Iconic Swords

Andúril, also called the Flame of the West, is the reforged sword from the shards of Narsil. After the War of the Last Alliance, the shards of Narsil were taken to Rivendell. It was the sword of Aragorn II, heir of Isildur.

Sting was an ancient Elvish blade made by weapon-smiths in Gondolin. When Orcs or goblins were within an undetermined radius of it, the blade glowed blue, alerting the wielder and others who could see it to their presence.

Made by the Elven smiths of old, Orcrist had a beautiful scabbard and jewelled hilt. There were runes on the sword which bore its name. At first glance, Gandalf identified the sword as a "good blade." Like the Sting, Orcrist glowed blue whenever Orcs or goblins were near.

Morgul-blades, also called "Morgul-knives", were magical and poisonous daggers that were used by the Ringwraiths during the Third Age. After having tasted flesh, the dagger breaks, leaving a shard of the blade in its victim. The remaining blade soon turns to dust, and the shard works its way through the body to the heart. If the shard of the blade stays in the victim for too long, the victim becomes a wraith

Excalibur is the mythical sword of King Arthur, sometimes attributed with magical powers or associated with the rightful sovereignty of Great Britain. Sometimes Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone are said to be the same weapon, but in most versions they are considered separate. The sword was associated with the Arthurian legend very early; in Welsh, the sword was called Caledfwlch.

Beatrix's sword was the only sword Hattori Hanzō made after his retirement and supposedly the greatest samurai sword ever forged.

The Sword of Gryffindor was a thousand-year-old, goblin-made sword owned by the famed wizard Godric Gryffindor, one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The sword was later used in Albus Dumbledore's and Harry Potter's hunt for Horcruxes, as a tool of destruction against the Horcruxes, as means to make Lord Voldemort mortal again.

The lightsaber, sometimes referred to as a laser sword, was a weapon used by the Jedi and the Sith. Lightsabers consisted of a plasma blade, powered by a kyber crystal and usually emitted from a metallic hilt. It was a weapon that required skill and training, and was greatly enhanced when used in conjunction with the Force. Though also used by the Sith, the lightsaber was synonymous with the Jedi, with some in the galaxy believing only Jedi used lightsabers.

Longclaw is a Valyrian steel sword, in the possession of House Mormont for five centuries. When Lord Jeor Mormont retired from his lordship to take the black and command the Night's Watch, he passed it to his son and heir, Ser Jorah Mormont. When Jorah went into exile after trying to sell some poachers into slavery, he had the sword sent back to his father on the Wall.

Ice was a Valyrian steel greatsword and an heirloom of House Stark. It was used both in war and on ceremonial occasions by the Lord of Winterfell.

Needle is a thin sword wielded by Arya Stark. It was given to her by Jon Snow, who had it made by Mikken, the blacksmith of Winterfell. The sword is well suited to Arya's slight build, which prevents her from fighting in the style of large male Westerosi knights, who employ powerful slashing moves and strong blocks using a heavy sword. Instead, Arya and Needle are much better suited to the "Water Dance" style of fencing popular in Braavos and other Free Cities, which emphasizes speed and agility with a thin, light rapier used in quick thrusting attacks.

The Claymore was a Scottish variant of the English Longsword, slightly smaller in size yet, still a very large two handed sword. Claymores were used extensively during border fights with the English. What makes this sword special however, is how it is used dramatically in Braveheart.

The sword of Troy. Right before the epic battle between Greeks and Trojans, king Priam gives the sword to his son, Paris, saying to him ''My father carried this sword, and his father before him all the way back to the founding of Troy. The history of our people was written with this sword. Carry it with you tomorrow. The spirit of Troy is in that sword. So long as a Trojan carries it our people have a future.''

The famous sword of Blade that helped him kill many enemies.

This sword was the gift of Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe) to Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise) right before the battle begin. It is etched to it the phrase "I belong to the warrior in whom the old ways have joined the new."

The sword of Ibelin. The amazing sword of Godfrey (Liam Neeson) that is passed down to his son, Balian, (Orlando Bloom) for his Holy quest.

The Atlantean Sword is a sword that once belonged to an ancient king who, along with this sword and several servants, was buried in a small tomb. Conan stumbles upon the tomb while he is being chased by a pack of wolves and inside he finds the sword, which he uses to remove his shackles and slay the wolves.

The famous sword of Inigo Montoya, the man who tried to take revenge from Count Rugen, a nobleman with a six-fingered right hand who killed his father.

The Green Destiny is what is commonly known as a Tai Chi Sword, which was a popular sword among Wu Dang warriors. The Green Destiny is by far the most ornate and beautiful sword in film history, it features a carved jade hilt and an engraved blade as well as a golden tassel.

Jet Li’s Nameless carries a simple one handed sword that is typical of the era (229 BC). The double edged straight blade has one feature that makes it stand out however, which is the sharpened hole that runs through the centre of the blade. The simple detraction from a typical design makes the sword seem both unique and exotic, it raises questions about the sword’s origins and purpose.

Connor took the sword of Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, which he had presumably kept since his friend and mentor's death in 1547 (at the hands of the Kurgan).

Riptide is deciphered from the Greek name, Anaklusmos. It is the prized sword of Percy Jackson that is made of Celestial Bronze, a material that is only effective on gods, demigods, Titans, Giants, and monsters. It does not affect mortals, as it just passes through them harmlessly. The sword is a medium length xiphos.
