Photography and directing is a continued amazing journey for Jonathan May, taking him all over the world and exposing him to fascinating places and interesting people.
His passion for the visual arts started in boarding school in Sydney's North West. If Jonathan wasn't playing Rugby or basketball, he would have a camera in his hand, and his high school submission exhibited as part of ArtExpress, which is an annual exhibition featuring a selection of outstanding student artworks developed for the art-making component of the HSC examination in Visual Arts in NSW.
After school Jonathan started working in publishing and was surrounded by imagery and photography on a daily basis. He then transitioned to advertising where he learnt how the clogs turn in agency land but quickly realised he needed more hands on involvement with the craft. So he started studying and assisting in 2006 and shooting on his own in 2009.
In the last 6 years Jonathan has lived and worked in 6 countries in 4 continents...Sydney, Paris, Moscow, Kenya, The Ivory Coast and Los Angeles, working on some incredible projects all over the world, which he certainly does not take for granted.
In his spare time, May is usually surfing, choking sweaty men in a Jiu-Jitsu class or chilling with his family on the northern beaches.
