Loving Friends

I've always admired the work of porn star Sharon Kane, and LOVING FRIENDS showcases her in a lively if pointless exercise. It was made as masturbation fodder, pure and simple, revived on Vol. 62 of Something Weird's Dragon Art Theatre series.

Bleached-blonde (your roots are showing) Kane and two buxom roommates (including Chris Cassidy) live in a suburban home where, in porn parlance, they simply can't get enough. After going 3 on 1 with a pizza delivery boy, there is the most minor of plot devices, as one gets mad at the other two and is rewarded with a present of 4 guys, their penises neatly adorned with ribbons, as a makeup gift from the other 2 girls. Orgy and out. Final image is of the girls apres-sex, munching on....you should have guessed it, pizza.

Of course porn has come full circle: it began with loops, graduated to features, became increasingly sophisticated in what are now considered classics, exhibited side by side with program fluff like LOVING FRIENDS, and now 40 years later it's back to content-missing, wall-to-wall sex.

It's the joie de vivre of Kane and friends, the sheer fun of their (at least in her case) chosen profession that makes LOVING FRIENDS watchable. Since it's a random, assembly-line junker, and not a "classic", I would hold it up as Exhibit A to demonstrate the key difference between porn "acting" and prostitution - Kane and Cassidy are definitely having a good time and not faking it.
