Abira Harvey

Abira Niye Harvey is an Australian actress, dancer, singer, and artist. She has performed in musicals such as 'Pirates of Penzance' - as the General's daughter, 'Annie' - as an orphan girl (alongside Amanda Muggleton and Rodney Dobson), 'Popstars the Musical' - as Ambre Shu, 'Beauty and the Beast' - as a spoon and a wolf, 'West Side Story' - as the tomboy lead role Anybodys, featured dancer in 'The Little Mermaid'. She also performed the role of Goldilocks in the pantomime 'Twas the week after Christmas', Cinderella in 'Cinderella', and a fairy named Web and a Mechanical in Shakespeare's 'A Midusmmer Night's Dream'. Abira studied musical theatre and drama with Brent Street Performing Arts, Mcdonald College of Performing Arts, National Institute of Dramatic Arts, and Stage and Song Studios, achieving an A Honours in her IMEB Musical Theatre exam in 2018.
Abira moved to Sydney from Queensland with her family when she was 3 years of age and started her interest in dance. She has trained extensively in various dance forms including tap, hip-hop, contemporary, pointe, and classical ballet, receiving the highest marks for her RAD classical ballet exam at Tanya Brooks Dance Academy in 2017, alongside her studies with Brent Street. Abira has also trained in circus and aerial skills with Aerialize and Circus Akimbo, and pole dancing with the Pole Dance Academy.
Vocally, Abira was trained selectively in the 'Talent Development Project', has performed at 'Sydney Children's Festival Choir' at Carriageworks, as selected soloist for community fairs, at 'Sydney Town Hall Music Festival' whilst training with the Vocal Enrichment Group at Epping Heights Public School and Cheltenham Girl's Highschool Junior Choir, and the Vocal Ensemble Group at Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School. Abira also performed regularly with St John's Singers, Beecroft. Abira discovered guitar and music production in 2016 and has released 3x global singles (idkwhere.com). Abira received vocal training from Christine Beasley Singing Studio, Stage and Song Studios, Brent Street, and Northern District Guitar and Vocal Studio.
Abira has also enjoyed success in the creative arts, with her very first public art hanging 'The Wave, The Wind' awarded 1st prize in the Liverpool City Art Prize, 2009 at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. She has continued as a prolific painter and creator to gain various 1st prizes in the prestigious Sydney Royal Arts and Crafts competition in 2013 and 2017, alongside prizes in other creative pursuits such as puppetry, woodwork, sewing, and crochet exhibited with the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW 2013-2019. As special guest, Abira was featured to represent NSW youth artists in the Royal Adelaide Show's 175th Anniversary in 2014, and at SHH Centre for Hybrid Arts as a public speaker about her passion for creative arts in 2015. Abira has been honoured with Most Outstanding, Highly Commended and Commended awards for Art on Loftus in 2012, 2015 and 2017 for sculpture and art, and 2nd Prize in Hornsby's Young Artist's Exhibition in 2018. In 2016, Abira won the Archibald Prize for Cheltenham Girl's High School, and her art contribution was acknowledged by Epping Heights Public School awarding her 'Excellence in the Arts' in 2014, and the McDonald College of Performing Arts awarding her the Education Award for Creative Arts in 2010. Abira was tutored by renowned 'fragmetism' artist Kristine Ballard.
Abira has more recently entered film with her first film credit as an extra in the 2017 short film 'I'm Here Too' by Shadow Wolves Productions, a poignant film about teen suicide, which has won multiple awards both in Australia and internationally. She also featured in the Salvation Army's induction film 2017, as a teen model in 'Kids Fashion Meets Music' by DJ Jazzy empowering young people to deal with feelings, stay positive and take care of themselves, and follow their dreams, lead role in an advertisement produced by 'Taste Creative Film', and extra in a 'Scoundrel Films' production and for the upcoming Stan series, 'Ten Pound Pom'. Abira is also trained in and has appeared on radio, interviewed by local Radio Station Triple H FM 100.1 on her creative and performing arts abilities, alongside her strong environmental awareness activities. Abira actively participates in numerous environmental activities including National Tree Day, Byles Creek Valley Protection Union, Save Epping's Forest Park, Bag Free Beecroft, and the Australian conservation program, BraidsOn of which she campaigned last year to save over 14,000 acres of rainforest. Her artwork was also recently featured in the lobby to stop Live Export and has been gifted to the 10th Anniversary Refugee Ball cause and the Centenarian Portrait Project. Abira operates her own conservation website 'Me for Trees' and continues to experiment with her artistry in fashion and NFT's.
Abira has also delved in puppetry, having been tutored by Puppet Artist Katherine Hannaford and Loutky Puppet Carvers, precious stone faceting trained in lapidary workshops with Northern Districts Lapidary Club, and craft and sewing skills with Girls' Friendly Society, Australia.
