old in the original series pilot to 18 in the 2010 Broadway musical adaptation.

Thora Birch has been performing in Hollywood since she was just a tiny tyke, famously playing Dani Dennison in the cult Halloween classic "Hocus Pocus," where she becomes the target of the malevolent Sanderson sisters. But although one of her most memorable roles came in 1993, when she was just 11 years old, that was far from the end of her career as an actress. Birch has continued to work in the industry, lending her talents to television series, films, music videos, and even podcasts over the years.
Birch's career has been defined by a few standout performances in films that captured the imaginations of audiences everywhere, but one of the most inspiring aspects of her time in Hollywood is that whenever she has been in danger of being completely subsumed by these larger-than-life roles, she shifts gears, navigating a career as a performer on her own terms. It's been almost a full year since the first season of "Wednesday" arrived on Netflix, starring Jenna Ortega's sardonic goth teenage student-turned-detective version of the "Addams Family" character. But since the show premiered after Halloween, it looks like Netflix wanted to wait until it was prime time for the creepy and kooky character to begin a proper merchandise push from the usual suspects like Funko and Loungefly.
While we wait for a second season of "Wednesday" to come to fruition, a small collection of Funko POPs and Loungefly bags and accessories inspired by Wednesday Addams have been released. Not only has Jenna Ortega and her black striped ensemble been brought to life in collectible figurine and mini backpack form, but her unlikely friend and polar opposite, Enid Sinclair, has been given a Funko Pop too. Check out the new "Wednesday" collection from Funko and Loungefly below.

This story about “Wednesday” costume designer Colleen Atwood first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
When Colleen Atwood was a child, her parents had a Charles Addams sketch hanging on a wall in their home. So when the four-time Oscar winner was hired to design the costumes for Netflix’s “Wednesday,” she was well acquainted with the world of the amusingly macabre clan that Addams first created in comic strip form in 1938.
For Atwood, the challenge was to honor that legacy while bringing Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday and Pugsley Addams (plus Thing!) into the 21st century.
“My vision for the costumes was a contemporary connectivity feeling, for young people to see the Addams family as people, as opposed to cartoonish,” she said.

Curated by the IndieWire Crafts team, Craft Considerations is a platform for filmmakers to talk about recent work we believe is worthy of awards consideration. In partnership with Netflix, for this edition, we look at how production design, costume design, and visual effects of “Wednesday” all came together to build a world worthy of Wednesday Addams.

It would be interesting to watch how the story unfolds from here.

The most recent episode of And Just Like That… brought the return of icy but beloved Enid Frick, Carrie Bradshaw’s Vogue editor. The famed character first appeared in the tail end of Sex and the City. Two years after Sex and the City wrapped, Meryl Streep took on the role of Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. Fans quickly noticed the similarities between the two characters, both appearing to have been based on the real-life Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. The fourth episode of season 2, “Alive!,” just revealed that Enid and Miranda have something else in common; they live in the same house.
Enid Frick and Miranda Priestly seem to be based on the same person
When Carrie Bradshaw was hired as a freelancer for Vogue, she came face-to-face with one of her toughest critics. Enid Frick, the editor of Vogue, didn’t find Carrie Bradshaw charming or cute.

Spoiler alert! If you haven’t seen season 2, episode 4 of “And Just Like That”, proceed with caution.
Is “And Just Like That” finally hitting its stride? The “Sex and the City” reboot is four episodes into its sophomore season, and Thursday’s episode proved to be its best yet.
With Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) back in New York City, the original gang, including Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis), and honorary member Anthony Marantino (Mario Cantone), is able to meet up for lunch for some gossip and dirty talk, just like the old days.
There are quips about Miranda’s new fluid lifestyle with Anthony calling her “Rachel Maddow.” There are not-so-subtle euphemisms on Charlotte’s part — mayo, confetti, and a finale of fireworks (Happy July 4th!), no less — and at the heart of it, there’s the friendships fans of the original “Sex and the City...

This story about the production design of “Wednesday” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Creepy. Kooky. Spooky. Ooky. All of these adjectives are naturally in play when you’re adapting a spinoff series of “The Addams Family” — even more so when Tim Burton is your boss. For “Wednesday” production designer Mark Scruton, that made him as happy as Wednesday Addams witnessing a torture chamber.
“When I got this gig, I very consciously did not watch any of [the past adaptations],” Scruton said. “I did go back to the Charles Addams cartoons very specifically, but we wanted to take it back to that original core look and aesthetic. Tim responds to his heart and he’s a minimalist and likes things very precise and composed, rather than lots of background fluff, so it was a great jumping-off point for us.”

Wednesday showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar remember vividly the unusual circumstances of their first conversation with Tim Burton. The filmmaker, who they hoped they could convince to join their show, was piping in from a garden full of “life-size” dinosaur models at his U.K. home. “He was wandering around his dinosaur garden talking to us on FaceTime about his love of Wednesday Addams, and the idea that the script spoke to him in terms of being the ultimate outsider,” remembers Millar of this virtual meeting in 2020 with Burton. Just a week before, the duo were doubtful Burton would even meet with them. They had already written the entire season with the help of a pandemic-era virtual writers room, but wanted Burton’s expertise and special touches. “We were told by everyone, ‘Tim’s never done television. We don’t even know if he’ll read it,’ ” recalls Gough.

For Cruel Summer Season 2, many of the same elements from Cruel Summer Season 1 returned. Like the color grading through the years, the computer intro (which I'm calling the "archive"), and the time jumping.
These aspects worked before, so I'm glad they weren't dropped for the new story. These pieces make Cruel Summer feel like Cruel Summer.

Christina Ricci came to fame at just 10 years of age when she took on the role of Wednesday Addams in 1991’s “The Addams Family.” She gave the character a deadpan aura and the actress is still best-known for this sardonic wit. Ricci reprised the role in 1993’s “Addams Family Values,” where she solidified her take on the character, who was 12-13 years old in the movies, as the defining one. Three decades later, she returned to the world of “The Addams Family” in Netflix’s “Wednesday “— but not as Wednesday Addams.
Instead, that role went to Jenna Ortega, who is re-defining the character, now age 16, with her uber-popular performance. The comedy series sees Wednesday enrolling at Nevermore Academy. Ricci plays Marilyn Thornhill — Nevermore Academy’s science teacher and Wednesday’s dorm mother. At first, it seemed like Marilyn would be a neat little cameo-like role for Ricci that would satisfy fans of the original movies.

Slasher: Ripper follows a mysterious serial killer in 19th-century Toronto amidst other violent acts committed by the people of the city. But “Widow,” as the killer is dubbed by Enid Jenkins, the town’s journalist, isn’t killing random people; everything relates to a particular event that took place 12 years ago. Young Detective Kenneth is right on target in his search for the Widow, but his boss isn’t keen on finding out who is after his city because he may have been involved in the crime that went down 12 years ago. Slasher is definitely for pure indulgence, as every episode ends or begins with a grisly death that the viewer looks forward to; sometimes, it almost feels like an overacted play.

Emmys: Netflix Kicks Off Campaign Season with ‘Wednesday’ Stunt, Relocates ‘FYSee Space’ (Exclusive)
Netflix, perennially a key player in the Emmy race, is launching its 2023 Emmy campaigns on Wednesday with a, well, Wednesday-themed stunt.
Indeed, many voters and tastemakers will receive a hump-day visit — and hand-delivery of goodies — from a trio associated with the streamer’s hit comedy series: “Lurch,” the Addams family’s butler, who will be driving a class black 1930s hearse; “Wednesday Addams,” the titular teenager with psychic powers; and “Thing,” the sentient disembodied hand.
Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, Netflix will — for the fifth year in a row, but for the first year at Red Studios at 846 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in Los Angeles — welcome TV Academy members to an elaborate “FYSee Space” at which it will showcase activations and host star-studded panels and performances in promotion of its numerous Emmy hopefuls. The FYSee Space will be open from Friday, May 5 through Friday, May 26.

In episode 1 of “Slasher: Ripper,” we saw that a woman in a black veil was going around killing men who might have been involved in a murder 12 years earlier. She is ruthless in her killings and has left a subtle note in the first one of her murders to warn the perpetrators of the said murders. A detective named Kenneth is slowly but surely getting on the “widow’s” trail (as she is dubbed by the local journalist). On the other hand, the Botticelli household has a new sister in town, but she is being treated as an intruder and punished for sins she did not commit by her elder sisters. A man named Basil Garvey looks to be at the center of it all, with many enemies. Will this power-hungry man face his enemies soon?

Just like no man, no character lives on an island.
Rabbit Hole's John Weir has many people in his orbit, including a feisty FBI Agent, Jo Madi (Enid Graham), who is always one step behind him, a bad guy who is one step ahead called The Intern, or just Kyle (Walt Klink), and the man John is trying to protect, even if he doesn't know it yet, Edward Homm (Rob Yang).
We caught a little time with them on a recent press day to see if they could shed some light on their characters, among other things. Take a look!
Let's start with you, Rob, because you're alive. Yay!
Rob: Yay. I made it through. I thought it was going to be a spoiler. I thought for sure that they would not want to include me in any of this because then you know that I'd survive.
No, but...

“Rabbit Hole” stars Kiefer Sutherland as a corporate espionage consultant who must go on the run after being framed for murder by a shadowy but powerful group, a character that is used to being on the receiving end of punches, quite unlike the character he’s best known for on “24.”
The Paramount+ series pairs Sutherland with “Crazy, Stupid Love,” “This is Us” and “WeCrashed” writer-directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra. When they pitched him on a series that’s a throwback to ’70s conspiracy thrillers “Three Days of the Condor” and “Marathon Man” and “The Parallax View,” he was fully on board. “I’m so lucky that they called me first,” Sutherland told TheWrap ahead of the series premiere on March 26.
“24” fans will be pleased to see the actor back in thriller territory, but his “Rabbit Hole” character John Weir is very different from Jack Bauer. For one thing, it...
