Per FlixPatrol, the hit 24-year-old comedy Legally Blonde took the #3 spot on Peacock's top 10 most streamed shows in the United States as of July 5, 2025. This puts the film ahead of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom despite the recent release of Jurassic World Rebirth. The 2018 Jurassic World film quickly became a streaming hit, but in a huge upset, has been beaten out by the comedy. Considered one of the staple films of the 2000s, the legal comedy follows Witherspoon as sorority girl turned Harvard student Elle Woods and her initial mission to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner Huntington III (played by Mathew Davis). Per Entertainment Weekly,James Van Der Beek has been cast as a school district superintendent in Elle,the new Legally Blonde prequel series from Amazon MGM Studios. Van Der Beek played the role of Dawson in all six seasons of Dawson's Creek.

Elle will follow the life of the sparkly, pink-clad Elle Woods, originally played by Reese Witherspoon in 2001’s Legally Blonde. Van Der Beek will be a recurring guest star on the series, which is set for a Summer 2026 premiere. The Varsity Blues alum will play Dean Wilson, the superintendent of the school district that Elle attends. His character is also reportedly running for mayor of the fictional town in which the show is set.

Great news! Amazon Prime Video's Elle, the Legally Blonde prequel series, started production on April 2, with a the cast spotted filming a scene in Beverly Hills on May 1. There's finally exciting updates to share for the highly anticipated series from Reese Witherspoon.

The coming-of-age series was filming Elle and her high school friends as they walked down Rodeo Drive. A short clip was posted on Spill Sesh TikTok the following day. On May 9, Variety reported that the series had cast five new actors to join the Woods family and high school student casting.

Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, and Lisa Yamada have all joined the upcoming prequel.

As previously announced, the show will follow Elle Woods during her high school years. Lexi Minetree stars as Elle. Additional cast members include: June Diane Raphael, Tom Everett Scott, Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, and Amy Pietz.

Wepper has been cast as Elle’s chemistry teacher and high school cheer team choreographer Ms. Burke. Burtka has been cast as Elle’s neighbor, Chad, while Harder has been cast as Chad’s husband, Charlie. Maisonet and Yamada will play Tiffany and Amber respectively, friends in Elle’s Bel Aire high school circle.

Lexi Minetree, who was handpicked by original star Reese Witherspoon to portray the younger version of the character, is clad head-to-toe in pink in the new images, which come via Backgrid. The prequel series, Elle, is set to stream on Prime Video. The images portray the high-school-aged Woods on a shopping trip with a group of friends, all wearing distinctly 1990s fashions. That's in keeping with the series' timeframe, which will depict the high school years of Woods before the events of the 2001 movie, which saw her head off to law school and prove to be surprisingly adept at jurisprudence.

When reporting on the series update, Deadline shared Prime Video commits to going back in time to tell Elle's past right: "You can tell they’ve gone back in time as the teen uses her clear phone to speak to her friends on a landline, as many did in the '90s. And in true Elle Woods fashion, she’s wearing a pink hoodie and surrounded by her pink bedding."

Viewers can expect a lot of pink attire, corded phones, and possibly some great dialogue. If they fully commit, the audience will be transported back to a different era of music and feel like we're in the Legally Blonde films with a younger spin.
