A lot of my friends suggested the final season comparing it as the 'Lesbian Version of Game of Thrones'. I wasn't sure what to make of that because that seemed very homophobic or at the very least insulting. No one calls straight shows the straight version of 'such and such'. But I decided to give it a shot. I expected lots of sex, rape and gory fight scenes- you know like Game of Thrones but it doesn't have that at all. I don't know why anyone would compare it to GOT. It does have elements sure but all fantasy mediums share elements. This show is TV-14 and stays true the rating. No sex scenes and no gore. Some people complain there was too much kissing in season 2 but I and a lot of my friends didn't have a problem with it. It was only in one episode. I think anyone who did have a problem with it is slightly homophobic. The story is unoriginal, it's a prophecy story that follows the Hero's Journey construct. But what this show does do differently is add a new community to fulfill that construct. There are only three caucasian's in this show, the rest are People of Color, Black or Biracial. It also has no male lead. The two lead roles are dominated by the actresses who play Fox and Daisy, and those characters are in love with one another. So although it does follow all the tropes, what it does do differently is add a new element that is otherwise not included with the fantasy genre or in most films in mainstream media. That said, there are great things about this show and things that need a bit more work.
The Bad Some of the acting is very poor. The main lead villain, Rath, is one of those actors who debauched the dialogue which in some cases was very questionable. His lines in one episode of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 could have been worked on a bit longer. The actress who plays Merila also sounds very robotic at times but her performance gets so much better by the final season (more on that later). The actor who played Alliel was not convincing to me. He seemed too unsure of himself to be that menacing. His tendency to never look other costars in the eye while also jumbling his lines were very distracting for me. The ADR also didn't match Alliel's mouth at time too most likely due to the actor's inability to get his lines right. In the second and third seasons, Oron was flat with his delivery, almost like the actor was shy to say a lot of his lines or add any type of vocal emphasis. The actress who played Daisy in the second season was also a bit too old to play a senior in high school. The ADR wasn't as accurate in a lot of her scenes, as well. Not her fault but a fault of the overall byproduct. I know the series is rated TV-14 but stab wounds would still pass the rating and it would have been nice to see the ones that were missed in season 3. The actress who played Daisy in seasons 3 and 4, was outshined by her costar who played Fox. Speaking of which there is an actor replacement with the role of Daisy, that bothers me whenever that happens. A lot of hand held shots that are shaky I seasons 2 and 3. I'm not a fan of that type of cinematography. The second season's sound was a bit difficult to pull apart. The first season is not necessary and needed so much work. Don't bother with the first season. Start with season 4, if you like it, chances are you'll like seasons 2 and 3. Some viewers may immediately write the show off due to these things.
The Good The actress who played Fox is the show. She definitely is the stand out actor in the whole thing giving a wonderful range in her performance. Although it would have been nice to see her go further but perhaps if she did, it would outshine the rest of the cast by a mile, throwing off the dynamic. The first actress to play Daisy, the one in season 2, was able to keep up with her and she wasn't outshined but instead an equal partner. I was a little bummed she didn't return. The actress that replaced is not bad and actually seemingly meshes well effortlessly while also looking more of the age requirement to fulfill the role. Her performance also gets better. The actress who plays Merila also blew me away with her emotional range in the final season. It was a beautiful thing to witness her evolution as an actress from season 2 to season 4. The actor who played And was the only male that stood out and actually balanced the star power of the actress played Fox. Both have commanding presences and it was noticeable. Their interaction as their characters was very well executed. The final season is the season to watch as it really brings the production value up. It's a major upgrade and sets itself apart from the seasons prior. The cinematography is much more cinematic. The writing also enhancing by the final season. Season 2 had a much better balance shifting between the two worlds, bringing up tough topics of racism and homophobia, while not shoving it down your throat. It's a nice touch to remind viewers of the realities people face. The final season gets more deeper in the writing with topics like addiction, abortion, rape, miscarriage, death and tragic family dynamics. It also touches the struggles romantic relationships go through without being completely depressing. There are many standout episodes that I applauded for the writing specifically. The VFX are also fair in the series (nothing as bad as Once Upon a Time), in fact there times I didn't realize VFX were used. The sound is great in the final season. The episodes are short, although the final season has more longer runtimes, so you're not sitting down watching something for an hour or bingeing the whole day away. Some people found that due to the shortness of some of the episodes makes the pacing too fast but I disagree. However, due to that, I believe those viewers would benefit from watching season 4, its pacing improves.
All in all this was an impressive contribution to web series.

'Fox' earns its place on the shelf next to the other great love stories the world has ever known. You will need a box of kleenex to get you through the final season.
The show has its hits and misses but when it hits, it does it rather well. I particularly like that the episodes are short (the final season offers much longer run times) so the show gets to the point. It almost gets to the point too fast but all in all, I had to remind myself that this wasn't a big budget production (although I'm sure it cost a pretty penny) and that a lot of story had to be added in its short run times. Due to that, the final season does flow smoother. There are really good takeaways and some horrid performances. The good is Monroe Hayden who holds the whole show. The messages are sweet and insightful. The final season is wonderfully made and almost seems like a different show due to its upgrades. Melanie Tornroth was great but I didn't exactly buy that she was a high schooler. The bad is Steven Acedo who plays Rath. His delivery is so flat to the point where I wasn't even intimidated by him or scared. I really couldn't figure out why Fox couldn't just get rid of him. Jacob Maciel as Alliel was also pretty cringe worthy. He never looked at any of his costars except for Oron in his final scene. He was so unsure of himself, I don't know if it was intentional or just the actor. Overall if you are testing it out, watch the final season. If you don't like that, you won't like the rest of it.
Sometimes you stumble upon shows or movies on IMDb and they look intriguing so you decide to watch. This was one for me. I found this one night as I was going through Monroe Hayden's profile, and good thing I did because I absolutely love it and her! Its an amazing show and keeps you hooked for every single minute, at least from season 2. I didn't watch season 1 and read I didn't need to. I just cannot wait to find out what happens next! Everything in this show is interconnected. You can't miss a single episode. It so fun to watch and the chemistry between Fox and Daisy is so good, its one of the best duos I've ever seen on screen! Its a shame the actress who played Daisy in season 2 just left but I know whoever they get to replace her will be better and I'm excited for that! The actors were really good too and the music was beautiful! I very much recommend this to everyone.
Stop what you're doing and watch this show! It's amazing! I watched it as a whole in one full week during this quarantine.
The love story is so moving! The friendships between the characters is so touching! The writing is top grade! The fight scenes are so great! Season 4 really shines and once you see it, you'll understand why. It's almost perfect. Almost!
I'm convinced that Monroe Hayden was born to write this show and play Fox of Auxdra. She outdid herself with every new season and out shined everyone else. She will always be remembered for this and for good reason.
The rest of the cast, particularly the brotherhood, felt like a legit family and close knit of friends. I don't know what they did off screen to help with their dynamic or if they're just really great actors and can't stand each other real life but without them, Fox wouldn't be as great. They all are so different as characters but mesh so well.
Sylvan, Aleel and Anu were the best villains. They all showed different angles of evil and approached it differently. The actor who played Rath was not that great. I found the character to be interesting but the way the actor delivered his lines sometimes was just cringeworthy. I could hear other actors repeat the same lines and make it so much more impactful in my head.
Yes there is a new Daisy for the last two seasons but she fits in well. Both actresses did wonderfully and I can't help but wonder how each of them would do if given the chance to complete the series in all seasons.
My recommendation is to watch this. Watch this many times. It's beautiful and so epic. Fox and Daisy are names that I now put right up there with Romeo and Juliet, Jack and Rose, Ilsa and Rick, Baby and Johnny and Allie and Noah.
It's not all love and kisses either, there's some real storytelling and amazing fight scenes with great editing and cinematography in season 4. The show is simply magnificent and you won't regret watching it.
When I have a child, I will watch this with them.
