'Scream 7' Star Anna Camp Hypes Sidney Prescott Being Back in Action in Slasher Sequel
Image
Scream 7, the official return of the Scream franchise after a three-year hiatus, is set for release in February 2026. Fans remain clueless about the details of the slasher sequel, with Paramount Pictures keeping things close to the chest. During filming, the cast and crew were vocal when speaking about the horror sequel, but lately, things have been quiet on the Ghostface front. Fortunately, Anna Camp, one of the franchise's newcomers, has spilled a few details. However, Camp did not spoil anything important, and simply preferred to raise anticipation about the return of none other than Sidney Prescott herself, Neve Campbell.

In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb's George Edelman, Camp talked about her arrival in one of the most beloved horror franchises of all time. It's been a long time coming for the actor whose previous horror credentials include TV appearances in True Blood, Creepshow and You. Camp's latest work is the action comedy Bride Hard,...

‘Scream 7’s Ethan Embry Recalls Wes Craven’s Reaction To His Audition For Og Film
Image
Nearly 30 years after it slashed its way into fans’ hearts, Ethan Embry is joining the Scream franchise.

After the actor’s casting in Scream 7 was announced in February, he recalled auditioning for the original 1996 Wes Craven-helmed teen slasher film that launched the popular horror franchise.

“The one thing that I can tell about Scream 7 was that it was absolutely incredible to be invited,” he told Bloody Disgusting. “That is a lovely community of people, from the very beginning to what it is now. And I’ve been wanting to be a part of that franchise since the very beginning.”

Embry added, “I remember auditioning for Scream 1. I can’t remember if it was for [Jamie Kennedy’s Randy] or [Matthew Lillard’s Stu]. It was one of those. But I remember not getting good feedback from Mr. Craven.”

While plot and character details remain under wraps, Embry...

'Scream 7' Actor Ethan Embry Was Rejected by Wes Craven 30 Years Ago
Image
Ethan Embry, the actor famous for his roles in 1990s films like Can't Hardly Wait and White Squall, is set to make his debut in the Scream franchise in 2026. Embry will have a supporting role in Scream 7, the Kevin Williamson sequel that will essentially reboot the series created by Wes Craven in 1996. The actor recently revealed that he'd been seeking a part in the beloved horror franchise since its beginning, but after he auditioned for Craven, the feedback was not the best.

Embry told the anecdote in an exclusive video for Bloody Disgusting posted on their Instagram account. The actor showed his gratitude for the opportunity to join the iconic horror series, and recalled his failed audition to join the classic cast in 1996 during the peak of his career. Those looking for Scream 7 spoilers should know that he revealed nothing about the film:

"The one thing that I...

“I Remember Not Getting Good Feedback”: ‘Scream 7’ Star Reveals He Auditioned for the First Movie
Image
A major dream came true for Ethan Embry this year, when he achieved something he set out to do a full three decades ago — get cast in a Scream movie. While chatting with Bloody Disgusting, the actor, who will soon appear inScream 7, opened up about the “absolutely incredible” time he had filming the production, which is set to slice into cinemas at the beginning of next year. Keeping specifics close to his chest, Embry said, “The one thing I can tell you about Scream 7 is that it was absolutely incredible to be invited. That is a lovely community of people — from the very beginning to what it is now.”

Like many of his other cast mates on the Kevin Williamson-helmed film, the Grace and Frankie alum is sworn to secrecy and dares not to say too much lest he drop a spoiler. Instead, the actor took a minute...

Ethan Embry says it was “incredible” to be cast in Scream 7 after failed audition for the original movie
Ethan Embry
Actor Ethan Embry is currently doing the press rounds for his new horror movie Alma & the Wolf, which is set to receive a theatrical and digital release this Friday, June 20th – and our friends at Bloody Disgusting took the opportunity to ask him about another genre project he’s been working on, Scream 7. Embry couldn’t say much about the slasher sequel, but he did say that it was “incredible” to have the chance to be in the movie, especially since he auditioned for a role in the original Scream almost thirty years ago… and that audition didn’t go well.

Scream 7 started filming at the start of January, aiming for a February 27, 2026 release date, with Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original Scream, directing from a screenplay by 2022’s Scream and Scream VI writer Guy Busick, who crafted the story with his co-writer on the fifth and sixth films,...

Ethan Embry Teases ‘Scream 7,’ Recalls Audition for Original ‘Scream’ [Exclusive]
Alma and the Wolf (2025)
While chatting with me about his new movie Alma and the Wolf, Ethan Embry briefly spoke about his involvement in Scream 7.

“The one thing I can tell you about Scream 7 was that it was absolutely incredible to be invited. That is a lovely community of people, from the very beginning to what it is now, and I’ve been wanting to a part of that franchise since the very beginning.”

Embry isn’t kidding — he auditioned for the original Scream with director Wes Craven.

“I remember auditioning for Scream 1. I can’t remember if it was [Jamie] Kennedy or [Matthew] Lillard — it was one of those — but I remember not getting good feedback from Mr. Craven,” he laughs.

Directed by Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 is due out in February 27, 2026.

‘We Get to Go Home With Her’: Scream 7 Director Is Excited for Sidney Prescott’s Return
Image
Scream 7 director Kevin Williamson opened up about Sidney Prescott’s long-awaited return in the next chapter of the long-running slasher franchise. After skipping 2023’s Scream VI due to a pay dispute with the studio, Neve Campbell is finally set to reprise her iconic role as Sidney.

During a recent interview with Collider, Williamson shared his excitement for fans to see what’s next with Campbell’s character, teasing another new chapter to the complicated life of the beloved final girl as we get to see her as a wife and mother. “I’m excited because I love Neve Campbell so much, and I love the cast,” he said. “I’m just totally immersed in Sidney Prescott, and who she is, and everything she’s been through, and all these different incarnations of her life, as seen through the entire franchise.”

“I think it’s hard when…”: Dakota Johnson May Have Finally Revealed What Went Wrong With Madame Web
Image
Dakota Johnson seems to be doing the work of an angel by helping revive the rom-com genre, by teaming up with Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans for her film, Materialists. But while promoting her new movie, she also took a moment to reflect on a not-so-glamorous chapter, Madame Web, the superhero flop that earned her a Razzie and plenty of online mockery.

In a recent interview, Johnson didn’t shy away from talking about what went wrong. She opened up about the chaotic production behind Madame Web, hinting that the final cut was worlds away from what she and the cast had imagined. She pointed to larger problems in Hollywood, like too many cooks in the kitchen and decisions being driven more by marketing than by story. Here is what she said!

Dakota Johnson finally reveals what went wrong with Madame Web!

Scream 7 (2026)
Neve Campbell suggested Kevin Williamson for the Scream 7 directing job
Scream 7 (2026)
Scream 7 started filming at the start of January, aiming for a February 27, 2026 release date, with Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original Scream, directing from a screenplay by 2022’s Scream and Scream VI writer Guy Busick, who crafted the story with his co-writer on the fifth and sixth films, James Vanderbilt. (Vanderbilt is also a producer on the most recent sequels.) You might think this would be a gig Williamson would have dove right into, but it turns out that star Neve Campbell had to do some convincing, and it was her idea to have him direct the movie in the first place!

Spyglass and Paramount once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. But then Ortega allegedly asked for a substantial...

'Tried. Failed.': Dakota Johnson Drops a Perfect Review of Her Sony Bomb Madame Web (Though the Streaming Numbers Tell a Different Story)
Image
Most every actor will have their ups and downs throughout their career, and Dakota Johnson knows this first-hand. Though her new film, Materialists, has been welcomed by critics, her last feature film, Madame Web, was an unmitigated disaster.

Johnson took a moment to address Madame Web during an appearance on the Hot Ones interview series from First We Feast. On the show, Johnson struggled with the spiciness of the wings, and leading to jokes made about how she should be able to handle it as a "superhero." For her part, Johnson made it clear that she "failed" with her attempt at becoming a superhero, much in the same way she's failing to handle spicy wings.

As Johnson said, "I am also not a superhero. Tried. Failed. Just like this show. Ugh!"

Johnson recently spoke more about the situation with Madame Web in a Los Angeles Times interview. She acknowledged that...

Madame Web Star Dakota Johnson Reveals One Good Thing To Come From Her "Worst Actress" Razzie Award Win
Image
Sony Pictures' Madame Web was nominated for six Razzie Awards this year, and ended up walking away with three "wins" for Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Actress, with star Dakota Johnson singled out for her... uneven performance.

The Materialists star took this dubious honor in her stride, and has now revealed that something positive did come out of her Razzie win, as she ended up being contacted and congratulated by one of her screen idols.

"I got a voice note from Sandra Bullock, because I don’t know if you know, but I won the Razzie for Worst Actress," Johnson said on the latest episode of Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast. "Sandra Bullock sent me a voice note being like ‘I heard you are in the Razzie club and we should have brunch, we should have a monthly brunch.’ Because I guess she won that the year that...

The Surprise Invitation Dakota Johnson Got After Winning a Razzie Award for Madame Web
Image
As the star of Madame Web, Dakota Johnson endured some heavy criticism leveled against the doomed Sony movie upon release last year. Her role in the movie even resulted in Johnson being given a "Razzie," a parody award bestowed upon the "worst" movies and performances each year.

Recently, Johnson appeared as a guest for the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast. The subject of Madame Web's rough reviews came up, and Johnson shared how, after she was declared a Razzie winner, she was contacted by Sandra Bullock for support. For her part, Bullock was already part of the "Razzie Club" after getting one for Worst Actress in 2010 for her role in the panned romantic comedy All About Steve. It seemingly softened the blow of getting a Razzie for Johnson, who was stoked to hear from such an "iconic" movie star during that rough patch.

"Sandra Bullock sent me a voice note,...

“We’re Both the Killers”: Joel McHale Gives a Cheeky Response About His Role in ‘Scream 7’
Image
Somewhere, Kevin Williamson and Paramount Pictures were experiencing heart palpitations on Monday morning when Joel McHale joined his Scream 7 co-star, Mark Consuelos, on the latter’s talk show, Live with Kelly and Mark. The comedian sat down with Consuelos and his wife/co-host on the daily series to talk about his experience working on the seventh installment in the beloved slasher franchise. When it comes to being incredibly careful about avoiding spoilers, Scream is right up there with Marvel as far as the level of seriousness is concerned. Yet, McHale wasn’t afraid to be his authentic comedic self when Kelly Ripa asked him about appearing in the movie alongside her husband.

“Yes, and we’re both the killers,” McHale said to the laughs of the studio audience, adding, “We kill everybody. And we both play Neve Campbell.” The difficult part is that we won’t know if McHale’s...

“It’s Not My Fault”: Dakota Johnson Shares Her Opinion About Why ‘Madame Web’ Failed
Image
Superhero movies are a fickle thing. When they hit, they hit, but when they miss they’re maybe even more talked about – but not in a good way. Last year, Sony tapped filmmaker S.J. Clarkson to dip into the studio’s rights over the sprawling world of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, with the movie Madame Web. On paper, it seemed like a great idea, one that would allow fresh characters to join the universe in what would be a largely female-driven storyline. At the top of the pyramid was Dakota Johnson, who starred as the titular hero, with supporting performances from Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced. Unfortunately, the movie was a box office bomb, and suffered terrible reviews from audiences and critics alike – except for those of us who can understand the pure genius behind such a piece of art.

Following a flop like Madame Web, the actors...

Dakota Johnson Says ‘Madame Web’ “Wasn’t My Fault” & Blames Flop On Decisions Made By People “Who Don’t Have A Creative Bone In Their Body”
Image
Dakota Johnson starred in Madame Web, which was a box office flop amid the discussion of superhero movie fatigue.

In a new interview, the Materialists star says the film’s failure was due to some “people who don’t have a creative bone in their body.”

“It wasn’t my fault,” Johnson told The Los Angeles Times. “There’s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don’t have a creative bone in their body. And it’s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way.”

She continued, “And I think unfortunately with Madame Web, it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.”

Dakota Johnson Says ‘Madame Web’ Flop Wasn’t Her Fault, Blames ‘Decisions Made by Committee’
Image
A year after “Madame Web” flopped at the box office, star Dakota Johnson explained she was “just sort of along for the ride,” because most of the creative decisions for Sony Pictures’ feature film take on the Marvel character were “made by committee.”

Johnson, who’s promoting her new Celine Song movie “Materialists,” told the Los Angeles Times, “It wasn’t my fault. There’s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don’t have a creative bone in their body. And it’s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way.”

The actress added, “Unfortunately, with ‘Madame Web,’ it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.

"It Wasn't My Fault": Madame Web Star Dakota Johnson Explains What Went Wrong With The Failed Marvel Movie
Image
Thanks to Sony Pictures' largely terrible track record with its Marvel movies, most fans didn't have high expectations for Madame Web. So, when the movie arrived with 12% on Rotten Tomatoes and made only $100.3 million at the worldwide box office, it wasn't overly surprising.

Despite boasting a decent cast and a director with superhero experience in Sj Clarkson, very little about Madame Web worked. Eventually, it became a subject of ridicule and is now destined to be remembered as one of the worst superhero movies ever made.

Dakota Johnson led the movie as Cassandra Webb, and faced the wrath of critics and fans alike for what proved to be a...peculiar...performance. Throw in a pretty unhinged press tour, and the actor is lucky her career wasn't completely derailed.

Talking to The Los Angeles Times about Materialists, Johnson was asked about Madame Web and bluntly responded with a laugh, "It wasn’t my fault.

You Know What?... Sony's Madame Web Was Not A Bad Movie
Image
Let's get it out of the way: Yes, I know — I have s$@t taste in movies. That comic book film you despise? Yeah, that one; the one that evokes feelings of hatred so intense, it makes you want to puke? I probably found some enjoyment in it. So, let it all out. Release your frustration and anger at me.

Believe me, considering what I'm about to say — and I say this without the slightest hint of sarcasm — I will understand you... Madame Web is not a bad movie. It was, in fact, okay.

Wait... What?

Ever since its fateful release in February 2024, Madame Web has been treated as the scourge of the comic book genre. If you were to hear about the movie without having watched it, you'd not be faulted to believe it kicked someone's goldfish and subsequently stepped on a special-edition steelbook of The Dark Knight signed by Christopher Nolan himself.

Scream 7 picks up “at least two years” after the events of Scream VI

‘Scream 7’ Takes Place Approximately Two Years After ‘Scream 6’
Image
For the first time in the franchise’s history, original Scream writer Kevin Williamson sits in the director’s chair for the upcoming Scream 7, due in theaters on February 27, 2026.

Neve Campbell is back as Sidney Prescott, with the character taking center stage in the upcoming seventh installment. She’ll be joined by a host of returning players including David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard, with Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown also set to reprise their roles from the previous two installments.

So what the hell is Scream 7 actually about and how are all these characters going to be brought back into the mix? These are the questions we still don’t have any answers to. But in a new chat with ComicBook.com this week, writer Guy Busick does offer up some mild teasers.

For starters, he reveals that Scream 7 takes place approximately two...

Madame Web Star Sydney Sweeney Addresses The Marvel FIlm's Disappointing Reception: "I Had A Really Fun Time, So That Is All That Matters To Me."
Image
Over a year after the film's huge box-office failure, Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney revealed her honest take on the film flopping. In addition to Sweeney, the film starred Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and Tahar Rahim. Boasting an abysmal 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a worldwide gross of $100 million per Box Office Mojo, Madame Web is widely considered a total failure. It also marked yet another unsuccessful attempt by Sony to emulate the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent interview, Sweeney unpacked her perspective on Madame Web's poor reception:

I mean, I had a really fun time, so that is all that matters to me. I think that if you are enjoying what you do, it doesn’t really matter what the outcome is, on a box-office level. Of course, you want the film to be celebrated and loved and successful,...

Madame Web Unused Promo Material Features Major MCU References To Thanos, Hulk, Carol Danvers, And More
Image
We have heard numerous reports about Sony Pictures' original plans for Madame Web, which - if rumors are to be believed - was going to be set in the same universe as The Amazing Spider-Man at one point before the decision was made to connect the movie to the Ssu (Sony's Spider-Man Universe).

Though it's been said that Tom Holland's take on Peter Parker was going to appear (see Daniel Richtman's post below), Madame Web ultimately turned out to be more of a standalone story with only tenuous ties to the wider Ssu. However, it seems the studio was determined to push a connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the early marketing stages.

Some photos of popcorn buckets and drink holders that were sent out to various theater chains before being recalled have been shared online, and the unused promo art takes the form of Daily...

Scream 7 (2026)
Sarah Michelle Gellar hoped to come back for Scream 7
Scream 7 (2026)
Scream 7 started filming at the start of January, aiming for a February 27, 2026 release date, and we’ve seen some surprising reports about the slasher sequel as it has made its way through production – with the most surprising and strange news being that Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who played Ghostface killers who were killed off in Scream (1996) and Scream 3, respectively, and David Arquette, whose beloved character Dewey lost his life in Scream (2022), are all in the cast. But there’s one person on the Scream franchise body count that has been hoping to come back for Scream 7 and hasn’t been contacted yet: Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played ill-fated college student Cici Cooper in Scream 2.

Gellar told Entertainment Tonight (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “I’m not in [Scream 7]. I tried to get in [Scream 7], nobody wanted me. They were bringing everybody back.

Sydney Sweeney Admits She Appeared in Her Worst-Reviewed Film of All Time to Impress Her Family
Image
Award-winning actor Sydney Sweeney has one major stain on an otherwise solid Hollywood resume, thanks to the widely derided superhero film, Madame Web. Despite her Marvel debut not getting the results she'd hoped for, Sweeney admits she enjoyed being in the movie and appearing in it to please her family.

Speaking with Empire, Sweeney fondly recalled her time on Madame Web, claiming that, despite the film's negative reputation, she liked working on the movie as it granted her significant exposure.

"It’s always fun to be able to be a part of something that’s bigger than yourself," she said. "I hadn’t done a studio film yet, and I had started my production company [Fifty-Fifty Films]. I had some properties that I really wanted to be able to take out to studios, and I needed to be able to get my name to have more value, within a studio household.

Spider-Verse Movies Ranked: From Worst to Best
Image
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can – and everybody knows it. Unless you’ve been living under a literal rock since the 1960s, chances are you’ve at least heard of the web-slinger Peter Parker, a.k.a Spider-Man. The Marvel comic book character has become an immortal symbol of hope for his never-ending fan base and has transcended time by still being (arguably) the most popular Marvel comic book character to date. Fans know Spider-Man is a deeply complex character with sacrifice built into his backstory/canon. Yet, he still manages to always look out for the little guy by staying true to his humble title of “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” – and that’s why audiences the world over love and relate to him. These qualities and obstacles make Spider-Man the perfect character for on-screen interpretations, and Hollywood has milked that cow for as much as they possibly could over...

‘Scream’ Family Member Confirms Their Return for the Seventh Movie
Image
One more member of the Scream family is set to make their return for the seventh installment in the slasher franchise. With universe creator, Kevin Williamson, standing at the helm, another behind-the-scenes face from early on in the beloved film series will be lending his unique vision to the production, with composer Marco Beltrami officially confirming his return. The musician provided the score behind the first four films of the franchise before the directorial reins were taken over by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin during the fifth and sixth titles. Now, audiences can expect to hear many of the same themes that helped to set the tone during the first four Wes Craven-directed features. Taking to Instagram to confirm the news, Beltrami responded to a comment on a post from 2023, telling one follower “don’t worry, I am” when he was asked to return to his position for Scream...

'Scream 7's David Arquette Says His Character's Return Was Supposed to Be a Surprise
Image
The following article contains spoilers for the Scream franchise.Actor David Arquette, best known for playing Dewey Riley in the Screamfranchise, is set to play the iconic horror character once again in Scream 7, the next installment to be released in February 2026. It's not a secret that Dewey was killed in 2022's Scream, marking the end of his run as the brave police officer who was always there to stand against Ghostface. Therefore, the big question upon the announcement of his character's return was how Dewey would spawn back to life. The problem is that, apparently, we should never have known about Arquette's casting in the first place.

The actor is currently promoting his latest film, the corrupt cop drama Mob Cops. In a conversation with ComingSoon, Arquette talks about playing a very different kind of law enforcement agent when compared to the one he's been playing for decades in the horror franchise.

Sony’s 5 Spider-Man Universe Movies Ranked by Box Office Success
Image
Sony’s 5 Spider-Man Universe Movies Box Office score (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has been swinging from web to web, mostly into box office cobwebs. Since 2018, the studio has tried to spin a cinematic web without the main webslinger himself. Bold move. Starting with Venom, they banked on side characters like Eddie Brock, Morbius, and whoever El Muerto was supposed to be (Rip that idea). Unfortunately, apart from Tom Hardy’s symbiote-fueled growling, the rest of the gang hasn’t exactly set the world, or the box office, on fire.

Each new entry seems to perform worse than the last, like a reverse glow-up in slow motion. Sony keeps insisting Spider-Man is somewhere in this universe, probably lurking off-screen like an unpaid intern, but fans aren’t biting (unless you count Morbius memes as currency). With Kraven the Hunter and Venom: The Last Dance looming, Sony’s plans hang in the balance,...

Where Have You Seen Isabela Merced Before? ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Dina Actress Starred in 2024’s Worst Movie
Image
The Last of Us is back, and this time, it brings heartbreaking stories, scares, and characters that will live on for a long time. In Season 2, Joel and Ellie’s duo, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, are back on screen once again.

This new season also brings some new faces, and one of them is the most talked-about name, Dina, played by Isabela Merced, who is Ellie’s love interest and a key part of the story.

And those rumors are not just for good reasons. Before stepping into this serious and dark zombie world, Merced worked in a film that was in the news for all the wrong reasons in 2024. This was the superhero movie that generated a lot of buzz, and sadly, most of it was negative.

How did Isabela Merced go from being a Nickelodeon star to a movie actress?...

Jenna Ortega On Why She Dropped Out Of ‘Scream 7’ After Melissa Barrera’s Exit: “It Was All Kind Of Falling Apart”
Image
Jenna Ortega is revealing the real reason she left Scream 7 amid the fallout from Melissa Barrera’s firing from the franchise.

In a new interview, the Wednesday star opened up about what led to her exit from the film after her co-star Barrera was cut from the movie following her comments on the Israel-Hamas war.

“It had nothing to do with pay or scheduling,” Ortega said in an interview with The Cut. “The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart.”

When Ortega stepped down from reprising her role in the Scream franchise, directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin had also exited the project.

“If Scream VII wasn’t going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell in love with, then it didn’t seem like the right move for me in my career at the time,” she added.

Scream 7: Jenna Ortega bailed because sequel was falling apart; Matthew Lillard doesn’t want to mess it up
Image
Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. We heard that Ortega exited the project after asking for a substantial pay raise – and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. But now Ortega has given an interview where she denied that a pay dispute had anything to do with her exit.

Speaking to The Cut, Ortega said she dropped out of Scream 7 because of the Melissa Barrera situation, and because the directors of Scream (2022) and Scream VI (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) were not coming back. Here’s the...

'It Didn't Seem Like the Right Move': Jenna Ortega Explains Why She Quit the Scream Franchise
Image
Jenna Ortega is a certified Scream Queen, with a number of popular slashers in her career. One of the biggest roles was in the Scream franchise.

The actress joined the franchise's reboot movie Scream in 2022, where she played Tara Carpenter. The fifth and sixth installments had horror duo Matt Bettinelli-Olplin and Tyler Gillett at the helm, and also starred Melissa Barrera in the leading role. Following Barrera's firing following her support for Palestine, Ortega also exited the Scream franchise shortly after, and, during an interview with The Cut, the Wednesday star explained her reasons for departing the upcoming Scream 7.

Spyglass fired Melissa Barrera following her comments on social media, and on Nov. 21, 2023. The next day, Ortega announced her departure as well. There were several reports that the Wednesday star departed the project to support Barrera, others that it was because of the scheduling would overlap with her Wednesday filming. Season...

Jenna Ortega finally shares the truth behind her exit from the Scream franchise
Image
Although Jenna Ortega has taken on a variety of roles throughout her acting career, she’s most recognized for her work in the horror genre, particularly for portraying Tara Carpenter in the slasher hits Scream and Scream VI. Sadly, the talented actress decided to exit the horror franchise back in 2023, leaving fans shocked and speculating about the true reason behind her departure. Well, the speculations can stop now because the actress herself has finally come forward and set the record straight, revealing exactly why she stepped away.

In November 2023, news broke that Spyglass Media Group had fired Melissa Barrera from her role as Sam Carpenter in the Scream franchise, following comments she made on social media regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. Scott Foley on his Scream 7 return: “I’m not sure how it’s going to work.”
Image
Scream 7 started filming at the start of January, and we’ve seen some surprising reports about the slasher sequel as it has made its way through production – with the most surprising and strange news being that Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who played Ghostface killers who were killed off in Scream (1996) and Scream 3, respectively, and David Arquette, whose beloved character Dewey lost his life in Scream (2022), are all in the cast. During an appearance on Good Morning America, Foley admitted that, like many Scream fans, he isn’t sure how his return actually works.

Foley said, with thanks to Deadline for the transcription, “I don’t know how it works out. Spoiler alert! 25 years ago I was the killer in Scream 3 and he was brutally taken to town and killed. And now I’m back in Scream 7 and I’m not sure how it’s going to work.

Scott Foley's 'Scream 7' Return Is Confusing To Him, Too
Image
Scream 3's infamous Ghostface resoundingly met his maker at the hands of Neve Campbell and company in the classic 2000 film, so it came as a surprise to many horror fans when the news broke that Scott Foley would return for director Kevin Williamson’s Scream 7. In fact, Foley himself is as confused as the fandom is when it comes to how his character, Roman Bridger, will return from the dead.

Regardless, the Felicity and Scandal actor tried to coyly answer that burning question during a new interview while appearing on Good Morning America by saying:

"That's a great question, and I'm willing to take a poll here and someone can explain it to me, because I don't know how it works out. Yeah, my character, I was the — Spoiler Alert 25 years ago — I was the killer in 'Scream 3', and he was brutally taken to town and killed.

Image
Scott Foley teased his return to the Scream franchise for the seventh installment despite his character’s death.

Scream 7 is set to bring back several dead characters, including Scott Foley's Roman Bridger, much to the confusion of the fandom. Fortunately, Foley is just as confused as the fans over how his Scream 3 killer will return in the slasher sequel.

Foley opened up about his Scream return during a recent appearance on Good Morning America to promote his new role in Will Trent. "I'm willing to take a poll here and someone can explain it to me because I don't know how it works out," said Foley (via Entertainment Weekly). Taylor Sheridan Favorite Michelle Randolph Joins 'Scream 7' Cast
Image
Ghostface will have his/her choice of characters to question about their favorite scary movies when Scream 7 finally hits theaters in February 2026. Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers are the only two living survivors from director Wes Craven’s 1996 film returning. However, Woodsboro’s masked serial killer will come up against plenty of new blood, too, including the film's newest addition, Landman and 1923’sfan-favorite star, Michelle Randolph.

It’s unclear who Randolph will portray in the latest Scream installment, but she will be rubbing elbows with some of the horror franchise’s crème de la crème. In addition to Campbell and Cox, several other actors from earlier entries are returning for another go-round with Ghostface — even though their respective characters are presumably dead — more on that shortly.

Randolph currently portrays Jack Dutton’s (Darren Mann) wife, Elizabeth Strafford, in 1923, which is the immensely popular...

Scream 7 add two more potential victims with Michelle Randolph and Jimmy Tatro
Image
Scream 7 is well into production, but that doesn’t mean a couple more potential victims (or killers) can’t be added to the cast, as Deadline reports that Michelle Randolph and Jimmy Tatro have signed on.

Randolph has been making big waves as the breakout star of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman, where she plays the daughter of Billy Bob Thornton’s character. She also has a main role in another Sheridan series, 1923. As for Tatro, he’s best known for American Vandal, The Real Bros of Simi Valley, and starring alongside Topher Grace in Home Economics.

The cast of Scream 7 is pretty packed, including plenty of characters from across the franchise. After sitting out the last movie due to a pay dispute, Neve Campbell returns to star as Sidney Prescott. Courteney Cox is also back as Gale Weathers, as is David Arquette as Dewey Riley. Matthew Lillard will...

Christopher Landon at an event for Burning Palms (2010)
‘Freaky’ Offers a New Kind of Slasher Killer [The Lady Killers Podcast]
Christopher Landon at an event for Burning Palms (2010)
“I can’t wait to kill you.”

We’re all familiar with the slasher killer. Usually male, this tall and imposing monster stalks his victims with phallic weapons while covering his face with an iconic mask. From Michael Myers’ “The Shape” to Ghostface’s billowing robes, we’ve become accustomed to fearing these hulking beasts when we see them approaching an unsuspecting victim.

What we’re not prepared for is a slasher killer in the body of a teenage girl. Christopher Landon subverts this decades-old archetype with his 2020 film Freaky. By remixing classic slasher tropes with the patterns of a teen body swap comedy, Landon and screenwriter Michael Kennedy deliver a surprisingly empathetic exploration of gender and strength.

Millie (Kathryn Newton) is a shy high school student who’s just lost her father. Struggling to connect with her grieving mother, she leans on friends Nyla (Celeste O’Connor) and Josh (Misha Osherovich) for emotional support.

Scream 7 Will See The Return Of David Arquette As The Very Dead Dewey Riley
Image
Deadline reports that David Arquette is set to return as former police deputy Dewey Riley in the seventh Scream movie... despite being pretty soundly murdered by Mikey Madison's Ghostface in the fifth instalment.

Dewey is just the latest character to be "resurrected" for the next film in the classic slasher franchise, although he is the first not to have terrorized our protagonists as Ghostface.

Earlier this year, the trades reported on a couple of casting additions that left fans scratching their heads. We learned that one of the two Og Ghostfaces, Matthew Lillard's Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher, would return for the next film despite being killed-off in the first Scream after being stabbed several times and having a TV dropped on his head. Then, reports came in that Scott Foley would also be back as Scream 3's Ghostface Roman Bridger - also definitively dispatched.

Are these characters somehow still alive,...
