Globoplay, the freemium streaming service of Brazilian media giant Globo, is stepping into the genre market with “Reincarnate.” The streamer’s first original horror series will have its first public bow as part of this year’s Berlinale Series Market Selects, with an official release date yet to be announced.
“Reincarnate” has a nine-episode run and begins with Tulio, a former cop, released from prison after spending 18 years locked up for killing his partner, Caio. On his first day of freedom, Tulio plans on ending his life, but a teenager knocks on his door, claiming to be Caio reincarnated. Together, the two embark on a journey to solve Caio’s murder, find the real killer, and restore Tulio’s honor. The series takes place in the Brazilian countryside and features stars such as Taís Araujo, Julia Dalavia (“Pantanal”) and Grace Passô (“The Day I Met You”).

Exclusive: The trailer for Continent has landed ahead of the world premiere of the horror-drama at the Munich International Film Festival on Thursday. A Brazilian, French, and Argentina coproduction, the movie is written and directed by Davi Pretto.
A car weaves through Brazilian countryside and one of its passengers remarks that it looks like the South of France. “I think it looks sad,” replies the car’s other occupant, Amanda (Olivia Torres). It transpires she is on a journey back to the isolated village in which she grew up. Amanda’s father is dying, and as events unfold, she becomes involved in a strange inheritance linked to a mysterious secret held by the villagers.

Last year, Argentina’s Ventana Sur film and TV market and co-production forum launched its inaugural Proyecta feature project showcase.
Co-organized by Ventana Sur and the San Sebastian Film Festival, Proyecta was established to aid in facilitation of international co-productions between Europe and Latin America.
16 feature film projects will participate this year, four of which come from the Basque co-founder, one from Taller Eave Puentes-Europe Latin America Co-Production Workshop and the final title from Brasil CineMundi. The others were selected by Paulo Roberto de Carvalho, Esperanza Luffiego and Clara Massot for Ventana Sur.
From the 16 projects, nine are first or second features interspersed with established, multi-award-winning filmmakers such as Lucía Puenzo, director of 2007’s Cannes Critics’ Week, Golden Rail, Acid and Regards Jeunes Prize-winner “Xxy,” and who is fresh off Fabula’s Daniela Vega-starred series “The Pack.” Puenzo will be pitching “Los Impactados,” written by her friend Lorena Ventimiglia,...
