R.I.P. Diahann Carroll

Hollywood has lost a legend today, October 4th, 2019. Beloved Tony Award winning singer and Oscar nominated actress, Diahann Carroll, passed away from complications related to cancer. Diahann, who was first diagnosed and treated back in 1997 with cancer, and was free of the disease a scant 9 weeks later, sadly had it return this year. Condolences go out to all her family and friends. Diahann's story is a long one and we will not go into it here, but we recommend that you use the link above and read her biography page. She, as we all know, was heavily involved in both movies and television in a career that spanned 7 Decades. There are many memorable moments and roles that we all love dearly. So which one of her performances in these titles was your favorite? P.S. You may want to visit her star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7005 Hollywood Blvd., if you are ever in Southern California. She was honored April 3, 1990 for her Recording Career. Please leave your kind thoughts about Diahann here.

Big Screen Star Machine

Most stars of TV series come and go, some continue onto other television work, while a tiny few shine so bright that they go on to success on the big screen. So few actors make the leap from TV to film successfully that most TV series don't boast the creation of any movie stars but the shows below each contributed two or more talents who made it big on the big screen. Which TV series packed the most (movie-)star power? (Only actors who were not famous film stars before appearing on TV are included.) After voting, feel free to discuss here . See guidelines for inclusion there, as well.

Mid-Season Replacement Drama TV Series

A mid-season replacement TV series is a show that takes the place of another cancelled show due to poor ratings or some other reason between December and May. These shows are often second stringers that didn't make the fall line-up. Networks are hopeful they will catch on, but often their role is to hold on until the roll-out of the new fall line-up. Every once in a while, networks catch lightning in a bottle and these fill-ins become wildly successful, anchoring the network's lineup for years and spawning multiple spin-offs. Which of these select mid-season replacement drama TV series* best filled its role as a fill-in and more? * minimum four plus seasons with December through May premiere Vote in the companion poll: Mid-Season Replacement Comedy TV Series Discuss the topic here.
