Julián Ortega, who appeared in Netflix’s hit Spanish series “Elite,” died Aug. 25 after going into cardiac arrest while visiting Zahora Beach in Barbate, Spain, according to local outlets. He was 41.

Spain’s Union de Actores y Actrices posted an obituary for Ortega on Monday.

While initial reports suggested the Spanish actor had drowned, authorities later said he went into cardiac arrest while on the shore. After paramedics attempted to revive him for several minutes, Ortega was pronounced dead on the scene.

Ortega played the manager of “La Cabana” restaurant in the Spanish drama series “Elite,” appearing in several episodes during the show’s first season. “Elite” would run for eight seasons from 2018-2024, with its last episode airing on July 26.

Ahead of the premiere of Elite Season 6, the official social media accounts for the Netflix hit confirmed Tuesday that the show has been renewed for a seventh season.

Netflix shows rarely make it past their first few seasons, so Elite will be joining the likes of Orange is the New Black as one of the longest-running shows on the service.

Netflix has not confirmed the renewal, but given that the social media channel for the show has confirmed the cast of Elite Season 7, it's about as official as we'll get.

The coming season, which will drop all eight episodes on Friday, April 8, picks up after Phillipe’s fateful New Year’s party and Guzman’s running away, as the secret about Armando’s death threatens to destroy the love story between Samuel and Ari. Meanwhile, Rebeca is going through a process of self-discovery, Omar is recovering from his separation from Ander, and the addition of Adam Nourou (winner of the Goya for Best New Actor for the film Adú) as a character named Bilal will further complicate things.

Netflix just can’t get enough of Elite. The streamer announced Thursday that it has renewed the Spanish-language teen drama for Season 6, well ahead of its Season 5 premiere.

What’s more, Netflix has confirmed three new holiday-themed installments of the short-form spinoff Elite: Short Stories: “Phillipe, Caye, & Felipe” (premiering Wednesday, Dec. 15), “Samuel & Omar” (premiering Monday, Dec. 20) and “Patrick” (premiering Thursday, Dec. 23).

Elite‘s newcomers are stirring up a lot of trouble and some serious heat in the first trailer for Season 4, premiering Friday, June 18 on Netflix.

From threesomes to love triangles, the incoming students are making themselves right at home at the upper-class secondary school Las Encinas. And of course, it appears that they will also get embroiled in a fresh mystery. “They tainted everything,” Ander declares when questioned about what happened after the newbies’ arrival.

Netflix has (finally!) announced when Elite fans can check back into Las Encinas.

The long-delayed fourth season of the private-school drama will land on the streaming service Friday, June 18.

An episode order has not been revealed, but it is expected to be in line with the previous three seasons, which spanned eight episodes apiece.

The premiere date means fans will have been waiting 15 months between seasons, but the long delay is due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Elite Season 4 production was forced to shut down, but it resumed a few months ago, and with work on the season has now been completed, production on Elite Season 5 has already commenced.

Yes, fans have a lot of Elite to look forward to, but this won't be the same Elite we know and love.

Netflix Spain’s popular YA series “Elite” season four will premiere on June 18 worldwide. Among the service’s most popular programs in any language, “Elite” stands among the few series, international or American, to surpass the three-season mark at the platform.

The U.S streaming giant first announced season four just about two months after season three launched on the streamer and was seen by more 20 million households. The cast, including Miguel Bernardeau and Claudia Salas, announced the pickup via a video from their homes in quarantine. In late February of this year, Season Five was commissioned by Netflix, and two new key castings announced in Valentina Zenere and André Lamoglia.

The two newcomers will join the now superstar cast including series regulars Miguel Bernardeau, Claudia Salas, Georgina Amoros, Itzan Escamilla and Omar Ayuso, who joined the show in season three.

The streamer on Thursday officially ordered a fifth season of the Spanish-language drama Elite, well in advance of its Season 4 premiere.

Netflix made the announcement on Twitter, but Deadline revealed that the fifth season will also bring another two new cast members into the fold in Argentinian actress Valentina Zenere (Cable Girls) and Brazilian actor André Lamoglia (Juacas), but no character details were revealed.

Elite typically likes to keep viewers in suspense when new additions are announced due to the nature of the series.

Each season follows a new mystery in a similar vein to Big Little Lies, with the characters being quizzed by the police about the events.

Elite was renewed for Season 4 in May last year, but production was scuppered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the series finishing filming much later than originally planned.

Netflix will continue to roam the halls of Las Encinas for the foreseeable future. The streaming service has renewed Spanish-language drama Elite for a fifth season, ahead of its Season 4 premiere.

Spanish drama Elite has been renewed for a fifth season at Netflix, and the YA boarding school series has added Argentinan actress Valentina Zenere (Soy Luna) and Brazilan actor André Lamoglia (Juacas) to its cast.

The renewal comes before Season 4 has even premiered on Netflix. Elite, which was created and written by Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona, is one of the streamer’s best performing Spanish originals, with Netflix noting in 2019 that it had been seen by more than 20 million households.

Described as “effervescent, uninhibited and sensual,” the soapy teen series follows the intrigue at Las Encinas, an exclusive boarding school in Spain. It is made by Zeta Audiovisual, which has offices in Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville.
