Opera singer In 1988, he was named Artist of the Year by the Canadian
Music Council. In 1990, he was appointed Canada's first Goodwill
Ambassador to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. In
1992, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
