Landman's Ali Larter Remembers The Tough Audition Process Taylor Sheridan Put Her Through
Image
"Landman" was the easiest audition of Jon Hamm's career. Taylor Sheridan invited the actor to his ranch in Fort Worth, explained his ideas for the show, and offered him the part right there and then. However, not every cast member had such an easy time of it, as Ali Larter, who plays Angela Norris on the oil-worker drama, described her audition as one of the toughest of her career.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the "Varsity Blues" star recalled having to read four pages of the script during the initial stages, followed by 10, and so on. After that, she was summoned to Fort Worth for a screen test -- along with 11 other actors who were in the running to play Angela. That's when things got really tough. In her own words:

"You get called in one by one, and then you have to wait until everyone's done.

Ray Romano's Favorite Everybody Loves Raymond Episodes Will Leave You In Stitches
Image
"Everybody Loves Raymond" was the poster child of sitcom television throughout the show's nearly decade-long run from 1996 to 2005. Those nine seasons saw the production of over 200 episodes, with creator Phil Rosenthal, comedic legend Ray Romano, and an incredible supporting cast (including the likes of Patricia Heaton and Brad Garrett) generating an endless stream of knee-slapping moments centered on the mundane life of the Barones of Long Island.

Each episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" has something to like. As always, though, some stand out above the rest. If you reference the crowd-sourced ratings on a website like IMDb, audiences found episodes like season 5's "The Wallpaper" and season 7's "Debra Makes Something Good" to be peak sitcom.

But what about the man himself? What does Romano think are the best episodes of his show? In an interview with People Magazine in 2024, the actor revealed that he had finally sat down and...

“I Would Have A Seizure”: Billy Bob Thornton Reacts To Landman's Shocking Father/Daughter Conversations
Image
Billy Bob Thornton feels the same way audiences do about some of the shocking things his character, Tommy Norris, hears from his daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) in Landman. Thornton leads Landman's cast as the eponymous fixer for the West Texas oil conglomerate, M-tex.Landman season 1 became a global hit and one of the most-watched series ever on Paramount+, in large part thanks to the show's entertaining Norris family dynamics.

As reported by People, Billy Bob Thornton was joined at the Atx TV Festival in Austin, Texas, by his Landman co-stars, including Michelle Randolph and Ali Larter, who plays Tommy's ex-wife, Angela. Thornton reflected he draws on his experience of being a dad to four kids to play Tommy in Landman, and that he and his fellow actors "did become a family." Ali Larter on playing an ’emotional rollercoaster’ opposite Billy Bob Thornton on ‘Landman’
Image
Ali Larter has played a variety of roles in her nearly 30-year career, but none has compared to Landman. "This is one of the most layered, complicated roles and shows I've ever had a chance to work on," she tells Gold Derby. The role "really has stretched me in every single way."

The latest series cocreated by Taylor Sheridan, Landman stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, the right-hand man for a powerful West Texas oil executive (Jon Hamm). Larter plays Tommy's ex-wife, Angela, who is first introduced during a FaceTime call while vacationing with her new husband. It doesn't take long for her to make her way back to Texas, where she attempts to reconcile with her ex and rebuild a household with their children, Cooper (Jacob Lofland) and Ainsley (Michelle Randolph).

Larter was immediately drawn to working with Sheridan, who "loves his women to be emotional roller coasters.

“Taylor [Sheridan] Said, ‘Tell Your Life Story’”: ‘Landman’s Billy Bob Thornton Explains the Series' Emotional Dallas Cowboys Owner Cameo
Image
Landman Season 2 is on a steady pace of production ahead of its November 2025 release window, and the show’s leading star has just pulled back the curtain on one of the most emotional moments from Season 1. Starring in the lead role of Tommy Norris in Landman is Billy Bob Thornton, who takes over the President of M-Tex job from Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) after he dies at the end of Season 1. While he’s still in the hospital before he passes, Tommy and Monty are catching up when Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones walks in and delivers an all-time speech. During the Landman panel at the Newport Beach TV Festival last weekend, Thornton spoke about how this cameo came to be and just how shocked he and Hamm were to watch it happen:

“It doesn’t bother me”: Ali Larter’s Loyalty to Taylor Sheridan Is Misplaced After Kelly Reilly’s Yellowstone Fate
Image
Ali Larter’s loyalty to Taylor Sheridan might seem admirable on the surface, but after what went down with Kelly Reilly on Yellowstone, it does raise eyebrows. However, Larter brushed off criticism, saying it “doesn’t bother” her, but fans aren’t convinced that kind of blind faith is wise. Sheridan’s track record with female characters has been rocky, and Reilly’s messy fate as Beth Dutton only deepened the concerns.

With Larter jumping into Landman under his creative direction, viewers are wondering if she’s next in line for a character arc that fizzles out or, worse, gets steamrolled by Sheridan’s macho storytelling priorities.

‘The Office’ Original Planned Ending Was a Disaster for Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, Despite What Fans Feel
Image
For nearly a decade, The Office graced the television screens, captivating fans with its dry humor, quirky characters, and one of the most iconic bosses in sitcom history, Michael Scott. When The Office reached its 2013 finale, fans were eager to see how the series would conclude the stories of its unforgettable characters. The most unexpected moment was Michael’s return, who had quietly left Dunder Mifflin at the end of season 7.

His character evolved from a bumbling regional manager to a man who, in his own clumsy way, found love and a sense of personal growth. He returned for the show’s 2013 series finale, and it was a satisfying moment for many fans. However, the original plan of his return threatened to undo all that progress, even Steve Carell agrees.

'Landman' Season 2 Gets a Promising Filming Status Update From Its Star
Image
The Landman crew is deep in the oil fields of Texas — or at least, the soundstages and wide-open locations of Fort Worth — and according to Ali Larter, they’re making solid progress. After kicking off production in January, the second season of Taylor Sheridan’s hit Paramount+ drama is officially past the halfway point.

“We’re midway through our second season, which is also five months,” Larter told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s actually not as hard [as Season 1]. It’s nicer that we started later, in January, because my kids will be out of school and come down to me soon.”

Larter, who plays the inflammatory matriarch Angela Norris opposite Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy, has been putting in the hours once again, but with the benefit of experience this time around. “We did the work last year so now we’re kind of on our way,” she said, noting that...

'Landman' Star Claims Taylor Sheridan's Series Would Be a "Different Show" If They Reacted to Criticism
Image
When Landman first dropped on Paramount+, not everyone was on board with Angela Norris. Some critics saw her and her daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) as overly glam, overly loud, and a bit too dialed up — but according to Ali Larter, that was all part of Taylor Sheridan’s plan. And she’s not about to apologize for it. In fact, she says the show would be unrecognizable if it tried to course-correct based on the early noise.

“There’s good press and bad press,” Larter told The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s challenging. I try to keep myself at arm’s length from that and stay with the work. This is Taylor’s baby. Anytime I would take my foot off the pedal, Taylor was on step. He wants [Angela] loud and emotional, like a tornado of energy.”

"A Tornado of Energy": 'Landman's Ali Larter Says Taylor Sheridan Demanded Angela Be "Loud and Emotional" Despite Fan Criticism
Image
When Landman first premiered on Paramount+, some viewers weren’t quite sure what to make of Angela Norris. Introduced via FaceTime as the flashy, foul-mouthed, high-kicking ex-wife of Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy, the character caught attention—and stirred controversy. But according to Ali Larter, who plays Angela, that reaction was part of creator Taylor Sheridan’s plan all along.

“Taylor wanted her loud and emotional, like a tornado of energy,” Larter told The Hollywood Reporter. “Anytime I would take my foot off the pedal, Taylor was on step. He wants them big and bold.”

Larter said Sheridan's direction challenged her to push boundaries, even in the face of early criticism that Angela was being objectified. Rather than shy away, Larter leaned in. “Objectify me. C’mon,” she laughed. “Nobody’s putting me in a position that I’m not comfortable being in… What’s more uncomfortable is that...

‘Empire of the Dark’ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Steve Barkett, Christopher Barkett, Tera Hendrickson, Richard Harrison, Dawn Wildsmith, John Henry Richardson, Patricia Schiotis, Joseph Pilato, Jan Bryant | Written and Directed by Steve Barkett

In the 80s and 90s there were so many post-apocalyptic films. Many of the most fun out-of-this-world ones were of the low-budget B movie variety, and we’ve probably all heard the term “so bad it’s good” when it comes to these films.

Steve Barkett is a name you may not know off the top of your head, but if you love those B-movies from that era, you’ll know his films. In 1982 he made The Aftermath, and in 1995 he made Attack of the 60 Foot Centrefold. But in between those two films, in 1991, he wrote, produced, directed and starred in Empire of the Dark. Vci Entertainment and Mvd Visual previously brought us The Aftermath on Blu-ray. Now, as we are coming upon the...

Superman Director James Gunn Reveals New Ultraman Details; Metamorpho, Engineer's Roles Explained - Spoilers

Superman features several heroes and a surprisingly long list of villains. While Lex Luthor will be the movie's primary big bad, he'll be joined by Ultraman, the Engineer, and even his girlfriend, Eve Teschmacher. The LuthorCorp CEO also has an unwilling ally in Metamorpho.

Ultraman has been shrouded in secrecy, with theories about his identity ranging from a Superman clone to a new take on Parasite. Many fans have even suggested that he could be an early iteration of Bizarro, a character it's easy to imagine filmmaker James Gunn having fun with down the line.

Entertainment Weekly asked Gunn if Ultraman is Lex's "Superman," to which he replied, "I think that's close. Ultraman is sort of Lex's thug, and is pretty powerful."

"There are some characters that are really almost saintly, like Superman," he elaborated. "There are some characters who are almost pretty terrible, like Lex Luthor. But I don't think Lex is all bad,...

Five Will-They-or-Won’t-They Sitcom Relationships That Became Exhausting
Image
The will-they-or-won’t-they relationship has been around long before sitcoms were even a thing, and though it can prove fruitful comedically, it also has its many pitfalls. If the characters don’t end up together, the audience isn’t satisfied (like The Wonder Years), but if they do end up together, the show loses a big avenue for comedy (like Frasier), and often a dramatic tension. As a result, many sitcoms try to drag out the will-they-or-won’t-they dynamic for as long as possible, which can end up being so tiresome that most viewers are ready for a won’t they.

Here are four shows that tried to keep their will-they-or-won’t-they relationships going way beyond their expiration date…

1 Ross and Rachel on ‘Friends’

Ross’ feelings for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) are introduced in the very first episode of Friends, but they don’t get together until well into Season Two.

“Objectify me. C’mon”: Ali Larter Responds to Taylor Sheridan’s Worst Criticism Ahead of ‘Landman’ Season 2

If you’d told us ten years ago that Ali Larter, the same actress who once spooned whipped cream off her body in Varsity Blues, would end up as the moral backbone of a show about oil tycoons in Texas, we might have offered you a side-eye and an aspirin. But here we are.

Larter, firmly planted on Taylor Sheridan’s ever-expanding turf, is filming Landman Season 2 in Fort Worth, Texas. Yes, she’s stepping back into her character Angela Norris’ stiletto heels, a role critics once blasted as reductive and hyper-sexualized. Well, Sheridan saw that coming from a mile away, apparently.

Let’s get one thing straight: Angela Norris is not some bougie, Botoxed side dish to Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy. She’s a full-course meal served...

Kings Of Jo’Burg Recap (Seasons 1-2): Everything To Know Before Season 2
Image
Netflix’s hit South African series, Kings of Jo’Burg, created by late actor Shona Ferguson, established its uniqueness by admixing a gangland saga with supernatural elements that are connected with the land’s occult heritage. The series uses metaphysical themes to enhance the grittiness of the crime drama by creating a narrative link that connects otherworldly horrors with usual crime thriller tropes like past regrets, generational trauma, and complex family ties. The first two seasons of Kings of Jo’Burg were quite entertaining—backed by a good story and performances. Before the much-anticipated third season releases later this week, let us go through the story so far to get a proper idea of what to expect.

Spoiler Alert

Season 1: The Reign of the Masire Siblings

The story of Kings of Jo’Burg revolves around one of Johannesburg’s most influential crime families, the Masires. At present, Simon ‘Vader’ Masire runs his criminal enterprise,...

Ali Larter on ‘Landman’ Season 2 and Playing Out Her and Billy Bob Thornton’s “Unlikely Love Affair”
Image
Ali Larter is currently in the middle of shooting Landman season two, which landed her on set in Fort Worth, Texas for about five months. Around the start of the pandemic, Larter and husband Hayes MacArthur relocated themselves and their two young children to a small town in Idaho and they never returned to Los Angeles. She spends her days off flying back for parent-teacher conferences and is now looking forward to welcoming her family down to Texas once school is out.

But when Larter steps onto Taylor Sheridan’s set, the mother of two morphs into Angela Norris. Angela, also a mother to two older children played by Michelle Randolph and Jacob Lofland in the hit Paramount+ oil drama, is the feisty, spitfire wife of landman Tommy Norris, played by her scene partner Billy Bob Thornton. Viewers first met Larter’s Angela on a FaceTime screen and since that brief introduction,...

Image
The Real Housewives of Atlanta (Rhoa) Season 16 aired in 2023, and it definitely didn’t disappoint with its drama, glamour, and iconic moments. The season saw a lot of familiar faces, but also some new dynamics and even a few shake-ups.

The show’s one of the most talked about contestants is Marlo Hampton. She joined the show as a “friend of the housewives” in Season 4 and later became a full-time cast member. Hampton is known for her larger-than-life personality, bold fashion choices, and, of course, her famous one-liners and drama-filled moments on the show.

What did Marlo Hampton say about the Rhoa Season 17 contestants?

Marlo Hampton has had quite a few dramatic clashes with her The Real Housewives of Atlanta castmates over the years, and her issues often revolve around her no-holds-barred attitude, her fierce loyalty, and her ability to stir up tension. She’s never been shy about getting involved in the drama,...

This Day That Year: Revisiting Ribhu Dasgupta’s Amitabh Bachchan-Nawazuddin Starrer As It Clocks 9 Years
Image
Subhash K Jha looks back at 2016’s Te3n plus Amitabh Bachchan reflects at the experience of filming Te3n in a special This Day That Year feature.

debutant director Ribhu Dasgupta’s persuasive portrait of distant discontent Te3n is about John’s atonement, his 15-year long quest for justice and his rather unconventional method of seeking and obtaining a closure to his agonizing journey of pain hurt guilt and loss.

Curiously, 2016 seems to be the year when Mr. Bachchan plays bereaved characters. In Wazir earlier this year he was a wheelchair-bound patriarch seeking revenge for a murdered daughter. In Te3n—the title refers to the three protagonists of this jagged jigsaw of crime and retribution-it’s his character’s wife who is in a wheelchair while Mr Bachchan’s tries to find justice for his granddaughter’s murder.

But get this right. Mr Bachchan’s Omkar Nath Dhar in...

Ali Larter’s ‘Landman’ Season 2 Remark Hints Taylor Sheridan Has Learned His Yellowstone Mistake
Image
Ali Larter spilling a little tea on Landman Season 2 got us thinking whether Taylor Sheridan might be turning over a new leaf. It sounds like he’s actually listened to all those whispers (and shouts!) about Yellowstone‘s, well, let’s just say “adventures in storytelling.” Remember how Yellowstone sometimes felt like it was just making it up as it went along, with plots that vanished faster than a free ranch hand at quitting time?

Larter’s comments give us a glimmer of hope that Landman could be tighter, more focused, and actually wrap things up. Maybe Ts has learned his lesson and is ready to give us a show that’s less “huh?” and more “heck yeah!”

Taylor Sheridan
Billy Bob Thornton showcases his pride for the success of Landman and speaks briefly about the upcoming second season
Taylor Sheridan
Taylor Sheridan continues his reign at Paramount+ as the modern western maestro. The first season of his oil-driller drama, Landman, ended with an explosive finale that found Monty dying from a heart attack, leaving the future of M-Tex in the hands of Tommy, who likely will not want to become CEO but lead the company in some other way. The stage is set for season 2, which began its production this past April and we’re expecting it to premiere a year after season one sometime this November.

Billy Bob Thornton spoke with The Hollywood Reporter at an Emmy FYC event for the show on Sunday, where he revealed, “We knew it was going to be successful — we didn’t know it was going to be this successful. It’s amazing, we’re so proud. We love the people we work with and so we’re proud for everybody involved.” The...

"I'm Trying to Put Us Back Together": 'Landman's Ali Larter on Angela's Evolution in Season 2 of Taylor Sheridan's Hit Series [Exclusive]
Image
With production fully firing down in West Texas, Landman star Ali Larter is pulling back the curtain on her character Angela Norris — the brash, big personality ex-wife of Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris — and why Season 2 will be louder, sexier, and even more emotionally explosive than what came before. Angela may have started as a voice on a FaceTime call — all attitude and acrylics — but by the end of Season 1, she’d charged into Midland like a Category 5 storm.

Now, according to Larter, she’s even more layered, more complicated, and more fun to play, as she told Collider's Aidan Kelley at the Newport Beach TV Festival.

“We do. People keep asking us about the chemistry and all that. For actors like you definitely have to find it if you don't have it, but when you naturally do and then you put the time into the work, it's just super magic.

Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Landman’ Rejoins Paramount+'s Streaming Charts as Season 2 Inches Closer
Image
Production on Landman Season 2 is firing on all cylinders, and Taylor Sheridan’s hit 2024 series has found even more streaming success at a shocking time. Landman has snuck back into the Paramount+ top 10 almost five months removed from the Season 1 finale, sitting at #10 at the time of writing. This is likely a result of the wave of Season 2 news that Sheridan, star Billy Bob Thornton, and others have been dropping about the series as it prepares to return to Paramount+ later this year. Landman was recently unseated on streaming charts by MobLand, the Guy Ritchie-directed crime series starring Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan, which is still sitting comfortably at #8 at the time of writing. MobLand is just narrowly ahead of Blue Bloods, which has returned to the top 10 as fans’ excitement for Boston Blue boils over.

It’s safe to say Landman Season 2 is going to look much different than the first season.

Superman's María Gabriela de Faría Reveals The Surprising Inspiration Behind Her Version Of The Engineer: Telenovelas
Image
Superman actress María Gabriela de Faría recently discussed the unusual source she drew inspiration from to portray the DC Universe villain, Angela Spica/the Engineer. Hailing from Venezuela and having appeared in many South American productions, the star has a strong background with telenovelas, and as such, she brought that to Superman. Her character, who is normally a member of The Authority in DC Comics, works for Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) in the film, serving as an antagonist to Clark Kent/Superman (David Corenswet).

In an appearance on the DC Studios Showcase Podcast, de Faria explained how such a different genre could feed into her inspiration for Superman. Clarifying that telenovelas are a big part of her own acting journey, the actress stated:

I was raised by telenovelas. My parents were really young when they had me. My mom was 15 and my dad was 17. And they were working so much to make ends meet.

Disney+ Makes MCU History by Replacing Superhero With New Actor
Image
Marvel Studios just broke new ground when it comes to superhero mantles. New confirmation from the set of a Marvel Disney+ production confirmed one hero is officially being replaced with another in a way that is a first for the MCU streaming sphere.

Photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 confirmed that Angela Del Toro will become White Tiger in future episodes, just like her character in Marvel Comics. While fans suspected this, Angela assuming the White Tiger mantle from her late uncle, Hector Ayala, both of whom were introduced on Disney+, is the first time in MCU history that a superhero title exclusive to streaming shifted from one original Disney+ character to another. Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again reportedly arrives on Disney+ in March 2026.

Granted, there have been similar instances, especially in the wake of Avengers: Endgame, of characters taking up the moniker of another. But within the world of streaming,...
