It is not shock value if the shocking things hold meaning and builds character. The game takes place in a post apocalypse and the decisions the characters make are totally sensical given the confines of their world.
The game is better written than 98% of shows and films, and 100% better than any other game out there. Only the best filmmakers like bergman, kieslowski, haneke can write above this level and I doubt this games detractors even know these artists.
The game is relentlessly bleak, but it is purposeful. That being said, I understand how someone wouldn't enjoy this, but bleak plotting isn't automatically bad writing.
I feel like haters just concentrated on what happens to Joel. But the game shows that everything has consequences, even for the characters that everybody adores. If you cannot handle that, you should never watch movies, read books or play games, because it happens in every form of media. People that are loved, suffer or die. That is just life.
I have no other choice but to give this a 10/10. I'm having so much fun and I'm excited to see pt III.
The writing is amazing, the characters engaging, the way violence is depicted is unlike any game I've played, and last but not least the story is memorable. If you were on the fence about this game, give it a shot with an open mind. You might just be like me and absolutely love it.
Now lets talk about the story, many people like, many don't. I understand why some people may not have understood, its not a Happy ending with bittersweet feeling like Part 1, its way more complex.
The pacing, the character switches can be a bit frustrating at times, else its a perfectly written story with everything else perfect. Ellie goes all out in this Part to get what she wants only to realise its not worth it. The maturity which she gains at the end of this is what will carve the path to the next Part (Hopefully there will be a Part 3, probably the final chapter lets see).
I would recommend this game to everyone, they all should witness what Gaming actually is. They will know gaming is way way more than Button smashing. It can have stories better than 99% of the movies.
Ellie will always be our Favourite <3.

- CuriosidadesThe composer for both games, Gustavo Santaolalla, can be seen sat in a chair playing the theme on his banjo, just after you leave Ellie's and pet the dog.
- Erros de gravaçãoGasoline expires in a matter of months. After more than 20 years of untreated gas, the vehicles the characters commandeer wouldn't be drivable.

[last lines]
Ellie: You're such an asshole!
Joel: I'm not trying to...
Ellie: I was supposed to die in that hospital. My life would've fucking mattered. But you took that from me.
[Joel expresses his guilt for saving Ellie]
Joel: If somehow the Lord gave me a second chance at that moment... I would do it all over again.
Ellie: Yeah... I just... I don't think I can ever forgive you for that. But I would like to try.
Joel: I'd like that.
Ellie: Okay. I'll see you around.
Joel: Yep.
