In an age where big companies seem intent on going the route of live service and multiplayer only adventures, AA indie studios are paving the way for some truly incredible and hard-hitting single player games, and Elyzio are well and truly following suit. We spoke to Dogan Can Yeginer about the upcoming Pera Coda, how it came to be, how Disco Elysium influenced it, and what we can expect from the innovative and experimental title.

Firstly, thank you so much for your time! For those unaware, would you be so kind as to say who you are and what you do?

I’m Dogan Can Yeginer, CEO and co-founder of Elyzio, and Executive Producer of Pera Coda. Before starting Elyzio, I worked at Google, where I focused on helping grow Türkiye’s gaming ecosystem, supporting everything from small indie teams to larger studios.

Sometimes, a single comic book issue stands out above everything else. It can have an attachment to the series itself, but that doesn’t make it any less amazing on its own. The following ten are the best representation of that.

Some of these titles make the list because they’re deep stories that highlight a character. Others are good beginnings to a comic, a story arc, or a coming out for a hero. Let’s begin with this writer’s favorite of the year.

Deniz Camp’s writing will always show you his thoughts on the world. Assorted Crisis Events No. 3 is the best example of this. The story highlights topics such as immigration, racism, and xenophobia in an interesting way; he uses the theory of alternate realities and people meeting their alternate selves.

Pera Coda is an upcoming isometric narrative mystery adventure developed by Falan. Players fill in the shoes of Deniz, a troubled attorney coming to terms with his past troubles. Solve environmental puzzles, relive Deniz’s past in this new and exciting adventure while tackling themes of life and death.

Set in Istanbul, players experience Deniz’s life through his eyes as they explore Istanbul. The game is described as a mixture of the psychological themes and isometric view of Disco Elysium, and the exploration of The Outer Worlds. This is a passion project developed by people who mean to deliver a human and relatable story.

Here are some of the gameplay features you can expect:

An Adventure About a Man Trapped Between...

From the second you venture into Absolute Martian Manhunter No. 1, you're grabbed by the phenomenal artwork and beautiful colors of Javier Rodriguez (Zatanna: Bring Down the House). Then, the story starts. Writer Deniz Camp (Ultimates) begins with philosophical questions of why people do the things they do. For example, “Why do some people become firefighters, and others arsonists?” That’s on top of the immediate hit of an explosion that should have killed the lead character of this story. All of this nearly sensory overload happens in the first few pages.

Things continue to get better as the issue continues, as our lead character (Agent John Jones) starts to realize that something is wrong with him and how he sees the world. There's colorful smoke in places there shouldn't be, and he knows things about people that he shouldn’t.

Marvel Comics' new Ultimate Universe has been a hit, and this May, Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion will see Ultimates storyteller Deniz Camp, Miles Morales: Spider-Man scribe Cody Ziglar, and rising star artist Jonas Scharf (Ultimate Universe: One Year In) team up for the first Earth-616/Earth-6160 crossover.

Paying off seeds planted by Ultimate Universe architect Jonathan Hickman at the very beginning of the new line, the long-awaited story finds original Ultimate Universe inhabitant Miles Morales swinging over to the new one for an adventure that brings him into contact with the characters and events of the line's five current series.

It's a crossover saga, Ultimate style, that will also lay the groundwork for startling developments on the horizon, including the return of the Maker.

It was difficult picking the five best comic books of the week. For example, Aliens Vs. Avengers No. 2 was phenomenal, adding to the Alien movie lore that fans loved, along with some tragic moments and well-known Marvel Comics characters. There was also Kelly Thompson’s Birds of Prey which continues to be a must-read series. Nevertheless, I had to break it down to the top five.

Let’s start with the pick of the week (another tough selection).

Through the film, Schrader commented on what women want in a man, objectification of men, and the volatile nature of materialism. It’s another great week of new comic books and only five can be at the top. Sadly, issues like Daredevil No. 13, Immortal Thor No. 15, and Plastic Man No More! didn’t make the list. They were good, but the five upcoming comic books absolutely stole the show.
