Naive plot, yet superb directing/acting

1972 Lithuanian classic heroic/action/romantic mini-series (4 parts, about 35 minutes each) tells a story of a famous robber Tadas Blinda, who gained reputation of the "Leveller of the World", yet the real story (that goes back to 19th century) about this man is not so romantic. He was just a robber, eventually killed by the people. At the times (1972) soviet system forced that a movie (or any form of art in general) is meaningful only when it declares ideas of Communist Party. Despite all this compulsory drawn ideas, the series offers really great directing (Balys Bratkauskas) and acting (V.Tomkus, etc.) and action scenes and nature, that all together forms a nice piece of a bit naive, but undoubtedly impressive action/romantic movie.

The better side of Lithuanian cinema

The Lithuanian cinema is weak, we have to agree with that. That mainly because of lack of funding by the government etc.

This about the (one of) national hero - Tadas Blind. As noticed in the previous comment - a Robin Hood of Lithuania. The ideas of that time are depicted in the movie and it has this hoary feel to it (well it should, this is not your recently shot movie, so). Though for foreigners it may seem odd and senseless, it is still a movie to be acquainted with before you start going through the Lithuanian filmography (which is rather puny anyway).

Recommended to hardcore movie buffs or anyone else who's into lithuanian cinema.

Like England has hero - Robin Hood, and all the other countries too. Lithuanian hero is called Tadas Blinda. And this movie about him. Historical drama.
