"Thottappan" (Godfather) Malayalam movie
Film adaptation of the short story by Francis Noronha.
The story is of 'Ithakk' and his friend Jonnappan, petty thieves, Jonnappan's disappearance, Ithakk taking care of his friend's family .
The story is happening in the backwater islands of Kochi, the villagers, their simple way of living ... all in a big canvas, to form the presentation.
Even though the story starts with Ithakk on the centre stage, Sara, the God-daughter, takes the lead ... her upbringing, her surroundings, her interactions with the villagers, is the movie.
Vinayakan as Ithakk lived through the character, protective nature of his God daughter, the possessiveness depicted well. Priyamvada, the debutant actress did well in Sara's role. Their relationship told in a raw and vivid manner, even her lover boy Ismail a/s esmu unable to breach the wall.
Shanavas, the director took us through the presentation well, Screenplay by Rafeeque has uncanny similarity with 'Amen'.
Photography reminds us of 'Kumbalangi nights'. Music is enjoyable.
Even though the package is complete, presentation lacked the punch.
7 on 10 for this emotional drama.
Malayalam movies are bold enough to take up unusual themes and present them well.
Vinayakan leaves lasting memoirs, even after the movie.... that character is very strong.
