Fix It & Finish It

I recently moved from an apartment to a house and I was looking for HGTV shows on Netflix to get inspired. I was sick and tired of the same scripted scenario (ignore the SSS) of every house improvement. All the shows are Utopia and I hardly conect with the homeowners because they are simply not middle class. This show is scripted like any other but it is so close to reality.They struggle with cost and have obstacles like in any home project. Nothing looks perfect like in a fairy tale. And Antonio the host/actor/contractor, Trump Supporter btw, that's how he is!!! Have you ever met a born and raised Sicilian ???? This show is not for everyone and he is certainly not everyone's cup of tea but the improvements in the homes are real and the contractors on the show are real, too.

While the host, Antonio Sabato Jr., is well-known to soap-opera fans, he seems more like eye-candy than an expert in home improvement. In the show's intro, he says, "Renovating is what I do." No, Antonio.....acting is what you do, and this show only highlights that. Really, could the t-shirts Antonio is wearing be any tighter? Everyone on the job site is casually dressed, dirty, working hard, and he jumps in to scenes to look like he is working, but it is obviously staged, he never gets dirty, and his dialog is childishly simplistic and uninformed, pointing out obvious details like, "Here is the piece we removed. We cut it. And now this is where the sink goes." Wow....gee....thank you for telling me that, because I didn't understand that confusing scene where they were cutting a big hole in that granite countertop, Antonio. Even his so-called injected "tips" are not eye-opening or ground-breaking home improvement instruction; by the end of the first episode, the fact that he keeps introducing himself with his full name, "Hi. I'm Antonio Sabato Junior" gets really annoying. Yes.....we know who you are already. The show seems designed to be as HGTV-esque as they can, but in reality, it feels more like a cheesy infomercial, meant to mainly advertise contractors and products. While the episodes are geared towards doing something nice for a well-deserving home owner, this show lacks a real connection to the home owners or any semblance of home repair instruction that viewers can take away to apply to their own homes. Overall, the show feels unprofessional, the host is goofy, and as a home-improvement show, it lacks teeth.

Watch episode 17 season 1 ..... if doesn't steal your heart of what people can do for one another...... then I don't want to know you..... It wasn't the best fix and finish but it sure was the most worthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some spaces are nice, but they all look cheap. If these families can afford pools they can afford to do their own repairs. Antonio does not look like a bonafide construction worker, just a pretty boy. Time to canel this show.

The 70's and 80's idea of making a man as manly as possible in the home improvement arena has gone bye a long time ago. This show had some great potential, and I liked the main actor.

But his sun glasses disassociated him from the viewer, and even made him look a bit fake. The show could have been softened up by showing them using the tools, but not making it look so Tim Allen 'Home Improvement', adding a softer touch, adding women, and making the main character less tough looking.

Make the viewer feel more like they can do it too, instead of making it look so hard core... but still showing the same jobs... thereby making the viewer like they are included, instead of being pushed away.

The new generation of the 2010's are growing into the connectivity of all people, including women, and in this show, I felt like I was watching C.H.I.P.S again, which was also a fun show, and which is also now out of style, partly for the same reason... a cop that looks like he's getting off his trusty steed, dawning his douchy sunglasses, giving a creepy smile to the women ... this just isn't the world anymore. Everyone has more to give, and this show is very off putting to watch.

Having that being said, it's a great show, with a good cast, that just needs to be softened a bit.
